  1. He pitched a bunch before he went to Helena for the start of short season ball. I'd be surprised to see him get much over 110-120, but you can't be sure about guys in their first year of full season.
  2. McGehee would also add to his value by *not* playing defense. OTOH, I doubt the Brewers would get a whole lot for Casey right now, and he probably would be upset if he couldn't play in the field where I think he thinks he's good.
  3. McGehee's 783 OPS is superior to the production the following 8(!) AL teams have gotten out of their DH spot: -Yankees: .777 -Indians: .761 -White Sox: .706 -A's: .703 -Rays: .695 -Blue Jays: .664 -Angels: .611 -Mariners: .541 Which is not to say he's better than all their DH's, but he'd be a big to decent upgrade for most of those teams. Edit: I should add... the average OPS of a DH in the AL is .749. Semantically speaking, I think it would safe to say that McGehee would be a "decent" DH.
  4. And if John Axford turns in a fringe Hall of Fame career too, that would be wonderful. The odds of Axford, who has already had a major arm injury, not "falling apart" until age 37 or 38 or 40 or 42 seem pretty long.
  5. If we can get great value for Axford, sure, you trade him. But who is going to give us great value for a dude with 14 career saves and 37.2 big league innings?
  6. Good to see Watten's GO/AO rate up to 2.40 after the 10 groundouts today. His peripherals look bad, but once he starts getting some better defenses behind him, he'll start turning heads. On my drive home today, I thought to myself, "I haven't seen Bramhall's name in a box score recently." Sure enough tonight... Now I just realized that we haven't seen Brae Wright's name pop up yet. He was in spring training box scores after undergoing Tommy John surgery early last year. By this point, I think it's safe to assume he's had some sort of setback.
  7. Travers' career was basically over by the time he was 28. That's why we don't do that anymore.
  8. Brewer quit baseball 2 months ago, that's the primary reason he's not on the list. He was in the top 10 of the Power 50 a number of times in late '07-early '08, and was still on the list in August of last year. If Arnett is still struggling 3 and 4 years into his pro career, he certainly won't be as high as he is now. As it is, he signed 13 months ago and has 107 innings of pro experience. Not a great 107 innings to be sure, but the stuff is still basically there.
  9. The nickname thing is ridiculous. I only vote for real names. And how is Seth Schwindenhammer a 15 seed?
  10. Could be he wants to be a free agent after next season. I think the problem with holding on to Hart "for the long haul" is that, even if he truly has turned things around and keeps up this torrid pace for the next year and a half, there's no way the Brewers are going to be able to resign him. It's not like Hart and the Brewers have had a lot of success coming to terms while he's been under team control, so how would it be any easier once he became a free agent?
  11. I think you're understating this a little, X. Freeman is logging an 828 OPS in AAA as a 20 year old. Heyward he's not, but he's not far off. I don't think the Braves are looking for a long-term solution at first.
  12. I bet Dexter Bobo felt pretty awesome, relieving Hawkins in the middle of an inning. Like you said before, Bramhall's recovery is pretty amazing. I really like him, and getting him back this early is a treat.
  13. Yah, sorry... I should have added Alex Colome in there too. I think we're going to be unpleasently surprised at what we get for Prince. If Corey Hart is worth Wade Davis+ right now, Prince isn't worth a whole lot more.
  14. Is Scott Krieger the second coming of Brendan Katin? He has a .266 ISO in the freakin' FSL. Watten's GB% has taken a big jump since moving to relief, though I hope he's given the chance to start again.
  15. Hellickson, Davis and Moore for Fielder, Bush and half of Prince's remaining 2010 salary. Do it up.
  16. Import dragonflies.
  17. I have that same reaction every time Juan Sanchez is demoted.
  18. Davis throws a low 90's sinker and a plus curveball. The presence of the sinker, for whatever reason, has never really translated into a good GB%. He also throws a change and slider, neither of which at last check were big-league average pitches. According to BA, he has the upside of a a #2 if he can get a consistent third pitch. Knowing the Brewers, they would probably try to get him to throw the change and maybe abandon the slider. I'd rather have Minor, I think, but then I think that if the Braves want to trade a pitching prospect, there's probably something wrong with him. In any case, unless Hart gets injured, sure looks like he's gone by the end of the month.
  19. The Brewers are probably going to be with 5 games of 75 wins, and if they are, Melvin will have no problem keeping his job. The closer the team is to 70 wins, however, the larger the odds of Macha losing his job. The only way Melvin gets canned is if the Brewers win under 25 games the rest of the way, or if he pees in Attanasio's soup and that.
  20. Gomez is probably not the best CF ever (I don't think Al was saying that anyway), and probably not even the best CF of the last 20 years. But I would like to see a list of the "hundreds" of CFs that are definitely better than him.
  21. Milb.com ads are taking over box scores on Safari for the iPhone. Lame. I blame Steve Jobs and his faulty signal strength algorithms.
  22. Yes, Farris is still rehabbing. He was in a game for the AZL Brewers a few weeks ago, but was pulled after one AB and hasn't been back since.
  23. I'd bet anyone part of Cliff Lee's next contract will be a no-trade clause. Either that, or a clause that requires him to be traded bi-annually.
  24. Scarpetta will be awarded a fourth option year. He doesn't have to be up for good until 2013.
