  1. Brinson would never be included in a trade like this unless Attanasio fell off his rocker (would just assume at this point that he would have to be responsible for going over Stearns head in this type of trade). At absolute best Verlander probably has a negative value of 13 million and Kinsler probably has a positive value of about 18.5 million. Throw in 30 million and that bring the value surrendered by Detroit at 35.5 million. Brinson's name should never even enter the conversation as his surplus value likely exceeds 60 million. If Verlander and Kinsler performances are projected on the high side over the rest of their contracts...and Verlander does not require the 2020 year to be guaranteed (which won't happen), a reasonable deal would be something like Verlander/Kinsler/30 million in exchange for Brandon Woodruff, Jonathan Villar, Ryan Cordell. I've projected Villar as a 1 WAR player per season over the next three years and then applied the 40/60/80 arbitration guideline which puts his surplus value at about +10.5 million. If a prospect is included instead of him it would be someone like Trent Clark, Lucas Erceg or Phil Bickford. But personally I would value Verlander at -40.5 million in surplus value and Kinsler as a +13.8 million in surplus value. Adding 30 million to that puts it at a total of +3.3 million which is somewhere between a "role player" prospect and a "fringe prospect." Easy to say that I would have zero interest in Verlander. To get Verlander, upper level prospect(s) WILL be involved. Enough teams are in on him now, presumably and reportedly (Dodgers too now, maybe Nats), that someone will overpay to get better starting pitching for the rest of season and playoffs. I can't see the Brewers being in the mix anymore... too many teams in the mix, price too high in prospects.
  2. If DS can be as good at GM as TT, I'll take that for the next decade..... playoffs every year and a championship.
  3. Just get Kinsler for bit prospects now; we have a big question mark at 2B too. Then we can look at pitching.
  4. Brewers are off the next two Mondays, which makes each ideal times to meet together with staff, scouts, etc. and trade. The 24th is ideal because it would bolster our team before tough opponents (Nats, Cubs). The 31st would be ideal to let time play against the sellers, hopefully lowering prices. Of course, it could be neither day or somewhere in between, but my guess is that they get something moving tomorrow (24th) for a starter. You?
  5. Didn't BA say he would shave his head if the Brewers got a game within the wild card?
  6. Verlander is still a top of rotation pitcher.... Brinson is not a guaranteed above avg major leaguer.
  7. Too much? How about Fulmer instead of Kinsler?
  8. Would Verlander/Kinsler and 30 million for Brinson/Villar/Clark get it done?
  9. It means DS has wiggle room to add big contracts..... unlike many other small market teams.
  10. Ya know, would a trade of Villar for Kinsler be that out of the realm of possibility? Villar has 4 years of control, is cheaper, has played better recently, and could be a bounce back candidate. Kinsler would provide Detroit salary relief and would make them younger and faster. Kinsler gives Milwaukee a veteran presence and polished bat. He hit 29 HRs last year, strikes out much less than Villar, walks at a good clip, and allows the Brewers to have a good bridge to younger hOmegrown 2B in 2019. He hits lefties well. He and Sogard could be a good tandem at 2B for a couple of seasons.
  11. And play him where? Once Braunfels is back the outfield is pretty much set and you're having o e of Phillips and Brinson on the bench. Now obviously Braunfels will probably miss more time but I'm not a fan of having him sit for a few days. Let him play everyday I CS until there's a more permanent spot open. You know Braun won't play everyday. Phillips isn't playing daily and likely will sit vs lefties. Perez has struggled. It's late July..... Brinson has a bunch of at bats this year already. He will learn more in a pennant drive playing half as much. He's also very talented. Also, I would like Broxton up too for base stealing and defense purposes in sept., if not sooner when trades are made and the pitching staff is at 12 pitchers.
  12. 2.70 ERA in last 4 post All Star breaks....
  13. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/nl-notes-broxton-marlins-garcia-reed-dodgers.html Brinson needs to be up, as well.
  14. Kinsler .844 OPS vs lefties???! Huge upgrade over Villar..
  15. 2014 was the worst...
  16. Sogard is back!
  17. Johnbriggs is right, though, that our GM does lack deadline deal experience to a certain extent! You may disagree with him on certain points and I do too, but DS hasn't ever been lead dog in a deadline buyer deal. The reflective, calculating position can take a backseat when GMs want an answer NOW and time to make wise, quick decisions are needed. That being said, DS gets an A or A+ for his job With the Brewers thus far.... simply amazing.
  18. They had one 7 game losing streak and never lost more than 3 in a row at any other point in the season. Sorry.. 2006 CArds- two eight game losing streaks and one 7 game losing streak in Sept....83 wins, World Champs
  19. Take your bike off the bandwagon too. Didn't the champion 2011 Cardinals have three 8 game losing streaks? Feel sad and mad, but really.... Hardly the bandwagon fan. Look for me behind the Brewers dugout in DC Tuesday night. Wearing which cap? With or without Lance Armstrong?
  20. Really? Calvin and Hobbes..... real fake.
  21. Skipped over it before..... the video from the MLB article has Justice saying that he'd be surprised if the Brewers didn't do something BIG. He says Attanasio is THE most aggressive owner, will do whatever DS wants to do, including trade prospects and add salary. Not news there, but what a difference from beginning of season when he wasn't concerned about wins and losses.
  22. Not buying that they are looking to add big...if they were, they'd have done something by now..the longer it goes, the higher the prices go up and the less likely they do something. I wish they would add big, but it doesn't appear that it's going to happen sadly enough. I'd love to see a haul of verlander, Wilson AND Gray..and I think it can be done without giving up the farm, just by taking on Verlander's contract. Verlander has stated in the past he is 'too old to be part of a rebuilding process.' He just bought a house in California, with his fiancee Kate Upton. There is basically zero chance that Verlander waives his NTC and gives up his 10/5 rights to come to Milwaukee. No way zero chance..... maybe 5% Wouldn't Milwaukee have this knowledge of Verlander's wants already? Especially after the Lucroy botch, wouldn't Verlander's wants be FACT in the Brewers front office? Nutso if it isn't. Otherwise, it is a no excuse complete waste of precious time. So I gather three bits here..... either we are completely foolish trying to work together a great deal since he probably waives his no trade clause in our face or we already know he will waive his no trade (and perhaps we picked up his 2020 option) and we are working on a prospect/$ package. Or Then again we could be completely uninterested, showing some fakeinterest just to jack up the asking price for the Cubs and the press has bought it.
  23. Their roster is better than the Brewers, no doubt, right now. Who in their right mind can argue against that? They won about 120 games last year with most of these key pieces? Now, that being said, I truly believe that we can have a better roster by season's end if most of these happen..... We pick up a top of rotation starter Anderson and Nelson perform with sub 4 ERA in second half Knebel is throwing similar and doesn't get hurt Braun can be Braun and be healthy. A set up man/ closer is added. We are fluid with adding young pitchers ( Burnes, Hader, Ortiz, Woodruff) to staff and bullpen.... see who can stay up here. Brinson is brought up.... everyday, our OF, whoever is in there, is brimming with talent. No more we gotta play Perez or Broxton everyday in the outfield. Our everyday lineup is a version of themselves from the first half, even if we regress a bit overall. So overview.. We need a top arm in the pen and especially the rotation. Emotionally, we all need a boost, as well. Our young guns have to be the real deal and they need to be brought up and play.... more of them... sooner rather than Sept. They have to help produce in the pen, rotation, and lineup. It's asking a lot early in their careers. Braun has to play. He has to be healthy. Our best player over the last decade has to be on that MVP level to carry an inexperienced lineup here on out.
