  1. Do you mean Eduarqui Fernandez? I can't find any Eduardqui Garcia. Please let me know if you see this. Thanks. Yes! My mistake! Thanks for catching. I think I must have been looking at Eduardo Garcia too when ranking and crossed the wires. Cool. All good. Thanks for the quick reply.

  3. I am extending the deadline for voting until Sunday, August 11, since I won't be able to get to calculating votes until then anyhow.
  4. Has this team met exceptions? No. Are we dead? No. There's a 1/3 of the season left. It's foolish to write a eulogy with so many games ahead of us. Teams go in the tank - or go on a tear - all the time. We are two games out of the division lead, and one game out of the Wild Card. Things can turn very quickly. Will it? No clue. But the fun of it all is that it can. We are not a team of overachievers who have been lucky. We have a lot of a talent - including a lot of guys who - if they get on track - can really make a difference. It will be difficult, but certainly attainable. Guys have to step up, key players need to stay healthy and productive, and we need a strong dose of good luck.
  5. I'd totally grab him if we could. We have several guys on our 40-man roster who likely don't have a future with the club. May as well roll the dice on a guy like Gohara.
  6. MLB Pipeline has just released their updated Top 30 prospect list: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019?list=mil Turang, who they rate as our top prospect, comes in at #81 on their Top 100.
  7. I saw that too, but I did a quick search and found nothing about Lemons and TJ. I'm guessing it's a mistake.
  8. Newly acquired reliever Ray Black is NOT eligible for this poll. He already has more than 45 days of ML experience.
  9. As a note, Dubon is 25.
  10. I'm guessing a reliever. Smith would be really nice.
  11. Trading a God for a God would be fair and fill a need for both teams. Well played.
  12. Grisham is just a fascinating subject. Three years of meh production - and then boom, just raking. His AA production was more of what I envisioned he could be - hitting .260 with a bunch of walks, maybe 15 or so HRs. But he's obliterated those numbers at AAA. As for the 'is it real' question, I'll trust the guys that know him best on this board - such as Toby - who have noted why he is having success. Makes me excited for his future in Milwaukee. I hope we don't deal him unless it's for a really good haul.
  13. Dubon's walk rate is 4.2% this year. Last year it was 1.8%. He can survive walking 5% of the time in the majors, but it means he's going to need to hit .300 to really be good. How much power he ends up showing is another question. At this point, Dubon probably best slots in as a utility guy. Hit .260-.280, plays around the IF, decent defender. That's a nice player to have. Now, would he be better than Arcia if he hit .260-.280 and walked 5% of the time, and hit 10 HR? Probably. But a lot of that is that Arcia just hasn't played that great of a shortstop. If Arcia is an excellent defender, then he's probably your man, even if he's hitting .230 and hitting 15 HR. But when he plays good, but not great defense, he's just not that valuable due to his below average bat. Right now, neither guy is probably that great of an answer at SS. Arcia turns 25 next month, and has three years under his belt. But he just isn't showing the ability to hit very well. Perhaps that will change - but who knows. Dubon has shown some growth over the past couple of years (his power this year is nice to see), but his lack of on base skills will limit him. A lot might depend on if his power spurt is real - or just a product of the PCL (in the PCL, two teams have an average OPS over .900. 10 more have an .800 OPS or better).
  14. I'm guessing we end up with an innings eater pitcher like Mike Leake (maybe not specifically Leake, but someone like him) who won't cost much. Plus a decent reliever for a reasonable price - like we got Swarzak a couple of years ago. The reason is that this team needs more than just a player or two. They need some of their underperforming guys to step up - like last September when Arcia and Woodruff and Burnes and Gio and others really helped the team. So many guys have struggled of late - and we need that to turn it around. Whether that can happen is a big question, but I'm betting that Stearns fortifies the staff a bit with some modest additions, and gambles his guys get their act together for the final 1/3 of the season. All just a guess. But by doing so you don't surrender any of our best young players, such as Turang and Grisham. I should note that whenever I say stuff like this, Stearns usually turns around and does the opposite. So be prepared for a blockbuster!
  15. Here's a mid-season prospect report update: Prospects1500 Top 50 Brewers: https://www.prospects1500.com/nl-central/brewers/milwaukee-brewers-2019-midseason-top-50-prospects/
  16. I think Stearns non-acquisition of a stud pitcher is a little bit of everything. - He's extremely disciplined, and won't overpay in a trade - or FA. Simple as that. He sets prices on things and walks away when it doesn't work. - He has budget constraints. I think it's foolish to think we will spend $200M on a roster. If we have the go ahead to do that - and he hasn't - well that's a different story. But as much as I'd love Greinke in the rotation, he probably doesn't have $35M to add to the annual budget over the next couple of years. - Opportunity has to be there as well. How many 'stud' pitchers have been traded in the past couple of years? How many are available in FA? Not many. Teams know how valuable they are, and they are more aggressive about locking them up longterm. - You gotta have bullets to shoot the gun. We can't trade for a stud pitcher (or hitter) without offering back a compelling return. Stearns used a lot of ammo to acquire Yelich. Stud pitchers just don't get dealt for fringe Top 100 players. Chris Sale required one of the top prospects in the game (plus another Top 50 guy). Quintana required one of the top 10-20 players in the game to acquire. We don't have that kind of ammunition - unless you want to deal Hiura. - Acquiring a stud pitcher does not guarantee you success. It's still a 25 man team. We went 'all in' with Sabathia and Greinke - yet we don't have a WS title. It's more than just one guy. - I feel as if the Brewers have a philosophy that every year they can contend. But due to our lower payroll, that means things have to break our way at times. You need to avoid injuries. You need to have young players step up. You have to hope guys avoid prolonged slumps. It won't always work out. Imagine how different things would be this year if Shaw and Aguilar and Cain were hitting close to what they did last season. We lost Knebel for the year, Jeffress has regressed, and Burnes, who many thought was going to be a very good player - has just imploded. The injuries and slumps this year have been pretty dramatic. In the end, I think Stearns would absolutely love more pitching. And he'd love to have a stud. But circumstances just haven't presented the right opportunity to make such a move.
  17. Nothing wrong with people speculating. That's what this forum is all about.
  18. Kyle Korver is one of the finest 3-point shooters in NBA history. 43% 3-point shooter lifetime. 40% last year. He can hit from anywhere - even with defenders on him. Of course, you want him open, but the guy is pretty unique. However, his defense is bad, and at 38, his skills are fading. Should be a good role player. Perfect for the club.
  19. Nice. Roster is filling out fine. I’ll miss Brogdon a lot, but we’ve done okay adding good role players.
  20. I'm generally skeptical of pushing players who don't have a particularly long track record of success. We've seen guys get locked in for a few months - or even a year - but then just fall apart. But man, Grisham is just ripping the ball apart. He's got four more hits tonight - and hitting over .350 at AAA. I doubt they do anything soon, but I don't doubt he's up in September if he's still producing.
  21. Grisham with four more hits tonight. Man, he's on a tear.
  22. Grisham with four more hits tonight.
  23. No matter what, I think we will see a lot of movement. Hiura and Houser have graduated. Ray, Brown, Erceg, Webb, Stokes, Taylor, Gatewood, Diplan and Ward have all struggled - some badly. We will see a lot of these guys drop (some out of the Top 25). Risers will likely include Grisham, Supak, Feliciano, Rasmussen - plus some younger arms such as Andrews, Lazar and Jankins (just to name a few). Unfortunately, some of the short season guys really haven't played much, so they haven't gotten the chance to make much of an impression. No matter, should be fun.
  24. Friends and Romans and Countrymen, we would like to invite everyone to take part in the 2019 Mid-Season BF.net Fan Community Top 25 Prospects voting. Voting is now open. You need to submit on this thread your top 25 Brewer prospects. Feel free to list any resources or news that you feel might help people with their voting. Voting concludes on Sunday, August 11. You can change your votes at anytime through that date. IMPORTANT NOTES: With more than 130 ABs, Keston Hiura has graduated from prospect status. This means he will NOT be eligible for our latest poll. Recently acquired Ray Black is NOT eligible for for our prospect list as he has more than 45 days of major league experience. RULES 1. Submit your Top 25 prospects, in order, by end of day on August 8, 2019. Put the player's full name to avoid any confusion. I appreciate it you would number them. Also, please list your players from #1 to #25. 2. You MUST submit 25 prospects. If there are only 10 or 15 or whatever, your list will not be included. 3. You are encouraged to go beyond pick #25. This way if a guy you vote for is released or traded, or you list someone twice, or whatever, we can just bump up your next player. 4. Rankings are determined by total points. The top prospect gets 25 points, second prospect gets 24 points, etc. 4. As noted above, if you submit your list and want to change something, just add the change to the thread via the edit function. I'll accept changes up to the deadline. 5. Within a week or so after the deadline, we'll publish the new BF.net Community Top 25.
