  1. Another classic. I think JJ could use a lesson in elementary math.
  2. With all due respect, there is a difference between being a quality fantasy player and being a quality major leaguer. Rotoworld assesses a player's fantasy value. Although I recognize the lack of hustle was inexcusable, and his benching following that play was warranted. I think Yost got his point accross. If it happens again, I'll be first in line to to encourage the Alex Sanchez treatment. But, I don't think that sort of thing will happen again.
  3. Wishful thinking. He could misfire on a sunflower seed launch, and it would generate a 12 page thread.
  4. Did you happen to use the restrooms on a crowded day? Those amenities would've been a welcome upgrade.
  5. Well... maybe it's just the cynic in me, but I'm sure Bud didn't mind being able to point to the old place and say - "look at this old decrepit building". Don't get me wrong -- I supported the building of Miller Park. It's just that the old girl looked a heck of a lot worse in '93 than it did in '87.
  6. Was it just me, or did anyone else notice that the Brewers allowed Country Stadium to go to hell in a handbasket in order to make a better case for a new stadium?
  7. Where do you get these? If the bickering amongst regulars weren't enough, I'd tune in to bf.net just to see your sigs.
  8. My guess is that left field may get a breeze with the panels open, but if you're going to sit out there, you might as well get there early and sit in Friday's with the A/C. We used to have season tix just on the right field side of the net behind home plate. If it was hot, and the roof was shut, that's not where you wanted to be. Except the roof used to leak right over us, so that could be refreshing.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif My suggestion to you is get lots of ice cream. Your daughter will love you for it.
  9. It's amazing to me how every loss is Yost's fault, yet he gets none of the credit for the victories. According to many on the board here, he's 0-51 this season. And the Brewers are 47-0 when they manage to overcome Yost's idiocy.
  10. Well... I don't know about a sweep just yet, but this one looks like a real nice matchup. Gosling allows baserunners at an alarming clip(2.0+ WHIP), he walks the house (2 every 3 innings), and it appears he's been on about a 90 pitch limit to this point as a starter. Even if he stretches out to 100, he could be out of the game by the 5th inning, if the Brewers stay patient. And their bullpen has... well... they're not good. Oh yeah... we've also got Sheets hurling. For the 2nd time this season, I am guaranteeing a W.
  11. Which is an inkling into the reasons that some of us feel the Brewers are only a big bat away from being a playoff contender. Of course that bat is most likely an Albert Pujols, but still... one bat. When's the last time that could have legitimately been said?
  12. Actually that's not true. The Cardinals are far and away the best team in the National League. If we don't beat them, but beat everyone else, I'm pretty sure we would still be a playoff team. It's no crime to lose to the Cardinals in St Louis -- even with your ace on the mound. But the Brewers aren't a playoff caliber team right now. The sooner everyone comes to grips with that, the less stressful the season will become. I am more certain now that they will be a playoff caliber team within the next year or two, than I have been in a looooong time. But this team is still a hitter or two away --- Weeks and Fielder may be those hitters. I couldn't disagree with this more. Yost managed this perfectly, as far as I'm concerned. He knew he would get a RHP in the 9th inning. If he pinch hit Jenkins and/or Branyan in the 8th, they'd be facing Ray King. If they don't give up a run in the bottom of the 8th, it would not have been possible to have had a "meaningless" AB for Jenkins. As it turned out, they still got Branyan up representing the tying run. I really don't get where this was so "shameful". As for the players "seeing how Ned manages". That's very true. And to a man, they seem effusive in their praise about him. It doesn't seem to be the standard pat answers when they speak about him. It seems much more genuine than that.
  13. The Brewers are +140 in this game. That seems like an awfully generous line with Ben Sheets on the mound.
  14. The idea that 1 OBP > 1 SLG is fairly cut and dried, and it's also common sense when you think about it. It is easier to increase .001 point in SLG because you're working on a scale of 4.000 vs the OBP scale of 1.000. It only stands to reason that it is easier to raise a SLG%. Of course, BBs counting towards OBP and not SLG mitigates that a little bit. The only problem I had with rluz's post was that the way it was presented seemed to be implying something more than that. That alone doesn't prove that player A is better -- all other things being equal. I mean, the whole idea of OBP + SLG seems rather arbitrary to me. Or even OxS. They are two separate statistics that evaluate a skill set. Saying that one is more difficult to attain -- I'll buy that. Saying that one is more important -- wasn't proven in his post. Unless it's some common knowledge that I'm not aware of. (I'm not trying to be a smart-ass when I say that)
  15. Nobody has to disagree with your work to know that it is not accurate for you to say -- and I quote -- "Player A is more valuable. That's a fact, not my "opinion."" That is your theory, which you have supported with facts. That's not true at all. You used plenty of facts to support your argument. I'm not here to debate the accuracy. If one can't see the difference between an actual fact and a theoretical conclusion, then it's not worth my trying to explain it. I think you can see the distinction. As for the analysis itself, I don't have much of a problem with it. My only concern would be that your point may not be coming across as clearly as it should. Check me if I'm wrong.... I think you're saying that the way we measure OBP and SLG, the OBP is more important - point by point - than the SLG%. Not necessarily that the guy that gets on base is more important than the slugger. I think that's what you're trying to say, but the subtleties of that are a little murky in your explanation. Especially when you say something like "Player A is more valuable. That's a fact, not my "opinion."".
  16. A theory supported by facts (yes, I know that is redundant) is often confused with facts on this site. I have read countless times the phrase -- "that's a fact", when in fact it is a theory. A point that is sure to be lost on the fact givers.
  17. My guess is the Brewers have liked to swing themselves out of a rally.
  18. With any luck, he's getting into the hot streak that makes him tradeable.
  19. He ought to introduce his seamstress to Jenkins.
  20. Get used to it... everything is Ned's fault according to the very loud minority.
  21. Beckett isn't hype. He's a stud. But, he didn't pitch well last night. AJB is pretty damn good himself, but I would give the nod to Beckett over him. If he's on his game, he'll be very tough.
  22. I think this is about as optimistic a set of goals as you should have and still be in the general area of sanity. Just to reach #1 would be a very successful season in my estimation. If they only reach 75 wins, I won't be disappointed. But, since this is tonights game thread... I don't have a real good feeling about this one. The Crew has been playing great recently, but tonight's matchup is... shall I say... ugly. But, you never know. We hammered their ace yesterday before he left with an injury.
  23. For the record -- I went on the game thread yesterday and for the first time I guaranteed a victory (so I'm 1 for 1 http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif ). I am NOT guaranteeing a victory tonight. But, I'll be rooting for one.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  24. What I want to know is why didn't Yost walk him.
