    Look, I'm not going to say the Brewers shouldn't be proud of the season they've had with the hand they've been dealt. They absolutely should. With that said, every prospective NL playoff team has to be licking their chops at the idea of drawing us for a playoff matchup. I cannot think of a more desirable matchup on paper for any team than drawing us. There isn't a hitter in our lineup to be feared or a starting pitcher in our rotation that looks daunting. If we can win one playoff series, it'll be a great accomplishment.

    It just sucks that this deadline was just a bad fit for us, really. It was totally favored to sellers, but it was hard to sell 7 games up. But, hard to buy when you know you're not at full strength and won't be, so all you can really do is try not to weaken yourself for next year while still giving yourself a chance this year. Next year looks fun, ideally with : - Healthy post-surgery Yelich - Healthy Devin - Healthy Woodruff - Healthy (at some point) Gasser - Chourio full breakout? I mean who am I kidding, most of these guys will end up not healthy anyway plus others I haven't even thought of yet, but on paper we should be even better.

    I'd be curious to know how many people here really felt Wiemer was worth nothing 2 days ago and how many just feel that way now to make themselves feel better about this deal. I mean if an underwhelming 2023 meant Wiemer was useless, we may as well have traded Turang for a rental last year. Wiemer wasn't a finished product either, and the glove always was going to give him some kind of floor at this level. Also, wherever Wiemer was at in our OF pecking order was meaningless in regard to his trade value. Value is value. It's not like we were going to lose him if we didn't deal him before the end of the season. Had he improved, he would have moved up. Only Yelich and Chourio have locked down spots in this OF whenever healthy.

    That's awfully misleading, considering his first 2 years his cap hits were 7M or less, and he only has a total of 3 years in the entirety of his contract where his cap number exceeds 48M. In '28 and '29 it doesn't exceed 35M. Relative to today's market he's definitely signed on a huge discount. They're cap hits that they'll never see because they'll be restructured, but they're only that high because the Chiefs have already benefitted from the most cap friendly years on the deal. Just like the Lions aren't going to have a 70M cap hit on Goff and the Packers aren't going to have a 74M cap hit on Love because both will be restructured later.

    James Paxton had a 4.43 ERA with the Dodgers this year and he just got DFAed. I hope they have more lofty expectations than that for Montas. A 2 month rental of a 5.00 ERA pitcher has almost no value in terms of what you'd give up for that.

    Then you must put almost no value on Wiemer as a prospect, because it would be crazy to give up 5 cost controlled years of any decent young outfielder for a rental of a veteran who you're just hoping to get lucky on if you think the OF is worth anything, whether he's currently blocked or not.

    On paper, this is as bad of a trade as I can remember in recent history. This is one of those where if you're going to say anything positive about it, it's basically that you'll just have to trust the organization on it because they've been right more often than not. We'll see.

    That trade is beyond awful. It's like the Reds' GM broke into Arnold's house, took a dump on his desk, grabbed a couple nice things and fled.

    Huge HR by Adames! Too early to say for this, but I wonder if Devin would become the interim closer again by default. ..

    Cumulatively the NL Central has the highest overall winning percentage in the NL. There are no powerhouses to be sure, but there are no pushovers either.

    He shouldn't be hitting as low in the lineup as he is. The more ABs, the better.

    There needs to be a scientific investigation into how we are in 1st place. I've never seen a 1st place late July team with so many holes.

    I could be wrong, and if I am, I'll give him my props for sure. But I have serious skepticism that any beat writer with only 4K followers in the Detroit metro area really has anything other than a desire to stir up clicks.

    Yes, but those kind of contract restructures are pretty standard everywhere as works best for the organization and often even outside the own player's control. What I'm saying is that if he wanted to ask the organization to completely re-do his deal to put his AAV at the front of the line after all these new deals, he probably could.

    Thing is though I don't think there's going to be a bigger piece acquisition. I don't think we'll do it (sounds like he's going to the Cardinals) but I doubt we'll have a bigger get than that.

    I still don't know how the Chiefs got Mahomes to agree on a 10 year deal when all these other QBs are doing 4-5 years. Different time and market, I know, but that's already looking insanely team-friendly, can't imagine what it'll look like in 5 years. Really he could force them to renegotiate anytime but it doesn't sound like he's ever going to.

    They almost certainly aren't going all-in this year, next year, or in 2026. When is the last time the Brewers did go all-in? 2008 with CC Sabathia? 2011 with Greinke? It just hasn't been their organizational approach post-Doug Melvin and almost certainly will continue that way. The closest move was Christian Yelich but that was a long-term move for a controllable cornerstone, not a short-term all-in move. We can like it for the fact that we're usually in the postseason, or hate it for the fact that we haven't broken through beyond that, but the Brewers organizational philosophy is to assemble a good enough roster, year after year, to make the postseason, and hope for luck to be on our side for once. I don't see that changing. That doesn't mean we will never trade prospects for proven players, or even rentals, but gutting the farm type moves that we saw 12-15 years ago; no, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

    If it makes things any easier, the rest of the division has also decided to suck right now.

    I'm not disagreeing, but there will likely never be a year to do so. There will probably never be a year where we can realistically be the NL favorite. We can be good enough to win our division and hope to get hot and lucky at the right time. That's about it.

    Turang might be under a .600 OPS by season's end at the rate he is cratering.
