  1. Not being in the lineup everyday is more of a function of the pecking order of the position. A 1.035 OPS is beyond fantastic for a backup catcher, especially considering he hasn't been in the lineup every day.
  2. A friend of mine is convinced that the MiB's name will turn out to be Aaron.
  3. It's entirely possible that Milwaukee could get better value out of Fielder by trading him for position prospects. I don't think Melvin (or whichever GM ends up trading Fielder) can go into trade negotiations with starting pitcher tunnel vision. I don't know of too many clubs that will give up 4-6 years of a high-end young starting pitcher and that also only need Fielder to perform for them for a season and a half. If they can land a young starting that can help right now, I mean, great, but I don't know who that person is.
  4. Ackley can't be traded until August 17th.* That's when he signed last year. That rumor was made up. Just for fun, though... Fister's may or may not be anything and at this point the only value Kotchman would have is making the defense better, but if we're offered Saunders in the deal, it's something Melvin should explore. He's amongst the top 30 prospects in the game. I don't know how much higher up that prospect list we're going to get in a return for Fielder. Saunders also bats lefty, which would be nice, and he could allow us to move Hart if he's still hot. Around Saunders at the least I'd want Michael Pineda or Steven Hensley, plus another top 30 pitching prospect, and Casey Kotchman sans his salary. *Unless he's a PTBNL, but I think it's doubtful.
  5. Yah, FWIW, as long as you use 500 HR as a threshold for serious HoF consideration, according to Bill James' favorite toy calculation, Howard has a 60% chance to hit 500 or more jacks. Fielder clocks in with 60% odds as well.
  6. It's already being discussed in this thread.
  7. Jeff Suppan has one of the best walk ratios on the team. That's how well we're doing.
  8. I immediately blame Pierce Brosnan for any art theft.
  9. Manny got squeezed by the umpire disproportionately to the Reds' starter, especially early on. He looked really good for a few innings and then his breaking ball command started to waiver, which is understandable for a guy who hadn't thrown more than 49 pitches in a game all year.
  10. Right, it's sometime in the next few weeks. It changes a little every year.
  11. The Brewer should wait until he's past danger of becoming a Super 2 player. That'll be in a few weeks.
  12. That's not true. He bought the team for about $223 mil and now according to Forbes it is worth $351 mil.
  13. Hoffman seems like a pretty stand-up guy. I truly hope that, after reflecting on his performance so far this season, if he thinks he is no longer effective as a major league pitcher, he just walks away. He seems like the kind of person that would do that. On the other hand, he's a professional athlete and thereby ultra-competitive, so he may think he can still fix things and I guess you never know, he may. Either way, I might turn off the TV the next time he steps on the mound.
  14. After this afternoon's game... now I'm a little demoralized.
  15. Estrada's changeup is nice, especially how it rolls off the table at the end. Good to see him hit 92, too.
  16. A couple of strikes to Kottaras and Parra were further off the plate than a few of Parra's non-strikes. Ridiculous.
  17. Homer Bailey bears an uncanny resemblance to Christian Bale.
  18. Haudricourt's twitter confirms Edmonds to the DL.
  19. He had a bad 2009. Other than that, when healthy, he's been a good pitcher. I'm not sure there's any great chasm between where he is now and where he needs to be to be a solid #3/#4 type pitcher. I would prefer to allow him to try to traverse that thin chasm here, as opposed to sending him off someplace else to do it. Anyway, even if you consider Parra a liability, as long as we're playing sub-.500 ball, he's not amongst our top liabilities. Edit: What if he goes out and dominates his next two-three starts? Do you still bump him back to the pen when Davis is ready to return?
  20. I think that is trading a lefty who throws 95 at a low value point.
  21. I should clarify what I meant... as Lawrie gets bigger (and he will put on more weight), he'll lose some of the agility and stuff of what makes him merely an adequate defender right now. Gamel has more wiry body and will never be as thick in the lower half of his body. Over the long term, I think he's more suited to a position that requires mobility. My guess is that Lawrie is about as likely to stay at second as Braun was ever likely to stay at third and if you stick Lawrie in an outfield corner opposite Braun, you're going to have two pretty bad defensive corner outfielders. I like Gamel's defensive instincts a lot more, and I think he could become an asset in the corner outfield. However, as someone mentioned, Gamel could be a huge upgrade defensively over McGehee so I hope the Brewers see the light on that and keep Gamel at third. Then the question becomes, would you rather have McGehee or Lawrie in the outfield? Eh...
  22. I think Lawrie ends up at first base, honestly. Gamel is more athletic, so if they are in the same lineup I'd assume have Gamel in LF or RF.
