Final: Biloxi 2, Mississippi 1 Walks Prove Extra Costly for M-Braves in Shuckers' Win Walk-Off Free Pass the Difference in the Tenth By Spencer Siegel Biloxi Box Score Biloxi pulled a win out of the hats on Saturday, winning in extra innings despite only managing five hits and four walks. Tyler Heineman had three of Biloxi's five hits, and drove in the game-tying run in the 10th. Mississippi pitchers didn't just walk in the winning run - they walked the last three batters to drive in the winning run. Ouch. Mississippi was not helped by leaving 14 runners on base. Kodi Medeiros worked around five hits and four walks over five scoreless innings Batting Tyler Heinemann: 3-4 Lucas Erceg: 1-4, 2B Mitch Ghelfi: 1-4 Pitching Kodi Medeiros: 5.0 IP, 5 hits, 0 ER, 4BB, 7K Miguel Sanchez: 2.0 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1BB, 2K Quintin Torres-Costa: 2.0 IP, 1 hit, 0 ER, 0BB, 3K Danny Reynolds: 1.0 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1BB, 0K, Win Notes Darren Seferina wore the Golden Sombrero on Saturday, going 0-4 with four strikeouts. With Tyler Heineman batting, Darren Seferina steals (2) 3rd base. Tyler Heineman singles on a soft fly ball to right fielder Tyler Neslony. Darren Seferina scores. I would think the Nationals and Mariners would be mostly out on Machado. Nats have Anthony Rendon at 3B and the Mariners have Kyle Seeger. Both have been good players as recently as last year, and will probably bank on an improvement from those guys (assuming both are healthy). Plus, the Mariners have no one to trade.

What should be DS targets
Matt Breen replied to brewmann04's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I like Crawford a lot. And adding him would mean the defense wouldn't suffer. As you note, age is not on his side, but you figure he's got a couple of good seasons left in him. His bat is solid - nothing special (I don't expect him to hit .300+ like his is this year - more like .260ish). He's due $15M per year through 2021, so he isn't cheap. Not sure SF would deal him (although they should). I guess it all comes down to are you willing to move on from Arcia. That's Stearns' call - and I don't know what the answer is. -
What should be DS targets
Matt Breen replied to brewmann04's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Lowrie would be a fine 2B, but he's really come down the past month. More of a utility guy - or if you think he'll stabilize 2B - he's an option. Carbera would a rental as he's a FA after the season. No way you pay that much for him. And he's not a very good SS anymore. He'd be fine 2B if you wanted to get a guy to solidify the position for the rest of the year. Perhaps he wouldn't be awful at SS, but I remember seeing him a year or two ago at the position and he seems to have really lost his range (which was never that good). Semien isn't anything special in my opinion. He's okay. I don't think he'd cost anything close to what you've posted. But maybe others feel he's a lot better. Galvis is not much different than Arica. Good defender, can't hit. At 28, never will change. I'd pass. Anderson has a .290 OBP for his career. He's got some talent, but his inability to get on base is a killer. Just too flawed of a player for my taste. I certainly wouldn't want to have him in our line up now. Machado would be ideal. I think the price would be big - but not massive, as he's a rental. But exactly how much he would cost is another story. You're offer of Peralta, Ray and Santana seems high on initial glance - but when you consider it, Santana's stock is really down. And Ray and Peralta aren't can't miss type prospects. Not sure if Baltimore would want Santana. I read somewhere they would want a couple of young, close to the majors arms. Some interesting ideas. -
Syndergaard and deGrom
Matt Breen replied to Warning Track Power's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
deGrom or Syndergaard would almost assuredly require Hiura as a centerpiece on a return. Both are amongst the top pitchers in baseball, they have 2.5 and 3.5 years of control attached to them. They are no rentals. And at ages 30 and 25, they are should maintain their skillset through their contracts. Chris Sale (who is probably about as perfect a player to be traded in the last few years due to his age, ability, performance, durability, good health, affordable contract, etc.) netted the #2 prospect in baseball (Moncada), plus a guy ranked between 15-35 - depending on the publication (Kopech). And while deGrom and Syndergaard aren't Sale - they are pretty darn good players. You can probably argue that Hiura is a Top 25ish guy now. Add in another top 100 player, and one or two borderline top 100 guys - and you have something the Mets might consider. I'd say a Hiura and then Burnes and two of Peralta, Ray, Woodruff, Ortiz or Phillips. I'm not sure I'd want to do this. I'm just thinking that's what it would take for a player the caliber of deGrom or Syndergaard. -
Final: Biloxi 5, Mississippi 0 Shuckers Crowned First Half South Division Champs Behind Brown's One-Hitter Brewers' #23 Prospect Takes No-No to the Game's Final Strike By Spencer Siegel Biloxi Box Score Tonight was all about Zack Brown. Brown lost a no-hitter with two outs in the bottom of the 9th on a bloop single to CF. Corey Ray made a nice diving try for the ball, but could not come up with it. Brown would settle for a one hitter, walking no one and striking out eight. It was a magnificent performance - and clinched the first half division championship for Biloxi. Shucker hitters did well on Friday night, rapping out 10 hits and wrangling three walks. Troy Stokes Jr., Keston Hiura and Jake Hager had a pair of hits each. Reliever Nick Ramirez - a former 1B - took over for Jake Gatewood (after the latter was hit by a pitch), and slugged a 3-run dinger in the 7th. Congratulations to Zach Brown on his gem of a game. And congratulations to the Shuckers for capturing the Batting Troy Stokes Jr.: 2-4 Keston Hiura: 2-4 Nick Ramirez: 1-3, HR, 3 RBI Lucas Erceg: 1-3, BB Jake Hager: 2-2, BB Pitching Zach Brown: 9.0 IP, 1 hit, 0 ER, 0BB, 8K, Win Notes Zack Brown rules! Biloxi Game Log Gotta love Nick Ramirez coming in and playing 1B - and then popping a 3-run HR. Biloxi Bottom of the 7th Pitching Change: Sean McLaughlin replaces Bryse Wilson, batting 9th. Zack Brown pops out to second baseman Alay Lago. Corey Ray singles on a line drive to center fielder Connor Lien. With Troy Stokes Jr. batting, Corey Ray picked off and caught stealing 2nd base, pitcher Sean McLaughlin to first baseman Tyler Marlette. Troy Stokes Jr. singles on a ground ball to shortstop Luis Marte. Keston Hiura singles on a ground ball to center fielder Connor Lien. Troy Stokes Jr. to 2nd. Nick Ramirez homers (1) on a fly ball to right center field. Troy Stokes Jr. scores. Keston Hiura scores. Lucas Erceg grounds out, shortstop Luis Marte to first baseman Tyler Marlette.

What should be DS targets
Matt Breen replied to brewmann04's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I'm guessing Baltimore is going to hang on to him a while so that he can prove he's healthy. If he's lights out, the price will certainly go up. But right now, I doubt Britton costs too much since he's making $12M and coming off an injury. Take on his remaining salary and perhaps you don't have to give up too much. -

Final: Mississippi 5, Biloxi 4 M-Braves Top Shuckers in Extras, but Magic Number Reduced to One Hiura Adds His Third Straight Multi-Hit Effort By Spencer Siegel Biloxi Box Score Biloxi lost 5-4 on Thursday in extra innings. The Shuckers had their chances, but they committed three errors and went only 1-12 with runners in scoring position. Highlights for the Shuckers included Jake Gatewood's 2-run HR in the 1st, and Keston Hiura's two hits. Also, Trent Grisham got on base three times with a hit and two walks. This was coming back from ~11:40AM CST to after 11:50AM CST. What always amazed me was how brewerfan.net was always up no matter what the traffic congestion has been in the past. If others are having the same issue, you might want to check if there was an update recently that is causing an issue because I have seen a noticeable degradation in site availability recently (did not correlate to MLB Draft)... Thanks for the notice. We have noted this problem as well, and are looking into what can be done to correct the problem. On behalf of all the mods, we appreciate your patience with regards to this issue.

Final: Biloxi 6, Mississippi 5 Hiura When You Need Him the Most, Shuckers Walk-Off with #1 Prospect's Home Run Biloxi Drops Magic Number Down to Two By Spencer Siegel Biloxi Box Score Keston Hiura hit a walk off HR in the bottom of the 9th to propel the Shuckers to a 6-5 victory over the Braves. The Shuckers got a good performance from Thomas Jankins on the mound (only 1 earned run over six innings), and a key bases-loaded pinch triple from Clint Coulter in the 8th inning, which tied the game. With the victory, plus a lose by Mobile, the Shuckers magic number to clinch the South Division first half title stands at two with four games left to play. Miami Marlins Trade
Matt Breen replied to BrewCrewBlueDevil's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
This would be a really, really poor trade for Milwaukee. Straily is a back of the rotation arm - a nice thing to have, but he's not a difference maker. Plus, he began the season on the DL with arm inflammation - something you'd have to make sure isn't a long term issue. Dietrich is just meh. He's a bit of a tweener, doesn't walk much, and struggles against left handers. Both guys have value - but not a lot. They certainly would be okay to have, but no way you give up that much for them. -
I don't see Stearns overpaying for any player or position - but will instead keep his eyes and ears open, look for depth and upgrades, but only make moves if he really sees the value. Again, it all comes down to value. If the opportunity is there - then he will look to make a move. In the end, that means nothing could happen - or a lot could happen. It just depends on the market. As a general rule, I think that quality starters and relievers will be hard to find since they usually fetch a high return at the deadline. Position players are usually a little different. Sometimes - but not always - a very good player can be had for a low price (example: JD Martinez last year). So, Stearns will watch the market, and make moves if the value is there.

Final: Jacksonville 3, Biloxi 2 Three Early Runs Enough for Shrimp to Top Biloxi Hiura Records Fourth Multi-Hit Game With Shuckers By Garrett Greene / Biloxi Shuckers (Michael Krebs) Biloxi Box Score The bats were mostly silent Tuesday afternoon in Jacksonville. The Shuckers managed only five hits and a walk for the day. The result was a pair of runs - not enough to top the Jumbo Shrimp. Keston Hiura led the Shucker batters with a pair of hits. On the mound, Trey Supak was roughed up early, giving up three runs in the 1st - before settling down the rest of the way. Final: Jacksonville 6, Biloxi 5 Shrimp Walk Off Shuckers 6-5 Medeiros Spins Six Innings, Hits Grand Slam By Garrett Greene / Biloxi Shuckers Biloxi Box Score Painful lose on Monday. Former Brewer farmhand Monte Harrison hit a 3-run, walk off HR off Shucker closer Nate Griep to rally Jacksonville over Biloxi 6-5. The lose spoiled a nice out from Kodi Medeiros, who allowed only four hits, a walk and one run over six innings. I'm a bit surprised Lutz kept that high of a ranking - but they love the guy over there. And he's been playing better after the slow start. Also surprised Peralta is didn't make things. I'm guessing there are concerns about his command - and ultimate role. Ray is about where I expect - a borderline Top 100 guy. If he keeps playing well, he'll rise up. But as we've said, he needs to show his ability over a longer time frame to show he's actually improved. Another thing they noted was that Erceg and Grisham have fallen off their radar, due to approach issues for Erceg and swing and miss issues for Grisham. Again, not a surprise. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-updated-top-131-prospect-rankings/

The Miller add seems like a solid move. It comes for cheap. It's one of the reasons you keep some financial flexibility - so you can take on some salary during the course of the season to shore of deficiencies. The only thing I'm miffed about is that Sogard is still around. He's a better defender than Miller, but Miller's bat way outclasses Sogard's. Just make the move and go. Although I can imagine they are going to give Miller a few games at SS to get him re-acquainted to the position - but it doesn't seem like that should be a big deal for a guy like him. As for the SS position - I still hope Arcia can turn things around. His defense is great, and if he can get some things ironed out, I think his bat can be okay. But we shall see.

Interesting option. Miller is best suited for 2B. He can play SS, but is not very good there. He's got some pop. He has also struggled against left handed pitchers in his career - in particular his slugging against lefties plummets. I don't really think he's an upgrade over Villar. Better than Sogard? Yes.

Thames to DL.....Woodruff recalled from AAA
Matt Breen replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I look forward to Thames left handed power bat coming back to the lineup. Personally, I don't want him in the outfield. Let him start against right handers. Aguilar will start against lefties. Defensively, I don't want to force square pegs into round holes.
