  1. You can tell Murphy really wants this one. Only 76 pitches but with his reputation for struggles the 3rd time around Murphy is taking no chances on another inning for Sproat.
  2. It’s something they’ve gotta get better at for sure. Less aggressive in some situations, more aggressive in others. They’re a very analytical team, so this is something I would guess they are looking at closely and figuring out how they will improve over time. Ergo, I think their ranking will rise over time, but right now we are still in the very early stages of this.
  3. Sprout usually looks so good until he doesn’t. Would love to see him break that trend today.
  4. It’s the Cardinals, so you can guarantee we are going to get some old school petty revenge at some point for Church getting hit.
  5. That trade didn’t make much sense at the time and looks much worse now. I can forgive the fact that no one could have seen Wiemer start to figure it out, although let’s be honest, if he was on the roster, he would have been playing a lot for us the last 6 weeks. Junis was good at the time we traded him and has continued to be nothing but good since.
  6. Unless you’re Oklahoma City. I think they’re going to roll to another title.
  7. I’m not saying we’re out of the division by any means. I’m just saying if the objective this season ends up being — let’s be in the top 6 — that’s okay.
  8. Gotta catch the Reds and the other division teams behind the Cubs before we can worry about the Cubs. Start working our way back in playoff position first. The division may not end up being in the cards this year.
  9. We do not look like the class of the division this year.
  10. I’d be fine with Black getting some starts at 1st versus RHP. Bauers goes on for some nice stretches from time to time but for the most part he’s still the same guy he’s always been.
  11. I never understood the contempt for Lucroy over the whole trade deadline debacle in 2016. Cleveland was on his no-trade clause list and he had every contractual right to deny a trade there. Sounds like if he would have been approached in a more professional and open manner by Stearns about it, the trade might have happened.
  12. I like Mitchell, a lot. I think his speed and defense is a great fit for what we do, and I think he’s going to give us more power than what we’ve seen so far this year. If he could get that K rate down to the 25-27% range, I think he could be an All-Star level player. As it is, if he stays heathy and plays a full season, I still think he’ll be a 2.5-3 WAR type player. I think it’s fair to point out that if you can’t get your K rate to a manageable level, it can derail a career quickly like it did for Keon Broxton and Keston Hiura, who were very good at other things but just couldn’t get their K rates under control. Mike Cameron is a good comp but he was 24.1% for his career. If Garrett could get to that he’d be an amazing player and I’d love to see it.
  13. https://x.com/CaseyJ_516/status/2050918103668638037/video/1?s=46
  14. This game for me was lost today when Frelick came up with 1 out and two runners in scoring position and promptly popped up. We need better out of Sal. That’s one of the main things holding the offense back.
  15. 15 years from now we may have a thread about the Devin Williams trade tree.
  16. At least the worst we will have gone is 18-15 without Chourio and Vaughn and Quinn. I’ll take it.
  17. When Joey Ortiz gets an RBI groundout, we are very, very proud.
  18. Yeah Abrams is not a K machine at all, 19.4% for his career. For comparison Yelich is 22.1% for his career and Turang is 20.3%.
  19. It seems like this umpire has decided, “haha, they can’t do anything about it, so I’m just going to call the zone like I would have used to call it for them now.”
  20. I think they do need some common sense ground rules. I wouldn’t go this far, though. A bases loaded 3-2 pitch in the 4th inning could end up being far more impactful than anything in the late innings.
  21. Now this ump is going to royally suck the rest of the day and there’s nothing we are going to be able to do about it because we went after 2 calls he actually got right.
  22. Lol, then we finally don’t have a challenge for when we would have won.
  23. I think probably the most obnoxious thing is that I’ve having to come to terms with the fact that perhaps MLB umpires are not as terrible as I suspected they were. At least, they know the zone much better than our players apparently do.
