  1. It's funny that this topic comes up now during a rebuild. Fans want to win, of course, and if it isn't likely to happen here for a while..... "hey, I'll just wear my Red Sox and Cubs gear, and don't judge me because I still love my Brewers when they are winning."
  2. AMEN! Wear whatever hat you want, of course. What do I care. Yet, you are what you are, and that would be a supporter of other teams, who by the way are trying to beat our beloved small market team. Yeaaa other teams!
  3. Sounds like a typical front runner... Royals = recent WS and playoffs Packers = decade of winning
  4. They will tell Garza he's cut by mail.... or just tell him the Milwaukee plane leaves at a later time. No need to ruffle his feathers again.
  5. They are doing so well, and their ultimate goal is to hit liner outs to CF! Can't wait until they actually start trying!
  6. If National and American Leagues were still separate (no interleague), I could see wearing another cap of the opposing league team. Now, there is no excuse.
  7. I'm really more baffled than anything. Jenkins was a good, not great, player on bad and really bad teams. Way too many of his homers were when the Brewers were down by 6 in the 8th when the pitchers just didn't want to walk anybody. He struck out waaaay too many times with runners in scoring position, especially on third, in clutch situations. I'm glad that you reminded me that Simmons had better stats with the Cards. That plays a role, no doubt. Longevity with the organization looks to be a key component with the Walk of Fame, it seems. It must be, considering... Don Money, Gantner, Gorman > Simmons, Vuch, Sutton (his role was huge in 82, as well.... there is no 82 without him). Also, Fingers meant a lot to the 81 and 82 teams, two playoff teams. Without him, there is no playoffs EITHER year, I'd argue. Yet, he is a relief pitcher first of all. He also spent most of his brilliant career elsewhere, winning championships with the A's. Credit him though, he did wonders in Milwaukee for a much shorter period of time. That is where it starts getting foggy and hazy for me...... How can Fingers be celebrated so much in Milwaukee, # retired and all that, while other key cogs here with impressive overall careers (HOF Don Sutton, Simmons, Vuch) are not even on the Brewers Walk of Fame. Has time forgotten how good these guys were? Seems inconsistent.
  8. Fingers number retired vs. Vuc not even in the Walk of Fame Burdette JUST NOW getting in the lower end Wall of Honor vs. Gorman and his .229 lifetime average in the notch up Walk of Fame years ago. ??????????
  9. From MJS article.... Several questions come to mind with this..... Why wasn't Burdette in with the other few dozen selected a few years back? Wasn't the Wall of Honor based solely on stats? Counsell is in, but Burdette has to wait a few years? Craziness! Somebody help me out here. Also, no surprise that no one was selected to Walk of Fame..... many years went without an inductee. Yet, how are Jenkins and Del Crandle leading the voting? How do they even mildly compare to Pete Vuchovic (82 Cy Young Winner) and Ted Simmons (borderline HOF type catcher) who are not in. Gorman was inducted early on for his HR king and Brewer persona (Gantner too) and his lifetime avg. is .229!!! Don Money is in? Fingers is on every Wall and Walk, number retired, and how many actual innings did he pitch in Milwaukee? His first was stellar (81' Cy Young AND MVP.... what were those voters drinking?), but he was hurt late in 82 and on and off the next few seasons, just a shell of himself. Huge inconsistencies! Crandall and Jenkins leading the voting?
  10. Nope. Sure fans came early and camped out. Yet the team did not hype the event by providing t-shirts, coffee, hot dogs, donuts, soda, and Brewers alumni appearances. The MJS cited the Brewers concerns for fan safety in the cold weather and a focus on online sales as the reason for the change.
  11. I really don't know why they wouldn't hype this up more rather than tearing it down. Also, did anyone notice that the Brewers did not put out single game ticket prices until tickets went on sale at 9 today? Kind of annoying for someone trying to frugally plan games ahead of time. Another change from previous years.....
  12. So true! The minor league side is like watching practice for a high school baseball team, although a lot of mesh netting prevented good views of some areas. My wife and I actually walked into Maryvale Park (MLB) for practice WITH a bunch of Brewers minor leaguers.... side by side, same entrance. Lara was one of them. The MLB team used a dozen or so minor league base runners during fielding drills. Only a dozen to two dozen fans were there. Fiers, Braun, Gomez, Parra, Lucroy, and others talked to the fans. I was tossed a ball from Parra as he jogged in from the outfield to get his swings in. We sat front row down the line, moved to the back row shaded areas if too hot, and walked down by the dugout too. THE NO DOUBT, MOST UNDERRATED BREWERS EXPERIENCE.......... no hype for this whatsover compared to Brewers On Deck, Arctic Tailgate, Fantasy Camp, etc. If you can get to Maryvale this year, visit a practice. It is basically a typical batting practice + fielding drills + interaction with players + sitting in 80 degree weather + no cost. I cannot imagine that this type of free access will be common in the future. Yes, there was a cop or two on hand, along with a few "ushers", but I really don't know if the risk/reward is anywhere credible for the team to allow this kind of access to a few hundred fans each year.
  13. Yep, you answered your own question there! Ha, you're probably right.... do you know the story/deal?
  14. Yes, this seems to come up every year. If you're just driving to and from the games, things are fine. It's just not an area I'd want to be walking around as a tourist, especially at night. But during daytime at the park, things are perfectly fine. Visited in Spring of 2015 for ST....... Nice facilities, love the berm in the OF. Yet, why oh why a ballpark was put here, I'll never know. The Brewers must have gotten a very good deal on land/taxes etc. Really, besides the game, there is no hotels, restaurants, attractions in walking distance. Polar opposite of the Cubs new facility in Mesa.
  15. We all have our rotten fans, no doubt. Not debating that. Cubs fans are not liked by multiple fan bases (Cards, Sox, Brewers, Reds) for the same reasons. Packer/Badger fans are more known for their hospitality and overall too friendliness. Let's not compare apples with rotten oranges.
  16. They are good fans in many ways.... travel well, vocal, pay more than most fan bases for tickets. They, in general, however, are pretty rotten, entitled, big city, loud-mouthed human beings. That is where it starts and ends with me. I am proud of Packers fans when they often travel well and give our team a road advantage, and I am upset when Cubs fans do the same at Miller Park. I would love for season ticket holders to take this seriously and go to Cubs games or sell to their neighbors, family members, co-workers who are Brewers fans. I would like to see the Brewers cater to Brewers season ticket holders and fans in some way to get them in the park, in the best seats. I'd like to see loyal group leaders who take multiple groups to games be given a deal to get more Brewers fans in the stadium. I like to have money too, but common'...... this is our team we are talkin about.
  17. If you go, go to Brewers practice in Maryvale. It is better than the game. Chat with the Brewers.
  18. So........ we're good. All is well with the Cubs/Miller Park situation? Season ticket holders, our best fans like Patrick, get their money. Cubs fans get the best seats in the ballpark, just what they want. The Brewers management get a full house, mucho dollars coming in. Man, what was I thinking?
  19. Brewers fans, this year, are not paying top dollar on StubHub for Cubs-Brewers games. We all know that and let's not pretend that is the case. You know. I know. Cubs Spring Training games are going for ridiculous amounts on the secondary market so let's be real here. Is it that outrageous of me to expect our best fans (and from other posts of yours I know that's you, tmwiese55) to sell Brewers/Cubs tickets to Brewers fans? Don't the Packers expect/promote fans to sell Packers tickets to other Packers fans? Isn't it the same thing?
  20. I asked. You told. I Timothy 6:10
  21. Offer Lucroy like deals to Arcia, Broxton, Santana..... no real downside there. The cash we'd be out is relatively low.
  22. Nate is awesome! rickh....I was at every home game of the 82 playoffs and WS and all but one of the 2008 and 2011 home post season games. Was there when Molitor's streak was broken and when Yount got his 3000th hit. Was there when Mike Caldwell pitched 9 shutout innings to give Ron Guidry his first loss in 1978 (13-1). I have been to spring training about a dozen times (and we attend nothing but Brewer games when we are down there). I've been posting on this site pretty much since it's origins (when it was pretty bare bones and brownish in color if I remember correctly?) I have been a season ticket holder for the last 25+ years including some pretty brutal years when I wouldn't have been able to give tickets away (those were the years people really questioned why I kept buying season tickets)........... but I guess if you want to think that I'm somehow not a "true Brewer Fan" because I sell those tickets, then so be it. Again, I believe those tickets on StubHub are available to any fan that wishes to purchase them. I have tremendous respect for Brewers fans, especially season ticket holders. They are the lifeblood of the team, paying big $, supporting, following Brewers baseball. You should be commended, no doubt. I just don't get it. Why wouldn't you want to fill your seats with Brewers fans? Wouldn't that make logical sense? You no doubt love the team and want to support them. You know what those games against the Cubs are like, especially the last two seasons. Fill me in..... Respectfully....
  23. [sarcasm]Yes, you are right, for Cubs games that I can not go to, I should just give away or sell my tickets at face value to a Brewer fan rather than sell them at 3 or 4 times their face value on StubHub. That would be the smart thing to do[/sarcasm] So, on one hand, you can't understand why season ticket holders would pay so much for their tickets, but on the other hand you are going to chastise them for trying to recoup some of the cost of the season tickets because of who they sell them to? When I put tickets on StubHub, anyone can buy them. If Brewer fans are not willing to buy them for the price I posted, that's not my problem. Last year I had to sell 6 games (out of 20) that we could not attend. Two of them were Cub games. With the season ticket discount I already get (25%) and the proceeds from those ticket sales, I ended up paying 67% of the face value for the remaining 14 games that we went to. If I add to that $50 in food vouchers I received for paying for my tickets early and certain ssh days when concessions are 25% off for season ticket holders, it brings it down to about 60%. With that pricing along with all the other perks mentioned in this topic, I don't think I'm really paying that big of a premium for being a season ticket holder. Oh..I'm also not including the free game they throw in there every year (so...less than 60% of face value). Selling extra tickets to Brewers fans at a loss or profit would be my choice option. Being frugal and selling to the enemy are two drastically different things. When the Cubs meet the Brewers in the NLCS in the near future, be sure to write about how much $ you saved on season tickets by selling a game or two of those. [sarcasm]That would go over well.[/sarcasm]
  24. I did not know this. That's a pretty sweet perk. We're not likely to trade in our season tickets for it, but for $10 I'd consider joining anyway. A different game is selected each month. I believe two Friday nights have been included this year. The OTBA has their own website and facebook page, if interested.
  25. More like possible 90% of the time....
