  1. $2M would be between the 8th overall and 9th overall pick in terms of slot value. What they end up signing for might be another matter.
  2. Beckham was a SS at Georgia and for most of his short minor league career. I don't know how great he'd be, but he's definitely played a lot there.
  3. And that's why I think that Green may not be on the list. Melvin may not give out much information, and he's sometimes vague, but he rarely misleads directly.
  4. Service time/burning options is not a factor with Green or Farris. If he had been called up today and never sent down, Green would be Brewers' property through 2017. If he were optioned back tomorrow, he would still have options through at least the 2013 season. Same applies to Farris. Not an issue.
  5. ...but that's only because the Indians chose Brantley over Green. Green was 100% on the PTBNL list the Brewers provided to the Indians.
  6. Stating this as fact is incorrect. It would correct to say: many here are speculating that Green is the PTBNL in the KROD deal due to the fact that he wasn't called up to replace Weeks. I don't think Farris being recalled has anything to do with Green other than the Brewers being enamored with Farris, which they always have been.
  7. Offense after Hart, Morgan, Braun and Fielder is going to be brutal a lot of nights. Yuck.
  8. Being a major league prospect in pro ball is about talent + performance. You can be a prospect if talent = 100 and performance = 0, or you can be a prospect if talent = 25 and performance = 75. That said, I'm taking the 100/0 guy over the 25/75* guy 9 times out of 10. *I would argue that while it's possible to be 100/0, it is impossible to be 0/100. That's why you have to take talent over performance.
  9. Tyler Cravy is starting for Helena tonight. I'm not listening, so I don't know if Gagnon is going to piggyback tonight with Cravy, but that might be a safe assumption.
  10. As long as we're wishing Mat Gamel a happy birthday, it's also 36th rounder Mitch Conner's birthday today. Happy 22nd, Mitch.
  11. Stewart's an interesting guy. Defesnively, UZR/150 suggets he's below average, Plus/Minus suggests he's average and fan scouting suggests he's above average. In any case, he'd be an upgrade over Casey in that respect. He strikes out, a lot. And Stewart should never, ever be allowed to face a LHP, so you're probably looking at a platoon if you want to maximize the value out of the position. And he's going to make close to $3M next year if he goes to arbitration again. Would you want to pay him and someone else (McGehee?) to man the position? Also not sure if Colorado would want to unload him now, when his value is so low. On the flip side, he's hitting even worse than McGehee is right now. You'd be taking a risk on the remainder of season upside. Good idea, though.
  12. And most of the players with a higher AAA OPS play their home games in pretty extreme hitter's parks. Nashville has one of the few pitching friendly parks in the Pacific Coast League. IIRC, Greer is actually more pitcher friendly than most International League parks as well.
  13. What do you base this on? Here is the list of Taylor Green's major injuries: He broke the hamate bone in his left wrist in August of 2008. That's it.Beside what ended up being about 3 months of games on the shelf for the hamate thing, he's spent 33 days on the DL in 5 years in the system. If that's injury prone, that term has a much lower threshold than I was giving it credit for. What does "true prospect" mean?
  14. It's Lauryn Hill, with a y. Sorry.
  15. Phenomenal voice, and Back to Black is a wonderful album. If you haven't heard anything off that record beside Rehab, seek it out. Very sad.
  16. I've never seen a run forced in on catcher's interference, at least that I recall.
  17. The AZL Brewers have scored 5 runs in four innings. The runs have been scored by: Hit batter with the bases loadedWalk with the bases loadedSacrifice double play (sacrifice with runner scoring and a second runner out trying to advance after the score) Wild pitchFielding errorThat's a pretty random potpourri, even for rookie ball.
  18. He should have held on to it. Or dropped it. Or just thrown it. He chose option D, which was hilarious.
  19. After I saw that my first thought was, "I hope Doug isn't calling up Detroit and demanding to know how much it'll take to get Betemit."
  20. If Jungmann, Bradley and Lopez were all signed right now, my top ten would be something like: 1. Peralta 2. Bradley 3. Thornburg 4. Jungmann 5. Lopez 6. Scarpetta 7. Schafer 8. Gagnon 9. Green 10. Bucci
  21. LHP Alan Williams and RHP Seth Lintz have been officially added to the Timber Rattlers' roster.
  22. CF Logan Schafer has been promoted to the Nashville Sounds from the Stars. OF Chuckie Caufield has been assigned to Brevard County from Huntsville. He was on the Stars' DL, so I assume he's been activated from that as well.
