There was more a few posts above. -
AZL Brewers 7, AZL Dodgers 6 AZL Brewers Boxscore The Brewers managed to just keep ahead of the Dodgers and pulled out a 7-6 win, thanks in large part to two Tyrone Taylor home runs. They were his 3rd and 4th home runs on his rehab assignment, and he's slashing .435/.500/1.000 down in Arizona. He seemed close to returning before, but was shut down for more than a week and kept going on his rehab in Maryvale instead of hopping back up to the Biloxi roster. Hope to see him back in a Shuckers uniform soon. Keston Hiura hit his third pro home run, and extended his hitting streak to 10 games to open his career. Kenny Corey and Robert Henry both chipped in with two hits. Corey had a double, as did Julian Jarrard. 7th round pick Bowden Francis made his first pro start. He allowed 2 runs in 2 1/3 innings. NDFA righties Kody Rock and Cameron Hanes both made pro debuts. AZL Brewers Game Log Home runs: AZL Brewers Top of the 5th Tyrone Taylor homers (4) on a line drive to left field. Jesus Lujano called out on strikes. Keston Hiura homers (3) on a fly ball to right field. Pat McInerney strikes out swinging. Nick Egnatuk flies out to right fielder Felix Osorio.

That gives the Sky Sox 4 catchers and 14 pitchers on their 25 man roster, if I'm counting right. -
It is overstating it to say that Hiura is just adequate for second. He is at least an average defender there. He's not a bottom tier athlete attempting to hack it in the field.

AZL Padres #2 7, AZL Brewers 3 AZL Brewers Boxscore Thirteen more baserunners for the Baby Brewers, but some late pitching miscues brought the club to their third loss in eleven games. Thursday night marked the first time all season that no member of the starting lineup achieved a multi-hit game. Seven different players had one hit, including a career-first home run from 24 year-old NDFA Julian Jarrard, and a double from 39th round pick Robert Henry. Jarrard drove in a run via sacrifice fly as well. The team drew six walks, including two from 38th rounder Robie Rojas (who also had a single). Joaquin De La Cruz made the start and pitched five solid innings of one-run ball. As is the usual for him, he got six outs via ground ball and none in the air. NDFA righty Kadon Simmons made his pro debut and surrendered two runs in his inning of work. AZL Brewers Game Log Keston Hiura extends his career-opening hitting streak to nine games: AZL Brewers Bottom of the 3rd Tyrone Taylor grounds out, shortstop Gabriel Arias to first baseman Justin Paulsen. Jesus Lujano singles on a ground ball to second baseman Kelvin Alarcon. Keston Hiura singles on a sharp line drive to center fielder Mason House. Jesus Lujano to 3rd. Keston Hiura to 2nd on the throw. Julian Jarrard out on a sacrifice fly to right fielder Tirso Ornelas. Jesus Lujano scores. Keston Hiura to 3rd. Robie Rojas lines out to shortstop Gabriel Arias.

That's fine - they might. I actually think it is at least in the neighborhood of a reasonable offer. Depends on how you view Clark and Dubon, I guess. But I do agree with the sentiment that this is not something the Brewers should be doing, at least not right now. I don't know that Gray moves the needle high enough for the cost. That's a lot to pay if it brings the Brewers from 82 wins to 84 wins (which might be generous).

BP Midseason Top 50 - Brinson #10, Diaz #38
And That replied to Greenleaf1's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
The Carolina League overall is much more moderate than the FSL in terms of offense, but the park in Zebulon is a pretty extreme pitcher's park. Not to the extent of the Manatees' old park, but the Mudcats' stadium has been in the lowest quartile of run environments in the minor leagues. One of the numerous reasons you can't just look at OPS. -
AZL Brewers 6, AZL White Sox 3 AZL Brewers Boxscore Another day, another 15 hits, another win for the Baby Brewers. Those 15 hits brought their team total to a league-best 120 through 10 games. Their 4 walks give them 55 on the year, good enough for third best. And their 2 home runs tied them for a league leading 10 on the season. The two home runs belonged to Keston Hiura (his 2nd), and Kyle Beam (his career 1st). Hiura's bat was otherwise quiet, though that homer did extend his career-opening hit streak to 8 games. Jesus Lujano was the offensive star of the day, netting three hits, a walk, and two stolen bases. The 18 year old Venezuelan center fielder now has more career walks (37) than strikeouts (36) through 70 career games. Nick Egnatuk, Julian Jarrard, and Julio Mendez all added two hits as well. Jarrard had a double. As Jim mentioned above, Tyrone Taylor saw his first game action since June 28th, as he his apparently still recuperating from his hamstring injury suffered this spring. He was pulled after 3 PAs (1-2, BB). Young Puerto Rican lefty Wilfred Salaman netted his seventh pickoff of the season in an otherwise so-so outing. He has a five game pickoff streak, which is the first such streak I can recall for any player. AZL Brewers Game Log Pickoff #7: AZL White Sox Bottom of the 4th Gavin Sheets singles on a line drive to left fielder Jesus Lujano. With Michael Staudinger batting, Wilfred Salaman picks off Gavin Sheets at 1st on throw to Moises Perez. Michael Staudinger flies out to left fielder Jesus Lujano. Jose Colina grounds out, third baseman Nick Egnatuk to first baseman Moises Perez.

Yep, they have about $522k left to spend, which does not count whatever Ward signed for. If Ward signed for $647k, they are tapped out. -

AZL Indians 13, AZL Brewers 12 AZL Brewers Boxscore The Baby Brewers built an early 5-1 lead, found themselves down 12-5 after 6 innings, and then couldn't quite climb all the way back as they lose for just the second time in nine games. The offense was paced by Kenny Corey, Julian Jarrard, and Moises Perez, each of whom had three hits. All three of Corey's hits were doubles, and one of Jarrard's was as well. Pat McInerney hit his 3rd home run of the year, which tied him for the league lead. Drake Owenby made his third start for the club and made it through 2 1/3 innings before being pulled presumably for hitting a pitch limit. He's not officially rehabbing, but that would seem to be what he's doing. AZL games do not track pitch count, so it's a little difficult to know how far along said pitch count is. Young Michael Gonzalez took the brunt of the damage, surrendering 8 runs in 2/3 of an inning. AZL Brewers Game Log Things go south: AZL Indians Bottom of the 6th Defensive Substitution: Alexandre Guenette replaces catcher Johan Mojica, batting 7th, playing catcher. Pitching Change: Michael Gonzalez replaces Branden Nunn. Felix Fernandez singles on a fly ball to right fielder Pat McInerney. Michael Cooper walks. Felix Fernandez to 2nd. Jose Fermin out on a sacrifice bunt, catcher Alexandre Guenette to first baseman Moises Perez. Felix Fernandez to 3rd. Michael Cooper to 2nd. Wilbis Santiago out on a sacrifice fly to left fielder Kenny Corey. Felix Fernandez scores. Quentin Holmes doubles (2) on a ground ball to left fielder Kenny Corey. Michael Cooper scores. Tyler Freeman doubles (1) on a ground ball to left fielder Kenny Corey. Quentin Holmes scores. Tre Gantt walks. Mitch Reeves doubles (1) on a fly ball to left fielder Kenny Corey. Tyler Freeman scores. Tre Gantt scores. Ronny Dominguez doubles (2) on a fly ball to left fielder Kenny Corey. Mitch Reeves scores. Felix Fernandez homers (2) on a fly ball to left field. Ronny Dominguez scores. Pitching Change: Jake Smith replaces Michael Gonzalez. Michael Cooper flies out to left fielder Kenny Corey.

The Rattlers' starting pitcher tonight is... Josh Pennington. The Rattlers' starting shortstop tonight is... Devin Hairston. So that's new.

Moises Perez was the mystery 1B today, not Carlos Luna after all. Moises was 0-3 w/3 Ks, so maybe he would have just assumed Luna got the credit.

Brewers Battle Back But Have Streak Snapped Grand Slam by Gomez not enough to push Brewers over the top as they fall 6-5 to Missoula By Helena Brewers (Photo: Helena Brewers) Helena Boxscore Another day, another Jose Gomez grand slam, another weird error allowing a Helena run to score, but unfortunately that wasn't enough and the winning streak is over at 6. The offense drew five walks, but scattered just three other hits besides the big fly. I sang the praises of Michael Petersen last time out, but he was pulled after two innings/33 pitches in this game, presumably for allowing five runs in two innings (knock on wood, no injury). Alec Bettinger and Brandon Presley followed that up with five innings of scoreless ball, but another Brandon (Texiera) gave up a home run in the eighth for what would be the deciding run. Helena challenged late, but couldn't tie the game - see below. Helena Game Log Runner on third, no outs, couldn't tie the game: Helena Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Abraham Almonte replaces Nestor Ramirez. Franly Mallen singles on a sharp line drive to left fielder Ernie De La Trinidad. With Yerald Martinez batting, missed catch error by Kyle Smith on the pickoff attempt, Franly Mallen to 3rd. Yerald Martinez strikes out swinging, catcher Dominic Miroglio to first baseman Kyle Smith. Antonio Pinero called out on strikes. Dallas Carroll pops out sharply to first baseman Kyle Smith in foul territory.

Snappers Erase Early Wisconsin Lead; Beat Rattlers 4-2 Timber Rattlers miss chance for third straight win By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Photo: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers) Wisconsin Boxscore The Rattlers struck early, with a Wes Wilson two-run homer putting them ahead 2-0 after the first half inning, but they were unable to score the rest of the way, and the pitching staff gave up 4 runs over the first 4 innings. Joantgel Segovia and Tucker Neuhaus both had a double. Wisconsin starter Victor Diaz was responsible for all four runs allowed, dropped to 0-3 on the season, and saw his ERA balloon to 6.60. Daniel Brown and Colton Cross held the Snappers at bay for the final 4 2/3 innings. I haven't chimed in much on Daniel Brown yet this year. He's been handed an interesting role on the team, not quite a piggyback starter, but often responsible for multiple innings. He's clearly a relief prospect, though I do think it's a good idea to give him as much work against RHB as possible. He hasn't faired extremely well against them, but at least you know how he looks against them. He's been good, if not dominant against LHB. Wisconsin Game Log Promising start: Wisconsin Top of the 1st Demi Orimoloye grounds out, shortstop Eric Marinez to first baseman Kyle Nowlin. Joantgel Segovia flies out to center fielder Mike Martin. Mario Feliciano walks. Weston Wilson homers (2) on a line drive to left center field. Mario Feliciano scores. Tucker Neuhaus strikes out swinging.

2017 International Signing Thread
And That replied to And That's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Brewers have signed Venezuelan RHP Leonel Colina and Dominican OF Jeicol Cristian as well. Cristian's bonus is $340,000. BA is not reporting Venezuelan signing bonuses due to security concerns. -
AZL Brewers 20, AZL Padres #2 5 AZL Brewers Boxscore June 29, 2016: 15 run 1st inning July 1, 2017: 12 run 1st inning There's way too much in the box score to try and examine it all here, but suffice it to say that it was a heckuva game. The Baby Brewers' offense only had four extra base hits - a lot of the offense was generated by singles, walks and a few well placed AZL Padres errors. Two members of the offense had three hits, a "rehabbing" Yadiel Rivera and NDFA Julian Jarrard. Two of Jarrard's hits were doubles. Pat McInerney's lone hit was a double, and Tyler Lawrence hit a home run in one of his two PAs. McInerney and Francisco Thomas each walked twice. Poor Moises Perez was 0-6 with four strikeouts, and grounded into a double play. Starter Joaquin De La Cruz kept the Padres from getting back into the game, though he allowed three runs in five innings of work. AZL Brewers Game Log Not quite 15, but it'll do: AZL Brewers Top of the 1st Jesus Lujano singles on a ground ball to right fielder Tirso Ornelas. With Yadiel Rivera batting, Jesus Lujano steals (4) 2nd base. Yadiel Rivera reaches on a fielding error by third baseman Eguy Rosario. Jesus Lujano to 3rd. With Keston Hiura batting, passed ball by Luis Campusano, Jesus Lujano scores. Yadiel Rivera to 3rd. Keston Hiura singles on a line drive to center fielder Robbie Podorsky. Yadiel Rivera scores. Pat McInerney walks. Keston Hiura to 2nd. Kenny Corey singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Eguy Rosario. Keston Hiura to 3rd. Pat McInerney to 2nd. Robie Rojas out on a sacrifice fly to right fielder Tirso Ornelas. Keston Hiura scores. Julian Jarrard singles on a line drive to right fielder Tirso Ornelas. Pat McInerney to 3rd. Kenny Corey to 2nd. Moises Perez strikes out swinging. Francisco Thomas singles on a ground ball to left fielder Luis Castro. Pat McInerney scores. Kenny Corey scores. Julian Jarrard to 2nd. Jesus Lujano singles on a line drive to center fielder Robbie Podorsky. Julian Jarrard scores. Francisco Thomas to 3rd. Pitching Change: Emmanuel Clase replaces Aaron Leasher. Yadiel Rivera singles on a ground ball to center fielder Robbie Podorsky. Francisco Thomas scores. Jesus Lujano to 3rd. Keston Hiura hit by pitch. Yadiel Rivera to 2nd. With Pat McInerney batting, passed ball by Luis Campusano, Jesus Lujano scores. Yadiel Rivera to 3rd. Keston Hiura to 2nd. Pat McInerney walks. Kenny Corey reaches on a fielding error by first baseman Justin Paulsen. Yadiel Rivera scores. Keston Hiura to 3rd. Pat McInerney to 2nd. Robie Rojas singles on a ground ball to second baseman Kelvin Alarcon. Keston Hiura scores. Pat McInerney to 3rd. Kenny Corey to 2nd. Julian Jarrard doubles (2) on a ground ball to right fielder Tirso Ornelas. Pat McInerney scores. Kenny Corey scores. Robie Rojas to 3rd. AZL Brewers 10, AZL Reds 6 AZL Brewers Boxscore Two pro debuts last night for the Baby Brewers, both NDFA catchers. Alex Guenette started the game and went 1-3; he was pinch hit for by Johan Mojica in the 6th, who finished the game at backstop, going 0-2. Keston Hiura lead the way again on offense, going 3-5. When I went to bed last night, he was 2-5 but apparently one of the Reds' errors was turned into a hit at some point. All three hits were singles. Weak. Nick Egnatuk, Kenny Corey, and Julian Jarrard each chipped in with 2 hits. Each had a double and a single. Jarrard's hits were his first as a pro. Pat McInerney added three more walks to his season total, now giving him 10 in 15 official at-bats. Pseudo-rehabbing Drake Owenby got his second start and pitched a clean two innings, save for a walk. He struck out four. Matt Hardy pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth to earn his first win as a pro. AZL Brewers Game Log Four runs: AZL Brewers Bottom of the 1st Jesus Lujano grounds out, third baseman Alejandro Paulino to first baseman Raul Juarez. Keston Hiura singles on a ground ball to center fielder Reshard Munroe. Nick Egnatuk singles on a line drive to left fielder Mariel Bautista. Keston Hiura to 2nd. Pat McInerney walks. Keston Hiura to 3rd. Nick Egnatuk to 2nd. Kenny Corey walks. Keston Hiura scores. Nick Egnatuk to 3rd. Pat McInerney to 2nd. Julian Jarrard reaches on a force attempt, throwing error by shortstop Juan Perez. Nick Egnatuk scores. Pat McInerney scores. Kenny Corey to 3rd. Julian Jarrard to 2nd. Robert Henry grounds out, third baseman Alejandro Paulino to first baseman Raul Juarez. Kenny Corey scores. Alexandre Guenette strikes out swinging, catcher Valentin Martinez to first baseman Raul Juarez. Five runs: AZL Brewers Bottom of the 5th Alexandre Guenette singles on a line drive to left fielder Mariel Bautista. Francisco Thomas strikes out swinging. With Jesus Lujano batting, wild pitch by Francis Jones, . Alexandre Guenette out at 3rd, catcher Valentin Martinez to third baseman Alejandro Paulino. Jesus Lujano walks. With Keston Hiura batting, Jesus Lujano steals (1) 2nd base. Keston Hiura singles on a ground ball to center fielder Reshard Munroe. Jesus Lujano scores. You can get Hader back up to 90 pitches over the course of a few abbreviated starts, and you have Espino to basically piggyback him in those starts. -

They are both on the AZL roster. Beam played last night. Those two actually push the AZL roster total to 36, one over the limit. They'll probably make a move in the next day or two as Lazar still needs to report. -
