  1. Bradley has always shown pretty prominent splits. Righties just pound him. But this year even lefties were hitting him. The Braves would do well do admit he's a LOGGY and let him focus on doing that one thing - getting out left handed hitters. This is, admittedly, a limited path for him - but nothing else seems to have worked.
  2. If you get anything of value for Hill it's a solid move. Hill has played solid ball, and offers some versatility for a contending club. But that's just not us. Shed the salary, get a prospect - it's a positive. Then you let Perez or someone play 3B full time and see how they do over the long haul.
  3. I agree. Wilson Contreras is pounding the ball at AAA - hitting .300+ with an OBP over over .400. 1.001 OPS. Of course, it can't hurt to ask. The Cubbies want to give us Contreras, I'd do that.
  4. I was wondering if they would let go of Presley. He's mediocre at best, and we already have a couple of other left handed outfielders in Flores and He Who Is Impossible To Spell. I kind of wish they'd just let Broxton play full time for a while in the majors. See how he does.
  5. Villar will be tough (but not impossible) to get in because a) he's from Milwaukee, and b) he'll only have 1/2 a season of good play (assuming he keeps up his good play), and c) Milwaukee will probably already have representation with Lucroy and/or Braun, and d) there are a lot of solid shortstops in the NL, and e) if Russell gets voted in there will be an undeserving SS in the game, taking up a spot. It'll be easy for the NL to pass on him. Diaz, Crawford, Seager, Cozart, Trevor Story - those are all okay picks. With each team requiring a rep, a club such as Cincy might get Cozart named to the team due to the fact he's one of their few decent players this year. Still, it's not impossible. There's a solid month of play for people to fade or improve. And who knows about a guy like Braun - he may take the time off to heal his aching (insert body part).
  6. Winning record in May - 15-14. Of course, it helps that 17 of those games were against teams with worse records than ours.
  7. Jeremy Jeffress Will Smith Tyler Thornburg Michael Blazek Corey Knebel That's a very interesting core of relievers that we can hang our hats on for the next few years. I am looking forward to see how Barnes and Magnifico do.
  8. I'll take Dave Cash. I always loved this baseball card. Cash looked like he was really annoyed.
  9. The the sixth pick, Oakland selects 3B Nick Senzel of Tennessee. The pick was pretty cut, but I don't think going forward things are going to be that easy. The Miami Marlins are on the clock. Please make your selection by EOD on Sunday, June 5. Have fun!
  10. I'm going with Senzel for Oakland at #6.
  11. Cruz was, I believe a 21 year old Rule 5 pickup. An infielder. We kept him all year, and he hit .085. .243 OPS. He barely played. Totally over matched. He 30 strikeouts on 71 ABs. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cruzen01.shtml He had only one other AB in his career.
  12. Enrique Cruz for me. He was worse than a pitcher. He was overmatched in every AB. Cruz was awful.
  13. Thank you for the clarification. I imagine it is the bullpen for Wily (or DL). However, if the club is willing to cut ties with Peralta, they might just let someone claim him and be off the hook for the rest of his salary. Not a huge amount, but you never know. I could see the team just saying to themselves that he's never going to be a decent starter going forward, and he wouldn't be worth putting in the bullpen. If that's the case, they may just let him walk after the season anyhow. But I doubt that happens. They'll try him in the pen for a month or something, see if he can right himself, then give him another chance.
  14. I also like hearing people's reasoning for the picks.
  15. I think it's Peralta. If not DL like some suggest, then I predict he gets sent to the minors (I don't think he can refuse any such assignment). If he goes to the minors, he work on his mechanics or whatever the club feels he needs. He's no use stinking up the rotation. He's got to improve, and he's just not doing that now. A bullpen move could also happen, but I'd bet on the minors move first.
  16. It seems to be getting worse every year.
  17. Because you have a roster of 25 - not 3. Plus you can expand that to 30 or so when you add in depth, it's even more difficult. All-stars can carry a team to a degree, and you can hide weak players to a degree, but winning in baseball rarely happens when a team carries lots of crappy players.
  18. Byrd has been suspended by baseball for the 2nd time - netting a 1 year ban. He is not appealing the ban. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/06/marlon-byrd-positive-ped-test-162-game-ban.html Byrd claims he received a tainted supplement. Amazing how many of those are floating around. Good chance his career is over as he will almost be 40 when his ban is complete next year. He was having a solid year with Cleveland, producing a .778 OPS in 34 games.
  19. Ramon Flores has reached 130+ plate appearances, and is thus no longer eligible for our prospect list. Flores peaked at #37 in his only Top 25 poll this past spring. Well done, Ramon. Now start hitting the ball
  20. Good for Barnes! I wish we were trying more guys like him instead of using spots for 1-year types like Torres. Not that Torres is awful - just he's likely not part of the long term.
  21. Quick mid-draft question - how are people liking the format of the community draft? Just kind of wondering what reactions were to the entire process? My only comment would be that if we do this again, do we have people message me (or whomever is running things) their pick instead of posting it in the thread? I only ask because I wonder if other people's selections could be affecting other people (example - someone comes to make the 1st pick - they see that Groome is carrying the selection, so they just go ahead and vote for Groome). Not sure if this is a concern with anyone. We're reasonably knowledgable, and I hate to put barriers to participation up. Thanks again for so many people taking part in this. I was hoping for 10 or 12, but we got quite a bit more - over 20 for the Brewer selection.
  22. With the Brewer pick complete, I encourage everyone to stick around for the rest of the top 10 picks. I realize some people won't be interested, or feel like they have researched things, but it's all good fun. Please play along if you can. Thanks.
  23. With the 5th pick in the 2016 draft, the Brewers select Riley Pint, RHP, from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Kansas. We had over 20 votes - so great participation. Perez put up a spirited battle, but by a 2 to 1 margin, the Brewers went with the high powered arm of Pint instead of the raw athleticism of Perez. Rutherford and Ray each got a vote as well. The Oakland Athletics are on the clock. Please get your vote in by EOD on Thursday, June 2.
