I have posted the following in the "External Primer" thread which is always pinned at the top of the Major League board. I was able to find Mike Kusiewicz' secondary numbers easily here -- OK, it took some digging, but here you go... Because I'm a nice guy http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif , and I figure we'd all like to be able to back up our agreements (or disagreements) with Toby from time to time, here's a nice resource for home/road, lefty/righty, situational and ground ball/fly ball statistics for the minor leaguers above rookie ball, provided by CNN/SI.com. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, only home/road, and not the other two ratios, are available for the International League. Hopefully that will be corrected in 2004. But you will see all three ratios detailed for Huntsville, High Desert, and Beloit. The first thing you'll do at this link is click on the league you want (Southern, California, Midwest, etc.) under where it says "Features". Then you'll click on the team you want. Then you'll see the options for "Lefty/Righty", "Home/Road", and "Situational". The ground ball/fly ball info is included within "Lefty/Righty". I'm sure this will entertain some of you for hours on end during long, cold winter nights.... sportsillustrated.cnn.com...ll/minors/

Also MLB.com shows Mike Kusiewicz on the Indy roster. Looks like some decent numbers for the lefthanded pitcher. Thanks again, rpms6. Kusiewicz certainly has the makings of a guy who will be helpful to Indy, and in the Brewers' world of situational lefty's (a very tiny world), should sneak into the mix at some point. As far as 2003 goes, he certainly was effective vs. RH batters as well -- nice job, Doug... In 2003 with Sacramento (A's): vs. LH batters -- 8 hits allowed, all singles, in 36 AB's (.222); 3 BB / 9 K, 14 ground ball outs, 4 fly ball outs vs RH batters -- 11 hits allowed in 51 AB's (.216), three of the 11 hits doubles, 7 BB / 8 K, 21 ground ball outs, 14 fly ball outs

There may not be an official Brewer summer team presence in Venezuela and the Dominican any longer, and there may not be a high-fangled Brewer "academy" in Latin America, but new names continue to be added to the Arizona roster. The Brewers' site lists some of the specifics, but not country of origin. We'll learn more around media guide time in the spring.... As mentioned earlier in Baseball America, Fredy (that's one "D", apparently) De La Cruz is a 6'2", 180 lb. infielder, bats and throws right. Born 10/17/85, 18 years old. Victor Arias is a 6'4", 180 lb. RHP. Born 1/1/84, he'll turn 20 in a couple of weeks. Erickson Pedro Volcan (great name -- do we call him Eric, Pedro, or Spock? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif ) is a 6'1", 185 lb. RHP, born 6/10/86. He'll still be just 17 when camp opens.

Cruz shows up on the High Desert roster. He did go to Huntsville, right? Now all set. Thanks for catching that for us. At least we're still weeks ahead of the Brewers' own site http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

You can click on Brewerfan's wonderfully filterable and sortable Player Index Page now to see the latest organizational breakdown: www.brewerfan.net/ViewPlayerIndex.do By some time tomorrow, someone among the "staff" will process the transactions for Brewerfan's transacton data base as well.

The pre-Rule 5 Off-Season Transaction thread has been closed. You can always review it here: pub123.ezboard.com/fbrewe...mp;stop=40 Now that the Rule 5 draft is complete, the Brewers have re-assigned several players within the system who were eligible to be picked in either the major league (Indy) or minor league (Huntsville) phase, according to mlb.com. This isn?t necessarily a guarantee that this is where these players will open the regular season this spring, but it can be an indication, for sure. One player who was not Rule 5 eligible was also moved, that being J.J. Hardy (from Huntsville to Indianapolis). The Brewers? own site does not reflect these changes as of yet. Brewerfan?s rosters via the Player Index Page will be adjusted Thursday afternoon, so you?ll be able to review who currently resides where. From Indianapolis to Huntsville: LHP Chad Petty RHP David Nolasco 1B Brandon Gemoll IF Chris Barnwell 2B Alejandro Machado IF Enrique Cruz 1B/3B/C Froilan Villanueva OF Daryl Clark OF Johnny Raburn OF Chris Morris OF Jason Belcher (Petty, Villanueva, Raburn, Morris and Belcher did not see AA Huntsville in 2003.) From Indianapolis to Beloit: SS Gilberto Acosta (Acosta starred at the Arizona Rookie League level in 2003.) From Huntsville to Indianapolis: J.J. Hardy (Hardy's first visit to AAA...) From Huntsville to High Desert: LHP Justin Gordon RHP Ricardo Gomez RHP Judd Richardson RHP David Bradley 2B/OF Ralph Santana OF Mario Mendez (This would be Richardson?s and Mendez' first taste of high-A; Gomez and Bradley are new to the organization.) The new issue of BA shows that the Brewers resigned catcher Alex Delgado and signed an outfielder by the name of Freddy de la Cruz. I assume de la Cruz is on the AZ Brewers roster. BA also shows Jacob Cruz signing with the Reds. He shows up on MLB.com's Louisville roster as well. Thanks for the transaction heads-up as of late, rpms6. Nice to know there's another "wire" nut out there besides yours truly. When Jacob Cruz' name was placed on the Brewers' mlb.com Indy roster and then removed shortly thereafter, we inquired to our friends with the Crew. The comment was they couldn't comment at this time, so something certainly fell through with that signing and it's been removed from the Brewerfan transaction wire. The Alex Delgado signing makes a lot of sense. A Delgado-Chris Coste-Mark Johnson AAA tag-team isn't embarassing in the least, with one of the three a possible Chad Moeller backup. Kade Johnson needs to catch in Huntsville four of five nights and show something at the bat through April and May at the least. And yeah, Freddy de la Cruz is probably a 16-18 year old.

It's funny you mention Matt Parker -- noticed on the home page he turns 25 today. I contended last June in the thread linked below that the only Brewer organization starter to handle High Desert conditions better than Parker was Ben Hendrickson. I've been thinking with the recent pitcher projections that this has to be the year that Matt and Ryan Miller are rewarded with time in AAA Indy to start the season. Those two have been organizational soldiers who have also put up much better than decent numbers, Parker since his acquisition in the Vina trade -- it'd be pretty unfair to see either back in Huntsville in 2004. pub123.ezboard.com/fbrewe...=128.topic

Miscellaneous updates: LHP Wayne Franklin made his third Venezuelan League start; four scoreless innings to begin, but then a blow-up in the 5th -- final line: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 0 BB, 4 K, 5 R, 3 ER. Still, in 15 IP, his K/BB ratio is 15-to-1, and his ERA is 2.40. RHP Pedro Liriano after nine brief Dominican League appearances: 8.2 IP, 9.34 ERA, 12 H, 6 BB, 6 K RHP Leo Estrella also ineffective in six Dominican appearances: 5 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K. IF Enrique Cruz hasn't appeared in a Dominican game in a few weeks -- stuck at 22 AB's. Others included here in box scores from Thursday's action -- as usual, links to season-to-date updates for all players are sprinkled throughout this thread; we'll re-link if someone's seasonal numbers are worth noting again... Via Jamey Newberg's Texas Ranger fansite: Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers have lost scout John Poloni to the Brewers, who hired him as a national crosschecker. Poloni was the scout who, when with Oakland, recommended that Grady Fuson draft Tim Hudson. He was also once a lefthander in the Ranger system, traded to Boston to get Fergie Jenkins back in Texas in 1978. Among the players that Poloni recommended as a Ranger scout was Florida State righthander Marc LaMacchia, the interesting 21st-rounder that Texas signed this summer.

Despite taking the loss in today's box score, RHP Francisco Campos leads the league in ERA, IP, and wins, and is 2nd in K's. Also, it seems Matt Childers remains state-side as well. For updates on any of the others mentioned earlier in this thread, simply look back and click, as appropriate season-to-date links to the Chris Coste's of the system, etc., are provided among many of the earlier posts.

Time to kick off a new thread to replace what had become the somewhat cumbersome initial off-season link report thread -- mainly Brewerfan's catch-all thread of notes and stories pertaining to the minor leaguers. This format also allows for easy archiving in the future. Most of you are all caught up on it, but here's the initial, and now locked, off-season link report thread: pub123.ezboard.com/fbrewe...mp;stop=40 Adam McCalvy of the Brewers' mlb.com site updates us on Luis Martinez: milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com...p;c_id=mil We'll also create a new, and thus, more manageable, off-season transaction thread at one of the next opportunites.

(last November) the Brewers also picked up infielder Enrique Cruz in the Rule 5 draft, then made the unorthodox move of signing him to a two-year extension in June. Cruz remains the only Brewer signed past 2004. That contract would likely preclude anyone from taking him on. The Brewers might not agree to take him back if offered. I'd say Enrique's agent did an outstanding job working out that agreement last season, as detailed in this link: www.jsonline.com/sports/b...145494.asp

Rotoworld: Wayne Franklin struck out seven in 5 2/3 scoreless innings for Magallanes of the Venezuelan Winter League yesterday. Even though he threw 194 2/3 innings for the Brewers last season, Franklin decided to pitch this winter and has allowed one run in 10 2/3 innings in his first two starts. The left-hander's poor finish in 2003 (0-3, 7.99 ERA in September) should mean that he won't be guaranteed a spot in Milwaukee's rotation in 2004.

It's likely as noted in the Transaction thread that infielder Matt Erickson, coming off a pretty incredible season with AAA Albuquerque (Marlins), has signed with the Brewers in a deal yet to be formally announced. He's toiling in Mexico, and you can view all his 2003 numbers here: www.baseballamerica.com/c...ckson%2C+m
