  1. I just laughed when I saw this. How about a deal between the Mets and Orioles. Nothing would ever get done.
  2. I like Holmes - he sits around 60-80 on most Top 100 lists. Montas was a borderline Top 100 guy before the season, but has slipped down with some injuries this year. Still, he's a solid arm.
  3. I looked at the numbers - I knew the Mets offense was not good, but I didn't really just how bad they are - 3rd worst in the NL. Lucroy would have been perfect for them. Too bad they didn't want to give up more for him.
  4. Reds supposedly getting two lower level minor league guys as well. So essentially Bruce for Nimmo.
  5. I haven't really seen Bruce play the field, but I've read he's ranked as the worst or one of the worst defensive players in baseball. But he's got an .875 OPS - teams will ignore defense for that kind of production. Nimmo isn't a bad pick of for the Reds. Not great either. If he can develop a little power he could be a regular - but that's the question for him and a lot of other guys as well. If.
  6. Former big league pitcher Dan Haren had a great tweet today: The trade deadline just doesn't seem the same without me being every team's fallback option. Oh wait.... He then posts a ton of tweets ripping teams for acquiring him. Pretty funny.
  7. Dude is ripped. Can't tell the guy, "Act like you've been there," because he never has. First career ML walk off. Couldn't happen to a better opponent. I'm sure the Cardinals will hit him or someone else on the Marlins next time they play within a few innings. Perhaps a team could play the Cardinals without shirts on - just a bunch of buff guys with temporary tattoo logos and numbers on their torsos.
  8. There's some talk that Chris Sale may be available. Teams like Boston and Rangers may be holding their chips to see what happens in that arena before moving on to Lucroy and other players. Once that chip falls (if it falls), then others will go down. So this might take us right up to the deadline.
  9. The Brewers have been shopping Smith heavily, but if he is experiencing some health issues I wouldn't be surprised if teams backed off. That said, it's okay to hold on to Will. If he gets healthy he's still really valuable in a deal down the road. No need to push a trade just to make a trade.
  10. I wonder if Lucroy got the feeling that Cleveland was going to do this exact same thing this winter - put him up for auction and recoup most (if not all) of what they traded him for. Perhaps he just didn't want to go through it a second time. I thought Dave Cameron wrote at good story about the Lucroy veto situation over at Fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/there-are-no-villains-in-the-jonathan-lucroy-story/
  11. Just a salary dump by Seattle. Miley is owed about $11M through 2017. Seattle can spend it on someone else that isn't that good in their desperation to win.
  12. I remember Roy Oswalt playing some LF for Philly a few years ago. I believe he played a few innings - not just one batter.
  13. Final: Colorado Springs 9, Oklahoma City 8 (10 innings) Garcia Gives Sky Sox 9-8 Walk Off Win By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox The Sky Sox scored three runs in the 9th inning to come from behind and tie the Oklahoma City Dodgers, then score the winning run on a Rene Garcia single in the 10th. The Dodgers didn’t help their cause by committing five errors. The Sky Sox knocked out 12 hits, including three hits from Rene Garcia (including the game winner), plus two each from Kyle Wren, Nate Orf (who also homered), Michael Reed and Yadiel Rivera. The Sky Sox won in the 10th after Michael Reed walked to lead off the inning. He advanced to 2nd on Rivera’s sac bunt, then scored on Garcia’s single to center. Wily Peralta was cruising until the 6th inning, then he served up a three-run HR to Corey Brown (Brown would hit two HRs on the day). Peralta’s final numbers were uninspiring, going 5 2/3 innings giving up four runs, eight hits and pair of walks while striking out four. Brewer pitchers gave up 14 hits to go with four walks. Damien Magnifico picked up his sixth win after pitching a scoreless 10th inning. Colorado Springs Box Score Colorado Springs Game Log
  14. With regards to Gallo, the kid is an 80 power. There aren't many guys with that number. Stanton, Harper and Bryant come to mind. Probably a few others, but I don't know if anyone in the minors has that ranking. I'm not saying Gallo will be good. Without question, his hit tool is an issue, and could easily make the guy a bust. But he has a very unique and rare skill - maximum power. A lot just comes down to the Brewers scouts and coaches and what they think about Gallo. If they think they can make the guy a major league regular, there's the potential for some huge returns. But yes, there's probably a big risk with him, unlike a lot of the other Top 20 types. But if he didn't have question marks, there's no way Texas would be trading him.
  15. Could Junior Guerra potentially be going to Texas as well? Just a whisper.
  16. The best thing about Miller to the Indians is that it throws down the gauntlet with the rest of the league - specifically Boston. The Sox are going to see Cleveland getting better. And they should know that Cleveland isn't necessarily done. The Indians could re-engage Milwaukee on Lucroy or make other moves (add a reliever, other bat). This might make the Sox step up. By making a good offer for Lucroy, it not only improves their team, but it keeps him from the Indians. That could be a big motivating factor for Boston.
  17. ESPN has listed all the lineups for today's games - just in case people want to speculate: http://espn.go.com/fantasy/baseball/story/_/page/mlb_dailylineups/daily-lineups-fantasy-baseball-tips-every-mlb-game Of course, no Lucroy today.
  18. No. If you're not good with it, pass. The Brewers loved Mejia. They saw a potential all-star. The Mets aren't offering that kind of player. And as noted by others, I think you can do better in the off-season. The market for Luc just wasn't great, which is why we didn't get a better deal. There's many reasons for that, but the big one is simply that teams aren't in the playoff race right now and thus don't want to spend a lot on a catcher. I think we've all run through the teams - Boston, Houston, Cleveland, Detroit, Texas, etc., etc. But realistically, there's a limited number of clubs who need Luc and are willing to pay for him. In the off season, everyone is equal. Hopefully, that means more potential suitors. Also, there's the whole concept of teams not liking to change catchers mid-season. I don't know how real it is, but it may have played a role in some team's decisions - especially teams with borderline catching. A club like Texas or LA might have said, 'You know, Lucroy would be great, but our pitchers and catchers are good with each other. Let's not mess things up unless we can get a good deal.' This argument goes away in the offseason. The risk is that Lucroy could get hurt in the next two months or tank offensively. That's a big risk, however, so if you are happy with the deal you can get today, you make the move.
  19. I guess I'm not freaking out about this falling apart. I thought the return was a bit light, but such is life. For what its worth, the Brewers reportedly really loved Mejia and saw him as an all-star. As for Lucroy, I wish he hadn't declined the trade, but it's his prerogative to do so. I don't know all the details, but if he didn't like things (for whatever reason - money, playing time, etc.), then he can say no. It doesn't make me like him more, but I'm not wishing bad things on the guy either. I will assign some fault to Stearns and the front office for not having this in place with Lucroy before the deal. It seems they finalized the deal, then went to Lucroy - but perhaps I'm wrong about this. But knowing the no trade clause was there, they should have gone to him earlier and understood if there were issues with Cleveland. However, maybe things just came together quickly. Who knows. I am okay waiting to deal Lucroy this off season. I know there is risk - injury, performance decline (a real issue considering Luc plays a lot and has a history of faltering late in the season). But more teams would likely be in on him this winter. Now we seem to just have a handful of suitors, so perhaps we can redo this in the winter and do just as good (if not better). In the end, I'm not sweating things. It is what it is. Nothing more I can do about it. I just want to build a winning club.
  20. I have heard from a baseball writer that the Brewer's price on JJ is very high. The Crew is happy to keep him, and will only give him up on for a big price. So, nothing really new. Just that someone is going to have to give up a lot for Jeffress if they want him. We won't sell low. Otherwise, he's staying put.
  21. Ah, money talks over everything.
  22. I will second this from a source of mine. Not a sure thing, but pretty sure it will happen at some point.
  23. Mejia, Chang and Allen. I'm hoping one decent arm here...
  24. I have heard from a source that Will Smith is likely to get traded. Don't know if it would part of this deal, but I thought I'd pass that on.
