  2. After tonight's game, they have the league's second- (Gamel, .379) and sixth- (Brantley, .348) leading hitters, four players with OBPs >= .400 (Gamel, .448, 3rd; Brantley, .444, 4th; Errecart, .412, 8th; LaPorta, .400, t-12th), and three of the top ten SLG, including the top two (Gamel, .680, 1st; LaPorta, .644, 2nd; Gillespie, .532, 9th). Michael Brantley is tied for the league lead in SB with 7, Gamel leads the league in triples by two with 5, and LaPorta leads the league in HR by two with 7. Top top it all off, and this should be completely unsurprising, they are utterly dominating the runs-scored leaderboard: (Gamel, 26, 1st [by 6!]; LaPorta, 20, t-2nd; Brantley, 19, 4th, Errecart, 18, t-5th; Gillespie, 17, t-7th; Escobar, 16, t-9th). Wow.
  3. Pogo, that's not necessarily true. Luis Castillo and Jason Kendall come to mind as players who were able to sustain high OBPs with <.400 SLG. For example: .301/.391/.374 - Luis Castillo 2005 .319/.399/.390 - Jason Kendall 2004 Other recent seasons: .293/.391/.344 - Reggie Willits 2007 .314/.381/.394 - Jose Vidro 2007 .295/.394/.382 - Rafael Furcal 2000 .300/.380/.398 - Fernando Vina 2000
  4. He could be Roy Thomas.
  5. Lost in the carnage: Escobar went 0-6. Ouch.
  6. It should be noted that the Stars knocked around Jacob McGee, a really good pitcher, pretty damn well.
  7. LaPorta is now slugging .644 and Gamel is slugging .680.
  8. Gillespie finally makes an out, but Gamel adds to the fun by homering.
  9. Gillespie jumped his SLG from .431 to .539 so far tonight.
  10. Hey, Brantley got a double tonight.
  11. Pierre's MiLB numbers. Career, he hit .330/.377/.392 in the minors, so he always had a poor walk rate.
  12. To put Brantley's age in perspective, the following players are older than Michael Brantley. All are prospects to varying degrees and all are at or below Brantley's level: Zelous Wheeler (120 days, -2 levels) Alcides Escobar (150 days, same level) Taylor Green (192 days, -1 level) Jonathan Lucroy (336 days, -2 levels) Angel Salome (341 days, same level) Lorenzo Cain (397 days, -1 level) Eric Farris (438 days, -2 levels) Mike Ramlow (439 days, -2 levels) Mark Rogers (470 days, -1 level) Dan Merklinger (573 days, -2 levels) Steve Chapman (580 days, -1 level) Charlie Fermaint (581 days, -1 level) Darren Ford (591 days, -1 level) Mat Gamel (658 days, same level) Omar Aguilar (775 days, -1 level) Michael Bell (776 days, same level) Chris Errecart (823 days, same level) Matt LaPorta (857 days, same level) Josh Butler (885 days, -1 level) Robert Hinton (1005 days, same level) Cole Gillespie (1059 days, same level) Chris Cody (1224 days, -1 level) Dave Johnson (1724 days, same level) Steve Hammond (1841 days, same level) Derek Miller (2014 days, same level) Only two players on Brevard County, Alex Periard (31 days) and Zach Braddock (100 days) are younger.
  13. I suppose you could make an argument for keeping him in AA to allow him to work on his defense isolated from everything else, since he's obviously comfortable and is hitting well. You know, as opposed to having to make a hitting adjustment to AAA concomitant with continuing to work on his outfield ability.
  14. aaaaand Brewer already committed another error.
  15. I'm pretty sure the Brewers wouldn't platoon him. If Gamel establishes himself as a ML-quality third baseman, Hall will either be traded or moved.
  16. I agree, his last two starts have been very promising. Maybe he's finally harnessing his supposedly-wicked stuff.
  17. I would vote: 1. LaPorta 2. Gamel 3. Braddock 4. Salome 5. Escobar 6. Iribarren 7. Jeffress 8. Green 9. Brantley 10 is where it starts getting nebulous. Pena? Lucroy? Biggest jump is going to be Wheeler, who wasn't even on the April list. I think Evan Anundsen also deserves a big raise from #37 for his 22/4 K/BB rate and 3.64 G/F ratio.
  18. I don't think he's been moved off 2B, I just think they're having him learn the outfield so that he can be a credible big league backup. Can't be a utility player if your only utility is playing second base. Nobody survives as a pure backup second baseman.
  19. What a day for Chris Errecart: walk-off pinch-hit HR to end the first game, and then 4-4 with a walk in the second game. Speaking of that walk, Errecart'is plate discipline has seemingly greatly improved from last year: 11 UBB in 76 AB so far this year, compared to 31 UBB in 424 AB last year. However, last year he walked 17 times in his first 157 AB, and then only 14 times in his next 266 AB (Minor League Splits is missing an AB), so we'll have to see if he can keep it up this year.
  20. Yeah, but none of them were throwing errors, so that's...something.
  21. I missed some of the broadcast and tuned in to hear the announcer talking about how much everyone hates Sergio Pedroza. Why?
  22. Yeah, I think Goldstein was referring to the fact that he was shackled to 2B in the infield.
