  1. Cervelli broke his hand - out 4-6 weeks. Bet he's glad he signed that extension now. If he came back and struggled, he'd have taken a big hit. Signing an extension always has its risks - but also its rewards. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/16110429/pittsburgh-pirates-gerrit-cole-francisco-cervelli-leave-game-injuries
  2. You're totally right. You don't need to move him. He probably has more value (in the trade market) as an OF, so best keep him there if that's the end game. And like you said, it's not like anyone is knocking at the door to take his spot.
  3. I think this is spot on. I bet he's hoping Scooter does well so he can actually trade him for something.
  4. Phillips' is striking out 37% of the time. That's unsustainable. I haven't really seen him (other than highlight videos), but I suspect he's selling out for more power. Hence the spike in Ks and drop in BA (to go with he rise in HRs). He definitely needs to adjust something. Reed perplexes me. I always liked the guy since I love OBP. I thought he'd step up this year, but instead he's gone backwards. The walks are awesome, but the strikeouts and low BA aren't going to cut it. Both guys have been disappointments for me this year. Not awful or anything, like Lopez, who has just tanked. But I had hoped for better from both of them.
  5. I think it would be great, but he has to show he can do it. He was painfully bad at 3B, but I don't think that precludes him from being a decent 1B. I know some people will kick and scream at the idea because of his time at 3B, but I wouldn't mind him giving it a try. That's assuming we intend on keeping him.
  6. If I remember right I think we opted for one midseason list update after the trading deadline. But maybe I was wrong. There is no set date, but I am thinking we'll wait until the trade deadline this year. One year we waited until after the deadline, the other we did it at the all-star break. If you wait until after the deadline, you, obviously, get any new guys added (or lost) to the system involved in the voting. You also get all the new draft picks and short season ball players a little more exposure to the voters. However, if you wait too long, you also get to the point where the minor leaguers are almost done for the year. This makes the 'mid-season' list and the 'post season' list not that much different. My inclination this year is to wait until we reach the trade deadline. With all the uncertainty of things, I think there could be a lot of trades, and I don't want to start voting, then have a bunch of deals happen mid-way through things. It would just be confusing. I'll leave the door open to doing something earlier, just in case the Brewers go wild and trade all their chips early, but I think the trade deadline is the wisest thing this year. I would expect to do all the voting the first week of August.
  7. To be fair he is 31 years old and was acquired off waivers in the off-season. I wouldn't necessarily classify it as a "miss" on our part! No, it was all in good fun. No 31 year old guy is really a 'prospect' for us. The best you can really hope for is a reserve or reliever - which isn't much. If he actually turns into a decent starter for a few years, that's the outlier and something you can never really predict.
  8. Junior Guerra is no longer eligible for the BF.net prospect poll, crossing the 50 IP mark for his career. Junior never received any votes in our polls, so it just goes to show you how much we all know
  9. How was that poor fundamentals? He slid in to the bag and the fielder pushed his hand off. He was too wide and slid too late - went past the bag a bit too far.
  10. The rock and roll, and pop culture references keep coming... It's a shame about Ray not having a good music reference I don't see any http://cdn.ideastations.org.s3.amazonaws.com/article-images/article-width/ray-charles.jpg?itok=CqeNf_ze I was thinking this: http://first-avenue.com/sites/default/files/images/events/the-lemonheads-its-a-shame-about-ray.jpg
  11. The sad part is that if had just slid properly he would have been fine. Simple fundamentals.
  12. Pathetic at bat. Why would anyone throw anything but a high fastball to the guy. He just swings and misses all the time.
  13. I want a really high quality player back for Luc - preferably a pitcher. He is our main chip to acquire a potential top of the order pitcher - don't waste it on a decent 1B prospect and a pitcher who will only have - if I'm correct - only three years of service time left before being a FA. I want a guy with 5 or more years of control.
  14. Thank you. I didn't know if anyone would even recognize the reference.
  15. The rock and roll, and pop culture references keep coming... It's a shame about Ray not having a good music reference
  16. It would be one of the fastest groups in the league.
  17. College stats don't directly correlate with pro stats. If they did, Rickie Weeks would have been a multiple MVP winner, which people still thought he would be when he was in the minors. Jackie Bradley, Jr. Hit .247 with a .346 OBP his walk year. He was far better his freshman and sophomore years (.349 and .368), so I suspect he was injured or something (plus he only play 42 games as a junior).
  18. As a general rule, the first sentence works, but there are always exceptions. If a good deal comes around, mid-season, off-season, whenever, you make it. I saw one writer comment about Lucroy - you rarely have the best (or close to the best) player at a specific position in the league available to trade. Teams make exceptions for elite players.
  19. Feliciano gets a 40 power on MLB.com, but the analysts are talking about his big power.
  20. Brewers take Mario Feliciano, C, from Puerto Rico. He was ranked #143 by MLB.com.
  21. Kyle Funkhouser lost a lot of money by going back to school.
