  1. Olsen re-signed with the Nationals.
  2. I'll always remember Machado for a play involving two other former (at that point future) Brewers while all three were on the Red Sox. Gabe Kapler was on base when Tony Graffanino hit a homer, but Kapler tore his Achilles while he was rounding the bases, and Machado pinch-ran for him mid-trot.

  4. Link to the thread I made in the Major League forum discussing the singing of LHP A.J. Murray.
  5. According to Baseball America, the Brewers signed lefty A.J. Murray, who saw some time in the big leagues in 07-08 for the Rangers. I assume it's a minor league deal. I don't know anything about him, but his real name is Arlington, so that's cool. Probably cooler when he was on the Rangers, but still.
  6. link Interested?
  7. Haha, I'm cracking up remembering that: Psycho.
  8. Josh, if Kevin Goldstein is one of your best friends, you've got to tell him to spell your name right:
  9. Kendall had 21 infield hits last year. 21!
  10. So where would Lofgren fit in? Eyeballing it, how about at 23, below Jeffress but ahead of Bucci? Ben Badler said Lofgren was a borderline top-30 prospect for the Indians, one of the deepest farm systems in the game, so 23 sounds about right to me. Also, you guys have D'Vontrey Richardson's name spelled wrong (there's an "e").
  11. I wonder if the team would continue administering private drug tests after Jeffress made the 40-man, and if so, how they would discipline him for failures. If they don't test or do test but don't suspend, realistically Jeffress only has to stay clean through 2010, when he'll have to be added to the 40-man for baseball reasons. I guess it depends on whether or not the team truly views it as a problem or simply a problem in the context of the somewhat draconian minor-league drug-testing rules.
  12. Right, because Counsell has so much pop. I think you're forgetting just how much of an outlier Counsell's season was offensively. By Fangraphs' WAR, Amezaga was more valuable than Counsell in 2007 and 2008, even accounting for the fact that he got more playing time. Counsell's going to be 39 this year, while Amezaga's going to be 32. Counsell may be the better player, but the difference might not be worth the actual difference in value. But, I forgot, Counsell was born here, so he's "important to the city". Too bad we aren't the Ciudad Obregon Cerveceros.
  13. The whole situation is a little dramatic. That's not a rebuke, just a comment on how the whole thing is a bit surreal.
  14. CF's the only position he's really played enough to give any weight to the numbers, but his UZR is great everywhere according to Fangraphs. You're right, he hasn't spent much time at SS, but the fact that the Marlins played him at all there probably means he's at least decent.
  15. Steve Woodard is hosting a pitching clinic in Alabama featuring current Alabama-born Brewers Zelous Wheeler, Del Howell, and Donovan Hand.

  17. Unless the Brewers are expecting Counsell to repeat last season, which they shouldn't, maybe they should save themselves some money and sign Alfredo Amezaga instead.
  18. Doesn't sound like the Brewers are going to take anyone, but I'd take a flier on Chuck Lofgren of the Indians. Former top prospect and, as a lefty, could fit into someone's bullpen as a LOOGY.
  19. Ruddy Lugo signed a minor league deal to remain in the Tigers organization.

  21. He's got quite the stare. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/2009/12/07/U22F8jNp.jpg
  22. Why would you ever expect Braddock to pitch 100 innings out of the bullpen?
