  1. It appears that Keon broke his wrist banging into the wall at Wrigley today. Gotta love brick walls in baseball. Brilliant.
  2. I'm thinking someone on the 40 man - or someone who the club has to put on it this off season. If they are planning on Wren, it could be him. But I know Brinson is a lock to be added, so perhaps him. Reed would work as well. It's only a couple of weeks, so not a huge deal. Kirk N. will get most of the starts anyways.
  3. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/the-hypocrisy-of-tony-la-russa-and-the-understandable-fears-of-black-baseball-players-045857175.html Just awesome.
  4. Grain of salt. Keith Law is a notorious Brewer lover.
  5. Regarding Diaz - a baseball writer told me that several scouts he knows (not Brewer scouts) have raved about him. There's something electric in his bat, and you can just see it. I compare it several years ago when the same writer told me about seeing Brett Lawrie at Wisconsin - he said there was just something special about his bat. You might see a guy, and say, "Sure, he's a good looking hitter" or whatever. But then you see someone who really does have a special bat, and it just jumps out at you. I try not to get too excited about him, because he's not perfect. And as noted, he's been streaky. I can't wait to see him in an advanced environment and see how he develops.
  6. Why didn't any team make a claim on Braun, and just hope Milwaukee let them have him and his contract? No one did, so that seems to indicate that Ryan Braun isn't worth 4 years/$76M (with about $4M deferred annually) to other teams (plus whatever he gets for the rest of the year).
  7. This was so weird. The video is not good on it, but it looks like the ump just grabbed the pirate 1B. I assume the ump reached out and just hooked the pirates fielder. Just bizarre looking. I'd like to see good video of the play.
  8. Yeah, he's been really good. My nephew lives in Arlington and he can't stop raving about how great Luc has been. In pretty much every way. Jeffress on the other hand.... My guess is Rangers fans are probably mildly disappointed in the Jeffress aspect of the deal, but probably get over it pretty quickly, given that Luc has been absolutely raking since he's been on the Rangers. Not really part of the Luc/Jeffress deal, but Gomez has been alright as well (.788 OPS) since being picked up by the Rangers as well. Only hitting .222, but he's hitting with some power and playing every day. I wouldn't be surprised to see the team lock up Luc to an extension as well. He's doing great, he fills a need, it's a good hitting environment, the team is good (and should be for a while), he's close to his Louisiana home, and the AL has the DH so Luc get slide in there every now and then to keep the wear and tear off his knees. I also think he's the kind of guy that really would like to get a deal done and not worry about the rumors and speculation of a contract year. It's really a pretty sweet landing spot for Luc.
  9. I think this is more realistic than a lot of people's hopes. I just don't see Top 100 type guys coming back. That's my opinion. I'd be thrilled with Buehler.
  10. I would hate seeing Braun in another uniform, but I get it.
  11. Obviously, Lopez and Nottingham will fall out of Top 100 lists. I wouldn't be surprised if Phillips does - but he's probably a borderline guy. I think that he has enough talent that people will keep him on for another year. Clark could fall out as well, but I don't think so. He's got injuries to blame and people will recognize that. I think Diaz is close to a lock to get in. Woodruff borderline, but I'm inclined to say he'll make it. His season was just too good. Erceg I doubt as people will want a little more track record and at a higher level before they get more excited. A month or two ago, I was thinking Diplan would have a chance to make it, but his stint at Brevard County was mediocre and he'll likely have to wait. I was high on Ponce as well, but he'll collapsed at season's end, dashing any chance of getting noticed. Using MLB Pipeline's rankings, 8-9 guys could exit their list by season's end due to using up their rookie eligibility (Arcia, Swanson, Judge, Reynaldo Lopez, Mondesi, Jake Thompson, Joe Musgrave, Luke Weaver, Clevinger). Of course, any of these guys could get shut down to preserve their rookie eligibility. But it will open up some spots, as will guys getting dropped. In the end, I'm not going to get worked up if guys don't make the list. Those that struggled, I just want to see them regain their stuff and get back on track. But we have to remember that prospects fail more than not, so I don't want to get too freaked out when a guy goes into the dumpster.
  12. In all of MLB's top 100, only one guy gets a 70 for control. Heck, only one guy gets a 60 or 65. To say Suter has a 70 control is really stretching things.
  13. I think it all depends. It doesn't hurt to listen. Look what the Phillies got for Giles last off season. It just takes one team to make that leap. However, teams in need of a quality reliever have the luxury of the Free Agent market in the off season, so I imagine clubs will be reluctant to give up a ton of prospects if they can just throw money at the problem. Of course, that's not an option for some clubs, so again - can't hurt to ask. As for his value - right now my guess it's in the 'what we got for Will Smith' ballpark - mid-Top 100 guy, plus another guy. Tyler doesn't have the track record guys like Miller have, but his 2016 has just been outstanding - top 10 in baseball if you look at bWAR and fWAR. Your best value might be at the trade deadline next year - assuming Thornburg keeps pitching lights out. Teams are desperate at this time and pitching seems to extract the best results in the middle of a pennant race. The best part is that you wait for a king's ransom. If it doesn't happen - just enjoy having Tyler. But if a great deal comes along - grab it. Relief pitching is often very volatile for most guys. That's why guys like Chapman and Miller are so valuable. They kick butt year-after-year - meaning you can trust them to do well again next year.
  14. This is correct. Brewers had Ray as their top guy.
  15. Orlando Arcia has officially hit the 130 AB mark, making him ineligible for the next BF.net Community Top 25. He held the top spot for six consecutive polls. Congratulations to Orlando, and let the speculation for our next top prospect begin. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/images/players/head_shot/606115.jpg
  16. That's what Khris Davis uses to throw balls in from the outfield.
  17. I don't know if this has been posted, but Fangraphs is running an 'early look' series on the 2017 draft - just eligible high school players. It is by position, and here's what they've done so far: Centerfielders: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/an-early-look-at-the-center-fielders-in-the-2017-draft/ Left Handed Pitchers: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2017-draft-summer-showcase-series-left-handed-pitchers/ Catchers: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/an-early-look-at-the-catchers-in-the-2017-draft/ Middle Infielders: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/an-early-look-at-middle-infielders-in-the-2017-mlb-draft/
  18. I was just looking at this yesterday. The cut off is 130 ABs, and Arcia is at 119, so as Outlander noted, should be in the next 3-4 games. I couldn't remember if it was 130 plate appearances or 130 ABs when I was looking. But it is the latter. Arcia has been our #1 prospect since the 2nd poll - mid-season 2014 - when he beat out Tyrone Taylor by a single point. Amazing what can happen to two guys at the exact same spot professionally. Taylor is now #30 on our list. Wow.
  19. The only way Arcia would get dealt would be for another similar young major league ready top prospect, but of a different position, like a pitcher such as Julio Urias. Very hard to find matches like that.
  20. Perez has a 22.6% strikeout rate for 2016. His career rate is 22%.
