  1. Brett -- if you're willing to mitigate that brutal game by citing the strikes thrown (which is OK by me), then he's been awesome -- not just better. We could compare him to... well... him (from a few years ago), and he'd come out of it looking good. He's keeping the ball down in the zone. I know that's cliche, but it is really true for him. I don't want to get too excited, because I defended him for too long in the 1st half. Let's just say that I'm happy he's pitching well, and I hope it can continue.
  2. He's only had one bad outing since his return. I'm feeling better about him all the time.
  3. Everybody will pale in comparison to MV. He's my hero. I probably would've never dumped the MLB Extra Innings package if the Padres games had been in the package. Good NIGHT now.
  4. Sheethead... why do you bother? You have no interest in having any sort of intelligent discussion. Your only goal is to see how you can manipulate the fewest words possible out of somebody's (and not just my) posts, completely twist the meaning, and claim victory. It's juvenile. Remind me the next time you say anything, to just ignore you. You're a complete waste of time. But, I guess that's what people do when they can't legitimately defend their position. EDIT: Is it possible to put somebody on "ignore" on this site, so their posts just don't show up when you log in?
  5. I'm not sure how 3-4 would be acceptable. It's not like the season would be over, but 3-4 would be pretty disappointing. 4-3 is OK. Anything better than that is pretty darn good (5-2) to great (6-1)
  6. Wow, that just brought me down a notch. Don't get too far down. There's a difference between this team and that team. This one is actually very good.
  7. Sweep suits, anyone??? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
  8. I love the fact that at this very moment the silver lining thread is on the 1st page of threads, while the vent thread is not. That didn't happen very often in prior seasons --- or even earlier this season.
  9. It's not... I'm simply saying he's hot now - and therefore possibly turning his season around. And I demonstrated that he's likely to be better than Durham the rest of the way given their career numbers and the current stage of their careers. You chose to select one sentence out of my response to criticize when the rest of that portion of the post was relative to the point. Not an uncommon tactic unfortunately. If player A is 25 years old and has played in the major leagues for three plus years, and player B is a couple months shy of 37 and has had a long MLB career, which one would you bet on to outperform their career averages for the rest of this season? I'm pretty sure I made that point in my last post. For reasons that I can't explain, you just ignored it.
  10. There's no doubt that Billy and Ryan cadillac it as much as anyone out there. I'd prefer they didn't do that. But, as someone said earlier... if you don't like, don't let 'em hit it out. I'm sure they'll get one in their earhole soon enough.
  11. No you couldnt. Delmon Young right now would be a better lead off hitter for the Brewers then Rickie Weeks. I couldn't??? Weeks has been a better hitter than Young to this point in their careers (.351/.404/.755 to .324/.412/.736), and he does it while playing 2B instead of LF. I think that's a pretty compelling argument. Correctamundo... He's got a .415 OBP since July 6. Not only has Weeks been hot for 2.5 weeks, but his career OBP is virtually identical to Durham's. Durham at 36 is unlikely to outperform is career averages going forward, while Weeks very well could. I really like the acquisition of Durham, but he shouldn't be playing instead of Weeks - except maybe occasionally.
  12. No... we don't owe Bill Hall an apology. He vented his frustration thru the press via his agent by demanding a trade - which is his right. But, he's got to be completely naive if he thinks there's going to be absolutely no consequences from Brewer fans when you request a trade. Some fans got upset about it and booed him. They're cheering him now. There's no need for an apology. He's a big boy.
  13. Hauser -- while I think you have always significantly undervalued Ben Sheets, I will give you this... you NOW have a compelling argument to make over who is the ace of the staff. And really -- it's a great thing that we could even have that conversation. Even if it's just for a half season before both are gone.
  14. No. It just doesn't matter. Yost was unjustly criticized for it. It makes almost no difference at all.
  15. TLB -- Great post. I agree with you on more than enough of those points to not even bother with a couple of minor issues. I think the reason that some (including myself) give credit to Yost for things that he probably doesn't deserve is to try to compensate for those that believe he has far more negative impact than what we believe. In my world, the coaching staff in general is one of the least critical components of an organization. They are wayyyyyyyyyyy overrated.
  16. If this is anything more than a three times thru the rotation thing (which I'm not convinced that it is), and it works... who knows, five years from now Ned Yost could be viewed as a visionary. Wouldn't that be ironic? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif I'm convinced that history will treat Bud Selig (as Brewer's owner AND as commissioner) much kinder than his contemporaries. Perhaps Ned will share the same fate when something like this becomes common place, and the Brewers win four of the next six World Series "in spite" of him. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh... what a wonderful world that will be.
  17. The explanation would be easy in my mind. "We had a one run lead. I wanted my best pitcher out there to close out the game." I don't have much problem with that. It's not like Torres got hit hard when he blew the save in the 9th. Molina is the only guy that hurt him. The other two "hits" were infield *e-hem* "singles". The same goes when they don't perform. The manager, in general, has very little impact on the outcome of an individual game.
  18. OK... I had no problem with him pitching in that game on Sunday. He hadn't pitched in eight days. I'd just as soon see him get an inning in a game that he's unlikely to lose for us -- regardless of how many RHBs he faces. No matter how bad he is or isn't against RHBs, a five run ninth inning lead will be safe about 99% of the time, I would guess -- the Arizona game being in the 1%.
  19. Since July 6, Rickie's OBP is .404. He's warming.
  20. Are you saying that you don't think Shouse should've pitched in the 9th inning on Sunday vs RHBs with a 7-2 lead? I ask because you stressed the word SHOULD.
  21. I was not a fan of throwing Mota in the 6th. And I was not a fan of pitching to Pujols in the 9th. Other moves that might be deemed questionable were playing Bill Hall over Branyan, throwing Gagne in the 7th, not pinch hitting Branyan for Hall in the 10th, not bunting in the 8th after Hall singled, and letting Torres hit in the 10th. To be honest, I don't have much of a problem with any of those.
  22. I agree. We really need to turn Mota loose... or turn him into somebody else. The guy has pretty much stunk since 2004. He has pretty much stunk this year. I don't blame them for flipping Estrada for him and giving it a shot, but it's probably time to cut him loose. But back to the topic of the thread... Rich Harden pitches awesome, the Cubs get shutout, the Cards and Brewers climb to within 2 games. The Cubs should be afraid. They should be very afraid.
  23. I agree with you. OK. I'll buy that as a possibility. But, I don't think it will happen to that degree. That's the way I would go too. But, I have to admit that I'm a little bit intrigued by this. I'm not entirely sold on the fact that a starting pitcher needs to start every five games to stay sharp. We'll see. I guess I just give the Brewers brass the benefit of the doubt that they've thought this thru. I think they realize the consequences. And I'd be really surprised if this isn't endorsed by a good number of people (including analysts) in the organization. Furthermore, I have serious doubts whether or not Ned concocted this idea at all. My guess it came from the same group of people that advanced the idea to hit the pitchers 8th. But, I have heard nothing to support my theory. I'm skeptical, but willing to give it a shot and see what happens. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. #4 -- quick hook on Suppan I'll be very interested to see how Suppan comes back. Prior to his meltdown that led to a DL stint, he had been pretty good all year. If he truly had someting wrong with that caused the dl stint, then we can probably expect him to come back pretty strong. If not, we have a three pitcher controversy for the last two spots in the rotation. And if we want to limit Parra's innings it could be four guys for three spots. I agree with the quick on Suppan and McClung though. If things go as expected, we should be able to rest the pen in the last two games of the series. We can use 'em all in the first two.
  25. You've done some writing for Bill, haven't you?
