  1. Scott Rolen. We could/should have gone after Tad Iguchi. Blalock/Dillon. Morgan Ensberg. Should have Teahen. Etc. It's really your choice. What about that hitch in his swing? He still has the hitch, though it's less pronounced. Ask colbyjack if you are interested, "katuluu".
  2. Perhaps Ryan could play RF. He has a good arm, so it is possible, though only if we trade Billy Hall. But we might as well stick him at catcher if we relegate him back to third.
  3. You conviced me. If you have seen any of Braun's defensive metrics, you would be convinced. Not to mention watching him play third base was heartbreaking. Who said he wasn't going to be a 3B when he was drafted? Me! Me!
  4. Yes, anyone that can play third base and has an OBP in the .340-.350 range.
  5. I would argue Ryan can't get through a whole inning at third without some luck.
  6. Ryan Braun was the worst defensive third baseman in 100 years? Edit: Excuse me... ~100 years.
  7. The fact that Ryan Braun can hit does not negate the fact that he can not currently field well at third base. It also does not negate the fact we can not currently afford an abominable third baseman given our present defensive structure. I'm sure Ryan will hit equally as well as a LF or RF, even though his ego may be hurt that he's not playing a position he can't handle.
  8. I believe that's part of fielding. Doesn't do much for a guy to catch the ball and stick it in his mouth, yah?
  9. We need a third baseman, not a left fielder. We have a third baseman who was just Rookie of the Year. Who can't field. Even in Georgia they know this.
  10. We need a third baseman, not a left fielder.
  11. That doesn't mean it's a good, or even palatable, idea.
  12. Ryan Braun is a terrible third baseman. If he's not replaced, we're in trouble.
  13. Can he play 3B regularly? No?
  14. That is textbook blasphemy. The big climax was that... the parts on the island were the flashback! OMG! Imagine how awesome it would have been if Memento had been the other way around, too! I didn't sniff this out for sure right away, although a few people can confirm that I remarked at the beginning of the finale that it was odd they were starting the episode with a scene not on the island, and that Jack looked odd too. The first season was awesome, the second season was a little underrated by most I think, but the third season was trash from about 3 episodes in until 3 episodes from the end. Let's have these two random castaways die! Awesome! Claire in a mostly-pointless flashback! Great! Telling us when Charlie would die! Superb! Hurley and his van... Why not?! Losing 7 million by midseason? Priceless! What's the date of the next new episode? Jamuary 31st. The season was supposed to be 16 episodes, however the writer's strike meant they were only able to get 8 episodes in the can. They'll be aired all in a row from 1/31-3/20. If the writers's strike comes to a halt, we might get the other 8 planned episodes as well.
  15. The ending was lame.
  16. Add another convert to the Dark Side! You know, I hadn't truly considered Dillon to be an option at third, mostly because I have become obsessed with getting Scott Rolen in there. But the more I think about it, the less I mind it. Anyone who can field a ball in his zone is an instant improvement over Braun, and the projections for Dillon have me amped that he wouldn't be terrible. Plus, I like his swing. Not over the top, not hitchy, just solid, line-drivey. You've converted me assuming we can't get Rolen and are not smart enough to have a Blalock/Cirillo platoon. Viva Joe-Dilla!
  17. Any scenario that ends up with "Ryan Braun at third base" is not an acceptable scenario. It's been talked about to death on here, but Braun's defensive limitations (I hesitate to even call them limitations, that would make it seem like some defensive talent there was being limited) keep him from being as valuable as he could to the Brewers. And Gwynn is a terrible hitter, so... except for Gwynn starting in LF and Braun at third, this would be the worst case option for the Brewers.
  18. I give up for nothing. I now know my honeymoon is going to involve a trip to California and a visit to The French Laundry, a restaurant you more or less have to visit if you live in the U.S.
  19. The Brewers are committed, at least for now, to Brewer at SS. There are some comparisons to be made between him and a young Bill Hall. If anyone supplants Hardy in the next few years, it'll be Escobar, who will immediately become a gold glove candidate when he starts in the bigs. Hardy could be a good defensive 3B, but his value there would become predicated on his offense. It may not be an issue anyway, given he's already entering arby. I could see him being traded two offseasons from now, with Escobar slipping in there.
  20. The fun thing about tequila is...
  21. And it wasn't just terrible because of what we gave up. I can name numerous people on the site, including myself and Greg, who saw Linebrink's declining numbers and saw that we were getting at best a nominal arm for the pen. I would have gladly traded those guys for 25 innings of Joe Nathan or whatever, but Scott Linebrink? Terrible. Heck, Thatcher himself might have come close to out-producing Linebrink down the stretch. This trade was maddening the day it happened, and it all the more maddening months later. Quite easily the worst trade of Melvin's tenure. He was clearly reaching, and the Brewers will be paying the price. Hopefully those two picks amount to something.
  22. The flip side to this is that improvement by Gallardo (just by progression) and Villanueva (he walked a lot early in the season... remember when we were nervous about him in April?), as well as a healthy season by Sheets (if it ever happens) would improve 3/5 of the starting innings. I also have to think one or two of Gagne/Torres/Mota will improve, and Riske keeps outperforming the more detailed stats (he has a lot of weird peripherals year after year, but it works).
  23. It's three months later, and I'm still angry about this. Fiddlesticks.
  24. I completely agree. It's not the worst thing that could happen if your child doesn't get a video game system for Christmas. Buy them some books. Plus, is this really about you and your $250 line in the sand principles, or making your child happy?
  25. Wait... people (companies) who buy things (inputs) and sell them (outputs) for a profit (net gain) are what is wrong with the system (capitalism!)? See, I would say the reason there is a shortage is that Nintendo has not made enough.
