  1. Haudricourt tweeted earlier that upwards of a dozen clubs have contacted the Brewers about Lind. Seattle makes sense, but so do a host of other teams. It's fun to guess, but I agree that I wouldn't get too caught up in thinking about matches with the Mariners (or Orioles) exclusively.
  2. Backup until Tulowitski inevitably misses half the season.
  3. Pompey for Segura might well be worthwhile. Pompey is a premium defender in center field, though his bat is still catching up.
  4. Cardinals are getting a guy with a last name pronounced jerk-o. How meta.
  5. They apparently didn't think he was adding value to the 40-man roster, or at least wasn't adding enough value that couldn't be replaced elsewhere, so why keep him around a few more days if they decided he wasn't in their plans? Pointless for him, and pointless for the club. Teams don't get bonus points for keeping the 40-man roster full as long as possible.
  6. Austin Jackson might make some sense as long as he's willing to take a 1-2 year deal. Maybe catch trade asset lightning in a bottle of he happens to figure it out for 3-4 months.
  7. I'm just a little surprised they canned Strong ahead of Peterson. Unless Peterson has been DFA'd too, and it just hasn't been announced.
  8. I'm guessing on Strong that there was just a change in opinion on him with the new regime. It could have been that Nichols or Melvin or Ash really liked Strong, and that's what kept him protected. Also could be that they still liked him, but feel as though they can improve on the level of talent he brought to the organization in the coming days.
  9. Have to remember that Gallo just turned 22 a few weeks ago. His strikeouts are scary, but so is the fact that he hit 40 HRs as a 19 year old.
  10. The Brewers apparently DFA'd Fields and Strong at some point, as they were claimed by the Dodgers and Marlins, respectively. Fields never took the, erm, field for the Brewers or any affiliate in an official game. The 40-man roster now stands at 35.
  11. Elias was just traded to the Red Sox as part of the Wade Miley deal.
  12. D.J. Peterson would make the most sense, if they think he can fix his swing. Boog Powell might be able to handle CF in the big leagues in the nearer future than Maverick Phillips, plus his name is Boog.
  13. They have this shortstop named Luis Sardinas...
  14. None of Urias, Seager, or de Leon headed to the Reds. Maybe Holmes, though. Which sucks, because I like Grant Holmes. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/reds-trade-aroldis-chapman-dodgers.html
  15. He has no options left, though there's the possibility he could be granted a fourth option year due to the extensive time he's spent on the shelf.
  16. Garin Cecchini was just DFA'd by the Red Sox. Two and a half years younger than Middlebrooks and not that far removed from being a well regarded prospect. Or maybe Boston third base prospects are just overrated in general.

  19. Khris Davis is not replacement level. He's in the 1-2 range of wins above replacement. Could be a 3 WAR player if he has a career year.
  20. When the Cubs traded for Arrieta, they got him because he wasn't pitching well. Bundy, on the other hand, has logged 65 total innings pitched since 2012. Trading for him is an extreme risk, and I would just assume they got a more reliable set of assets back for Lind.
  21. Hader is less than 18 months older than Gatewood. There's not a huge age disparity.
  22. If Lee is coming back, have to think he'd wait for an offer from a contending team. With all due respect to the Brewers, he hasn't worked this hard to get back on the mound, to get back on the mound with a bad team.
  23. Don't quite understand the rationale of putting either Hader or Houser behind Gatewood, but as Breen says, there's a lot of ways to logically sort that group of guys.
  24. I am absolutely opposed to the Brewers trying to get Alvarez, so I'm definitely not an apologist, but the guy had a 787 OPS last year. The average MLB first baseman had a 790 OPS, average DH a 737 (!) OPS. His Braun-at-third-esque fielding abilities completely negated all of that offensive value, but if you take him out of the field, he's at least an average DH. He would have been an improvement for all but 6 AL teams there last year.
  25. The Twins plan on keeping Plouffe. With Plouffe and Park on the roster, there's just no room in Minnesota for Lind unless one of Plouffe/Park/Mauer/Sano are sent back to Milwaukee in the trade. You can probably cross the Twins off of the Lind list.
