  1. Another double for Zelous Wheeler. I think that's 14 now.
  2. Gamel hits a tie-breaking HR in the bottom of the eighth. Maybe I'll stop blogging at Brew Crew Ball and open "the Stars Bar" instead.
  3. Wilson's walk rate is tolerable and he's got a great BB/K for a power hitter (11/15). He's gonna be 22 soon, so what do you think about keeping him in WV all this year and then skipping him past BC to Huntsville to begin 2009?
  4. BC came back and scored five in the bottom of the third to tie it up. Periard's hanging in there.
  5. Anthony Witrado (I think) mentioned rumors of a Lincecum for Gamel (obviously plus a lot extra) trade.
  6. Salome is an "OBP guy" only as long as he hits .330+. He's walked 3 times in 59 ABs this year, on the heels of 12 in 258 ABs last year.
  7. I think the issue is really Escobar batting second. Escobar was born as a seventh or eighth hitter. Gillespie, with his excellent plate discpline, should be hitting second, Salome fifth, and Errecart sixth. I'm betting on Errecart's newfound plate discpline being somewhat of a mirage.
  8. Welch had a three-run double and the opposing pitcher hit a homer.
  9. Greg, we were just remarking on the same thing over at BCB. As to your question, in MLB history the record for stolen bases with just one official time on base is four, done five times, most recently by Tony Womack on 5/15/05. Vince Coleman did it twice. Taking errors out of the equation, Coleman and Davey Lopes are the only two players to have stolen four bases with only one TOB and zero ROE.
  10. Narron looks like a Weaver brother in that picture.
  11. Braddock's first inning was perfect; two K's.
  12. Huh. I didn't know it was AN-und-sen instead of uh-NUND-sen.
  13. NastyTwig, Braddock got promoted to Brevard County. What does everyone think of Dan Merklinger?
  14. Ryan is a 25-year-old right-handed reliever with a 6/8 K/BB in AA.
  15. And while he didn't get a hit off Clayton Kershaw, he didn't strike out either, which is a moral victory of sorts.
  16. By the way, Luis Castillo in AA at age 20 (without adjusting for context): .317/.411/.393
  17. If Brantley can stick in center and turns into Luis Castillo with the bat, that's a fine player. Nobody should expect anything more than that.
  18. Roque has posted the best K-rate of his career by far. He's also had a couple good starts that derailed dramatically a few innings in. Maybe a conversion to the bullpen is in his future.
  19. Haha. LaPorta hit another homer, again on a 3-0 pitch. This is getting silly.
  20. Rhymes with camel, yeah? That's how the Huntsville broadcaster says it.
  21. LaPorta just hammered a 3-0 pitch into the FOREST. Seriously.
  22. Well, Gillespie's numbers were pretty pedestrian before yesterday.
