  1. Yadiel Rivera tripled in the 8th. Might get another PA in the 9th. Single short of the cycle. Edit: He's due up fourth in the 9th. First Helena batter, Mike Nemeth, popped out to catcher. Edit 2: The second batter, John Dishon, singled. Rivera might have a chance if they can stay out of a double play. Edit 3: Adrian Williams grounds out, Dishon to second. Rivera is up!
  2. Desmond is an interesting buy-low candidate, but I don't know why the Nationals would want to trade him at this point. He has upside defensively and he's not as bad as the .265 wOBA he's put up this year. That said, don't you go after the guy who's been hitting well this year? Desmond may be more of a guy you go after in the offseason, if he is indeed available.
  3. I was pretty impressed with Hall today and he moved up a few notches on my prospect list. Decent velocity on the fastball with sinking movement, ultra-simple delivery. Like I said, the slider definitely had its moments, with sometimes nasty tilt. As long as he continues to pound the bottom of the zone and refine his chanegup, he'll be more than fine on the mound. Just about the only times the ball was hit hard was when he left a pitch up in the zone. I wouldn't worry about the K rate yet, as long as the BB rate stays down. If he adds/gets back to his old velocity while maintaining the sink on his fastball, he'll become a very good prospect very quickly.
  4. Minimum stay on the Temporary Inactive List is three days.
  5. I would have said it wasn't real, except for that description of Eckstein/Molina/Taguchi is not necessarily something the author would want to get saddled with making up.
  6. Hall did a pretty good job of keeping the ball down and his slider had some great break to it at times. His changeup was inconsistent, but not bad. FB was 90-91 MPH, touching 92.
  7. Hall just lost the no-hitter with two outs in the 7th. And then the shutout a batter later.
  8. I'm not even going to spoil anything. Just read it. Pure class.
  9. So was Brandon Wood in 2007. And Greg Miller in 2004. Being a great prospect 9 years ago has little bearing on his prospects now. I can't quite stretch my interpretation of the word "adequate" that far. He's probably a little worse than McGehee, who is not good. Why? Is this one of those unwritten rules?
  10. I've seen it mentioned a few times now here and there that we can't call up Green because we're in a pennant race. Would someone care to explain this to me? The worst thing that could happen is he'd hit like McGehee until the end of the month (with better defense) and we'd still have a chance to go out and get a guy. Do others know something I don't about his character? From what I know, the last words I would use to describe him are "wilting lily."
  11. It's not that Wilson is low-key. Not to sound crass, but... I just don't care about him. As of this point, I know I won't remember him in a few years.
  12. I dislike watching Betancourt, but I'm going to take this is a slightly different direction. When my wife and I went to see the Brewers at Target Field a few weekends ago, Josh Wilson came up and she asked who he was. After talking about him for 30 seconds, I realized that he elicited the least emotion from me of any Brewers player I can remember. It's not that I don't enjoy watching him play, but I don't like watching him play, either. He makes me totally nonplussed. At least Yuni riles me up.
  13. Taylor Green is not in tonight's lineup for the Sounds.
  14. C Patrick Arlis has been activated from the 7-day DL in Nashville.
  15. I love Khris Davis as much as anyone and want to see him promoted, but he's not a RF. Doesn't have the arm. Hasn't even played there in the minors. He's limited to LF and, potentially, 1B.
  16. Betemit is a pretty brutal defender at third. I'm doubting he's better at SS, where he's never played as many as 100 innings in a year, and not at all since 2008. He'd probably outhit McGehee the rest of the way, but with Green in AAA backing up third and no one backing up SS, I don't think it would be the wisest use of the Brewers' very limited trading chips to trade for Betemit right now. Get a SS first. Unless they got Betemit for free/almost free. Then, why not?
  17. That's probably because McClendon is going to the Mets.
  18. I wouldn't say that's true yet. Rivera is too inconsistent on the routine ground ball, a young player problem, and his bat is years away from being at even Betancourt's level.
  19. Rivera made another pretty impressive play with his arm tonight, winging a throw on the bag at second to first (that he caught barehanded from 2B Gant Elmore) on a double play. Between his arm and his range, he should be a plus defender at the MLB level at some point in the future. Bat? I dunno.
  20. It looks to me like Cravy doesn't hide the ball very well, which is why he can get hit hard. Agreed, really good raw stuff though.
  21. Cravy and Gagnon have combined to strike out 17 against 1 walk through 7 innings against Idaho Falls.
  22. Just as a reminder, here's an interview I did with Nelson the other day.
