  6. I love the people who designed and built Camden Yards. It is a shrine to baseball. I saw Cal Ripken hit a home run during the All-Star Game there. And I didn't pay a thing for the ticket. In fact, I had no ticket. http://www.johnnyroadtrip.com/cities/baltimore/images/camdenyards_pic.jpg The third archway on the right. That is the ideal place to quickly climb the fence and disappear into the Camden crowd. Trust me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

  10. By the way. Why are the Cubs winning so much? Any answers? Can they keep playing .750+ ball?

  12. Sheets was pitching well. It was a pitcher's duel. My question is: would Sheets have been injured there if Estrada had just caught the foul ball and not forced Sheets to throw his 9th and 10th pitches to Todd Helton?
  13. It's L.A. apathy at its finest... I agree that people leave games early. But I really don't think it is apathy so much as fear of traffic. I could be wrong, but people in LA have a paranoia of being immobilized in their cars. http://www.johnnyjet.com/images/PicForNewsletterDodgerStadiumAug2005ParkingLot.JPG
  14. Oh yeah. Don't sit in the outfield bleachers during a day game in the summer. It will kill you. Ask Pogokat. But Dodger Stadium is cool. Go on any random Tuesday night game, sit in the lower part of the backstop part of the stadium. (Pogokat is right about something else - the stadium is segmented in a way that doesn't allow you to move from area to area. If you're in the outfield, you're stuck in the boonies. If you're in the upper-seating area, you're stuck in the nosebleeds.) I can't stress this enough: get tickets to the lower level! You can move around behind home plate, you're in the shade, and you won't be able to find a bad seat. Dodger stadium is great when you know what you're doing... And beware of traffic.
  15. The X-Rays were negative - which is good. And Billy Hall is a stud, of course. Let's hope it is a best case two week injury. Given the timing of the All-Star break, it could be not-so-bad. Heal, Billy, heal! http://www.nyu.edu/classes/keefer/therapy/heal.jpeg http://www.freewebs.com/barleespringerspups/healing%20hands.JPG
  16. I've been to Dodger Stadium several times. I saw all three Brewers games there this year. 1: Fans don't show up until third inning - not a myth 2: Fans leave after the 7th - also not a myth. These two things are true. But only because of traffic. You see, the same people who engineered the former Brooklyn (Trolley) Dodgers' move to Los Angeles, also placed the new stadium in a ravine - the worst possible place to have a lot of cars going into and coming out of. So the poor people of LA are so caught up in traffic, or caught up in the fear of traffic, they miss large portions of the game. I recommend avoiding the traffic altogether by going early enough to see batting practice. If you insist on going into the stadium just before start time, try Riverside Dr. instead of the 5 freeway. Or, coming down the 110 South from the Pasadena area is a fast way into the stadium during heavy traffic periods. (4-8 PM is rush 'hour') Avoid the 101 freeway. As for tailgaiting, no. But there is plenty of parking lot loitering before the games, if ya know what I mean. 3: Very few fans I saw there actually watched much of the game - they were too busy "being there". 4: $6 hot dogs tasted like garbage. As for being there, there is nothing wrong with that. Dodger fans can be some of the best around. They can also be awful. I've met some great fans there, and had a fantastic time. The DodgerDogs pale in comparison to Usinger's. It's true. 5: Flat beer. 6: Fans constantly file in and out - not just during break between innings, but ALL THE TIME. Makes watching the game somewhat difficult. LA is just not a beer town for some reason. Again, there are good and bad fans everywhere. If I were you, pay the extra money for something in the lower seats. There isn't a bad seat in the lower level. If you want all-you-can-eat, then go out to the right field seats. 7: Not a bad stadium, historically relevant but not really interesting. Well, since the Dodgers have now played more games at Dodger stadium than they did at Ebbet's Field, one could say that the stadium is relevent both historically and currently. I found it very interesting.

  18. Do you mean Rodney Dangerfield? http://i18.tinypic.com/6bdzyx2.gif http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070630/capt.9b0401c342db42a7a8c926b1d3e43833.brewers_cubs_baseball_cxc117.jpg
  19. Then it sure would be nice to get out of town with a series win. I bet that percentage goes up even more... And the Cubs bullpen should be shreaded right about now. This is great - especially since the Cubs have seven straight road games before the break. The more we can chew on their bullpen, the better it will be for our us.
  20. Did you notice that the guy first stole the half full beer from a Brewers fan before purposefully dumping it on his friend? Later replays of the incident showed him trying to purchase another beer for the Brewer fan but by that point, the beer vendors were closed. Thats the 'college football' atmosphere at Wrigley which Grace loves sooooo much. (Did you notice Matt V saying Hardy broke his leg last year?)

  22. Look how excited the Cubs were to beat the Brewers in one game, to get to .500, and to pull within 6.5 games of the Brewers' lead. Who has the 'little brother' complex?
  23. Awesome baseball race. Thanks Russ!
  24. How about a rational exuberance thread? Aren't the Brewers in first place in late June, two handfuls of games above five hundred? I mean, yee haw!
  25. Sixth Sense is a joke on that list. So is Sophie's Choice, Lord of the Rings, The Shawshank Redemption and Spartacus. Intolerance is intolerable. I will bet you my favorite bobblehead that you can't sit through it. I think AFI was just uncomfortable with Birth of a Nation - which is a completely superior film in every way - despite the racism. Toy Story, Do the Right Thing, Sunrise, Nashville, The General, and The Last Picture Show all solidly belong there. Sullivan's Travels and 12 Angry Men are good sentimental picks. There is no way Saving Private Ryan is a better movie than Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Stagecoach... Meh. The Searchers is far better. Mose knows. Caddyshack, funny as it may or may not be, doesn't belong in this discussion. Groundhog Day is infinitely superior.. As for Dr. Zhivago, it is huge but boring. Not Lean's best work. Giant can go (because Shane is there) but Dances With Wolves is worthy. Forget Fantasia, but The Manchurian Candidate is important. So is Fargo, which I think will have to be added back to the list again some day. As for the list fallers, Ben Hur, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid can all just fall off the list as far as I'm concerned. The Deer Hunter and Duck Soup too for all I care. Boring movies. Where is Badlands? And I agree about Alien. That is a kickass movie tarnished by the franchise which followed it.
