  1. I'm intrigued by John Dishon - athletic, fast, probably some more power down the road, walks at a very good rate. OTOH, he strikes out more than a third of the time and hasn't played an inning of CF, even since Reggie Keen went down. Don't know what to think yet. I've been impressed with Miller's command, too.
  2. Nashville third baseman Ray Olmedo committed an error in tonight's game. Maybe it's the position, not the player.
  3. Tom Krasovic tweet. I didn't know the Cardinals were looking to move Ludwick, but Westbrook could be one of those guys who flourishes under Duncan. If previous deals are any indication, the Indians will receive crappy prospects and have to give everyone else money.
  4. That article was interesting, though most of it was indeed sort of "duh" information that the Brewers haven't really uncovered. I think the point, though, is that the Brewers are really set on becoming more process oriented instead of going through each personnel decision on a subjective/pragmatic basis. That's a good thing. I found the part about the recently-drafted pitcher getting biomechanical analysis done before he threw his first pitch for the team really interesting - I have to believe Milwaukee is one of the few teams that is doing that, and that's something to be excited about. Now if they just start doing MRIs on everybody. And Adam McCalvy, if you're reading this, Joel Pierce hasn't signed yet. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Austin Kearns gets pinstripes too, according to Ken Rosenthal. No word on what Cleveland got back, though it is possibly a PTBNL. As for the Berkman haul, the Astros got pitcher Mark Melancon and infielder Jimmy Paredes. Melancon was the Yanks' 15th rated prospect going in to the season. Paredes was not ranked by BA. For their trouble, the Astros are also paying the Yankees $4 mil of the $7.1 mil remaining owed to Berkman.
  6. I think that if we trade Prince to the White Sox, we definitely need to ask for a deal centered around Scott Linebrink. That would only be fitting.
  7. ...according to this here tweeter from Joel Sherman of the NY Post. No word yet who the Astros will get back, though it can't be too inspiring, if the other deadline deals (sans the Capps trade) are any indication.
  8. Who cares? Twins fans, probably. If Mauer blows out his knee and isn't able to play catcher again regularly, you have to give yourself a fighting chance at catcher for the next few years. I don't think Butera has that fighting chance.
  9. I live in Minnesota and am married into a family of Twins fans, and after discussing this, we came to the consensus that this is stupid. You can't find a 3.50 ERA guy for less than Wilson Ramos? If Joe Mauer tears his ACL tomorrow, Drew Butera is not going to be the answer to a playoff run. The Twins still had at least a year to give up on Ramos.
  10. I love twitter. According to this Jon nee Paul Heyman tweeter: If Hudson/Viciedo is too much for Dunn, I guess Kenny Williams really isn't crazy enough to trade for Prince.
  11. The university or the pitcher?
  12. Komatsu profiles more as a corner guy, but he has decent speed and probably a good enough arm to hack it in center. Like Gindl, it might just be a matter of getting him enough reps there to get comfortable with it. Gindl and Komatsu starting in center field for their respective teams is not something I would have predicted in March, but it's a small silver lining to the Schafer and Davis injuries.
  13. I'm not sure what sort of value the Brewers would get for Villanueva at this very moment. Maybe an A-ball version of Villanueva. Hope they look at trading away Coffey and Riske, though. There are still some more guys in AAA who the Brewers should look at to keep their bullpen cheap (McClendon, Kintzler, Lofgren, Johnson).
  14. Ken Rosenthal tweeteth: More dissimilar information on Hoffman's no trade clause. Good.
  15. Since this appears to be a done deal, let's talk about in the major league forum thread.
  16. Dumping Wolf's contract off on someone seems like a great idea, but the only team who is taking on Wolf's salary next season is the Brewers. Even the richest teams have budgets, and Wolf's production makes him fit into none of them.
  17. I think Milwaukee's best bet to get good value for Fielder would be for Detroit (or Minnesota, I guess) to trade for Adam Dunn, which could make Kenny Williams get nervous, go crazy and overspend for Fielder. We could also sweeten the pot a little for Texas by sending Counsell along with Fielder, or sweeten the pot a lot by sending McGehee, though trading McGehee and Fielder in the same deal seems highly unlikely. Edit: Looks like the Rangers may be closing in on a deal for Jorge Cantu, which probably closes the door on a Fielder deal. Oh well.
  18. "Breakfasts come and go, Rene. Now Hartford, the Whale? They only beat Vancouver once or twice in a lifetime."
  19. At which point, we don't trade Prince or Hart to that team. Wolf's value has almost nowhere left to go but up. Not that anyone would trade anything of value for him right now, but I'm guessing that we might be able to get more for him at this point next year, even if only because his contract will have one less year on it.
  20. Again, if we're paying Fielder's salary while he plays in Texas, we better get a huge return back from the Rangers, or I don't see the point in doing it. I'd ask for Holland, Perez, Davis and a nugget.
  21. One pitches, the other untucks. C'mon guys!
  22. I have a very hard time believing that Texas is in a financial position to take on Fielder's contract, but if the Brewers pick up any of Fielder's tab this year they should be able to get some pretty sweet arms back from the Rangers.
