What Fringe prospects are you watching and why?
battlekow replied to CheezWizHed's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
I definitely am a registered Nate Orf fan. I wouldn't exactly say I'm a fan of Nick Shaw, but I respect his career and am glad he's hanging in there and hope he gets to pinch run or something for the Brewers after some apocalyptic cavalcade of middle-infield injuries (okay, let's say a bunch of coincidentally timed paternity leaves to avoid rooting for other players to be injured). I am also fascinated by Omar Garcia's slugging percentage (he homered last year?!). -

Did you notice who got the save for Fort Myers against the 'Tees? I did a double-take. They're the only two Trevor *bergers in baseball history. -

Final: Idaho Falls 6, @Helena 0 Helena box score Close, but no chukar. The Brewers went out with a whimper, collecting just five hits while striking out 14 times. Barrett Astin allowed three unearned runs in five innings, and that was obviously all Idaho Falls needed. MH will have the full write-up for you in the morning. Thanks for the fun season, H-Crew. Final: @Helena 7, Idaho Falls 5 Brewers Force Deciding Game Three By Zac Vierra / Helena Brewers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/6/2/60831162/cuts/25_Taylor_Williams_P_2_fu6vkya1_n9afn5kv.jpg (Seth Eikomstead) After managing just one run in the first game of the series, the Helena Brewers wasted no time getting the offense rolling in game two. The Brewers exploded for six runs in the first inning and that would be the difference as Helena held on to beat Idaho Falls 7-5 to tie the best of three series at one game apiece. Facing elimination, the Brewers bats jumped on Pioneer League All-Star Patrick Conroy right out of the gate. Omar Garcia and Dionis Hinojosa started the game with back-to-back singles and Michael Ratterree drove them both in when he hit a double off the wall in left field. Ratterree would later score when Clint Coulter hit into a fielder's choice. With two outs and runners on the corners, Angel Ortega would deliver with a two-run double to give Helena a 5-0 lead. Nathan Orf would follow with a single up the box to give the Brewers a 6-0 advantage as they batted around in the first frame. "They came out and did a great job in the first inning. They scored a lot of runs, the approach was good, they put the ball in play the way we had talked about and they kept their approach," said Helena manager Tony Diggs. Conroy would settle in and keep the Chukars in the game tossing five scoreless innings the rest of the way, but he was ultimately handed the loss. "[Conroy] made a couple mistakes pitching but I think defensively we made a couple of errors and a double play that we should have turned there and we didn't a couple things like that on defense. We lost the game in the first inning. It would have been a different story if they didn't score those six runs," said Idaho Falls manager Omar Ramirez. For the second straight game the Helena staring pitching was superb. Taylor Williams (above) got the start and went six innings and allowed just one run on six hits. He struck out four and walked just one. It was his second win in as many starts for the Brewers this postseason. "Williams has had it in him all year. Certain things we do as far as out pitching techniques as far as tandems and everything else may not have allowed him early in the season to get wins that he probably could have gotten," said Diggs. "Second time that he has done it in the playoffs. He kept his calm and he did a great job. You expect that out of him." With the Brewers up 7-1, the Chukars battled back to make it a ballgame in the eighth inning off of Tyler Linehan. After Hunter Dozier drove in Humberto Arteaga with a single to make it 7-2, Cody Stubbs provided a blast to put Idaho Falls back in the game. With two men on, Stubbs pulled a homer to right to make it a 7-5 game. Just when the momentum had seemed to swing in the favor of Idaho Falls, Andy Hillis was brought into the game and he retired the next three batters to get out of the mess. The Chukars brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning but Hillis struck out the final two batters of the game allowing the Brewers season to live another day. "That's the whole course of the year. We have always talked about playing 27 outs. We have talked about playing the whole game and not giving in. You can't say enough about the effort that they have been putting in year in and year out. They continued to do it and they did it again tonight so hopefully we come out prepared to play tomorrow," said Diggs. After 80 games, the season will come down to one final contest as the Brewers will try to claim their fifth Pioneer League title on Tuesday night. Helena box score Helena play-by-play

Final: @Idaho Falls 2, Helena 1 Brewers Fall in Close Game One By Zac Vierra / Helena Brewers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/8/4/60655384/cuts/18_Anthony_Banda_P_ibyo1pjr_g2yrbl82.jpg (Seth Eikomstead) The first game of the Pioneer League Championship Series featured a championship caliber pitching performance from each side. Jonathan Dziedzic and a trio of Idaho Falls relievers out dueled Anthony Banda and Tristan Archer as the Chukars beat the Brewers 2-1 on Saturday to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Dzidezic picked up the win after limiting the Brewers to just two hits in six innings. He struck out eight and walked one. Josiel Martinez allowed an unearned run in the seventh and Glenn Sparkman relived him in the eighth and struck out three in 1.2 innings. Kyle Bartsch faced just one batter, pinch hitter Jalen Harris, and struck him out to close out the game and earn the save. Banda (above) kept the Brewers in the game as he allowed two runs on five hits in six innings. Archer allowed no runs in two frames. Although Banda and Archer were impressive, the effort was not enough on the night as the Brewer bats were limited to just four hits on the evening. The Chukars scored their only runs in the third inning. Humberto Arteaga would lead off the inning with a single. Idaho Falls would then put on the hit and run play as Elier Hernandez hit a single to center. When Dionis Hinojosa bobbled the ball, Arteaga came around to score the game's first run. Hunter Dozier would then pull a bullet down the left field line for a RBI double as Hernandez scored to make it 2-0. The Brewers would load the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh thanks to a pair of errors and a bunt single by Adam Giacalone, but they could only manage one run as Jose Pena grounded into a 5-4-3 double play. That would be the last scoring chance for Helena as the team only had one base runner the rest of the way, a two-out single by Michael Ratterree in the ninth, before Bartsch struck out Harris to end it. The teams will play Game Two of the series on Monday night at Kindrick Legion Field. Helena will need a win to continue its season while Idaho Falls will look to clinch its third Pioneer League title. Helena box score Banda walked three while striking out only two. Not much going on offensively, obviously--the Brewers struck out 12 times and drew just one walk. Helena play-by-play

Final: @Helena 8, Great Falls 6 Brewers Sweep Their Way to Finals By Zac Vierra / Helena Brewers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/0/6/60228806/cuts/DSCF2066_fr5k1pjz_3zvb011i.JPG On a night when the Brewer bullpen was outstanding, it was only fitting that fourth man out of the pen struck out the side to send Helena to the Pioneer League Championship Series as Tyler Alexander retired Jacob Morris with a breaking ball to give Helena an 8-6 win over Great Falls Alexander (above) pumped his fist and his teammates joyfully greeted him on the mound as the Brewers had moved on. Tuesday's win completed a sweep for the Brewers as they returned the favor of the season-ending beat down the Voyagers put on Helena. "I've been proud of them even when we lost but for them to do the things that they did, losing the last four games and then playing the way that they have the last two, that speaks volumes for them, that's all on them. That shows heart, that shows character, good job on their part," said Helena manger Tony Diggs. It was a night when things did not look good for Helena early as Brewer starter Barrett Astin allowed five runs and could not retire a batter in the second inning. With the game possibly in the balance, Diggs called upon Chris Razo in the second and the right hander was outstanding tossing four scoreless innings earn the win. Much like he did in the regular season, Razo kept the Brewers in the game and swooped up a victory when his teammates battled back. "The vulture showed up again," said a smiling Diggs. "That shows that he has been doing it all year holding us right there and giving us a chance to win the game. The bats came back to life and he deserved this one." Razo was followed by Sean Albury, Tanner Poppe, and Alexander, a trio that allowed just one run in the final four frames. "The scoreboard shows it all. The bullpen comes in shuts them down. They allowed one run in the last seven innings. That speaks volumes about our bullpen and they way they stepped it up," said Diggs. Pioneer League MVP Michael Ratterree had a great performance going 2 for 2 with three walks and four runs scored. He was retired just once by Great Falls all series. But as impressive as Ratterree was at the plate it was a huge defensive play that might have given his team a spark in the top of the fifth inning. With the Brewers trailing 5-3 with two outs in the frame and Corey Thompson on second, Christian Stringer hit a single to right field. Ratterree came up firing and threw a bullet home to nail Thompson by a mile and end the inning. "If [Ratterree] doesn't throw him out we are still playing right now so that's a great job by Ratterree right there," said Diggs. Just like that the Brewers were out of a jam and in the bottom of the frame they took the momentum and ran with it. After a walk, a single, and a hit by pitch, Dustin Houle singled to left to make it a one run deficit. Taylor Brennan would then provide the biggest hit of the game when he sliced a two-run double to right to give the Brewers a 6-5 lead. It was the first time the Brewers had led all game and they would not trail again. "I think Brennan's actions at second base showed how much he was pumped up. He did a good job of staying on the ball, not trying to get too big, something that he has been trying to work on all season and it showed up right here," said Diggs. Jose Pena, who went 2 for 2 with 3 RBI, helped give the Brewers some insurance late, drawing a bases loaded walk in the sixth along with plating Ratterree with a RBI single in the eighth. The two run lead was plenty for Alexander who struck out four of the five batters he faced to earn the save. After not leading once in Game One, the Voyagers didn't waste any time getting on top in the second game of the series. With two outs and runners on first and second, Zac Fisher hit a single up the middle and Danny Hayes beat the throw home to give Great Falls a 1-0 lead. Jacob Morris would then pull a two-run double into the corner in left. The Brewers would get a run back in the bottom of the frame when Ratterree drew a two-out walk and Adam Giacalone smoked a double into the gap in right-center to drive him in. But the Voyagers would strike back in the second as Adam Engel hit a two-run bomb off Astin and one batter later Razo was into the game. In the third inning the Brewers would begin to chip away. After Ratterree walked and Giacalone singled, Pena hit a base hit to center to make it a 5-2 game. The Brewers would grab another run in the fourth inning when Jalen Harris led off with a triple to right and scored when Matt Abramson threw a wild pitch. Helena would then take the lead on Brennan's double in the fifth. The Brewers advance to the Pioneer League Championship Series for the first time since 2010, the year of the team's last championship. Helena will face the winner of the series between Grand Junction and Idaho Falls. The first game of the series will take place Saturday night. Helena box score Helena play-by-play

Final: Great Falls 7, @Helena 4 Regular Season Ends on Down Note By Zac Vierra / Helena Brewers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/5/0/60010450/cuts/Linehan_yxwomi5a_olmwokye.png Although Sunday's game meant nothing in the standings it could not have gone the way the Helena Brewers would have liked. Aided by a four-run seventh inning, the Voyagers swept Helena with a 7-4 victory at Kindrick Legion Field. The Brewers finished the regular season with a record of 43-33 and they will take on these same Voyagers to begin the Pioneer League playoffs on Monday in Great Falls. It was a tough way to end the regular season but on once the postseason begins the slate will be wiped clean and Helena skipper Tony Diggs says the mindset of the team must stay consistent. "It's the same thing as we have been doing. Go about your business the right way and be ready to play tomorrow. Does it mean more tomorrow, yeah, but be ready to play tomorrow," he said. The Brewers led 4-3 in the seventh inning when Great Falls took the lead for good. With one out Dillon Haupt walked and Dane Opel singled. After a the runners advanced to scoring position thanks to a passed ball, Adam Engel pulled a double down the line just past the dive of Jalen Harris at third to give Great Falls a 5-4 advantage. The Voyagers would add to the lead when Engel scored on a passed ball and Tyler Shryock came home on a wild pitch by Eduard Reyes. "We didn't make pitches that we needed to make and then we made a few wild pitches on top of that to allow runners to move around. So nothing [happened that inning] that we haven't done but it is something that we should be doing a lot better at this point and time," said Diggs. Tyler Linehan (above) made the start for Helena and he only allowed one run, a solo homer by Haupt in the second, in three innings. The Brewers would take their second lead of the series in the third inning when Nathan Orf hit a RBI single, Angel Ortega scored on a wild pitch, Charlie Markson drove home a run with a single. After Great Falls had tied the game in the fifth thanks to a two-run shot by Jairo Kelly, Helena would regain the lead in the bottom half of the frame when Michael Ratterree doubled and scored on a single by Adam Giacalone. The Brewers scored a series-high four runs on nine hits as they tried to generate some offensive momentum heading into the playoffs. "The guys' approaches are pretty solid. They are still doing everything they need to do. The hits will come they just need to keep the approach," said Diggs. The task will not get any easier as Helena will face Jake Sanchez on Monday, the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year. Taylor Williams will be on the hill for Helena. First pitch of Game One of the North Division Playoffs is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Centene Stadium. Helena box score Jose Pena had two hits and a walk, and Harris drew three free passes. Reyes allowed six runs (five earned). Andy Hillis pitched a scoreless inning of relief to finish with a regular-season ERA of 0.44 in 20.2 innings. Helena play-by-play
-
Final: Great Falls 4, @Helena 3 Helena box score The Brewers better hope this isn't a preview of the playoffs, because they've dropped the last three games to the Voyagers. Not much going on offensively until the 9th inning, when they pushed across two runs to make it close. Two of their six hits came courtesy of Adam Giacalone. Omar Garcia was back in the lineup for the first time since the 2nd, so that's good to see. Brandon Moore allowed three runs (two earned) in 3.2 innings. Trevor Seidenberger followed with 4.1 innings of one-run ball with a nice 5/1 K/BB to lower his ERA to 6.75, which at least doesn't cause a double-take. Helena play-by-play They had the tying run on 2nd with no outs in the 9th but couldn't plate him: Helena Bottom of the 9th Michael Ratterree reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Zach Voight. Adam Giacalone singles on a line drive to center fielder Adam Engel. Michael Ratterree to 2nd. Dustin Houle singles on a ground ball to left fielder Justin Jirschele. Michael Ratterree scores. Adam Giacalone scores. Dustin Houle to 2nd. Fielding error by left fielder Justin Jirschele. Jose Pena grounds out, third baseman Zach Voight to first baseman Danny Hayes. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Ruben Ozuna replaces Dustin Houle. Clint Coulter lines out to third baseman Zach Voight. Jalen Harris strikes out swinging.

Final: Great Falls 10, @Helena 1 Helena box score A nine-run 4th was all she wrote. Eight of the runs (albeit only two earned) came off Zach Quintana, who continues to struggle mightily. Dionis Hinojosa provided a bright spot by reaching four of five trips from the leadoff spot, and Jalen Harris stayed hot with three more hits. Omar Garcia hasn't played since the 2nd. Helena play-by-play
-
Final: Helena 6, @Billings 5 Helena box score The Mustangs made it dramatic with two runs in the bottom of the 9th, but the Brewers held on. Nathan Orf was the star with four hits in five at-bats from the leadoff spot. Montee Ball hopes to make it big in Denver this season, but Orf's beaten him to the punch in terms of professional breakouts by Wentzville, MO natives: .313/.452/.420 ain't too shabby. Charlie Markson backed him up with three hits, including two doubles, in the two-hole, and Adam Giacalone went deep for the 5th time. Michael Ratterree had a rare tough night with a golden sombrero. Barrett Astin turned in a really nice start, four hitless innings with a 4/1 K/BB. Taylor Williams followed and allowed three runs in three innings, and the two 9th-inning runs came off Estevenson Encarnacion (who earned a hold for his contributions) before Juan Santiago locked things down. Helena play-by-play Billings Bottom of the 9th Ty Washington hit by pitch. Jhimmy Lopez strikes out swinging. Carlton Daal doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Jose Pena. Ty Washington to 3rd. Gabriel Rosa walks. Aristides Aquino out on a sacrifice fly to right fielder Michael Ratterree. Ty Washington scores. Carlton Daal to 3rd. With Avain Rachal batting, Gabriel Rosa steals (12) 2nd base. With Avain Rachal batting, wild pitch by Estevenson Encarnacion, Carlton Daal scores. Gabriel Rosa to 3rd. Avain Rachal walks. Pitching Change: Juan Santiago replaces Estevenson Encarnacion. Carlos Sanchez flies out to center fielder Charlie Markson.
-
Final: @Helena 10, Billings 7 Helena box score Two homers from Jose Pena helped the Brewers overcome a five-spot from Billings in the 2nd inning. Pena has 49 hits on the year, and over half have gone for extra bases (18 doubles, nine homers). Nathan Orf led off and Orfed it up, reaching base in four out of five trips; his OBP is .446 and he has 23 walks against just 20 strikeouts. Michael Ratterree singled, doubled, and walked, running his hit streak to nine games. Clint Coulter had a tough night, 0-4 with three strikeouts. Charlie Markson, whose ex-girlfriend I saw tonight, did not play. Figures that Danny Keller, while finally posting a nice K/BB ratio (5/1 in five innings), would get hammered for five runs, too. He also kept the ball down well (7/1 GO/FO), so I guess it just wasn't his night. Helena play-by-play
-
Final: Billings 8, @Helena 6 Helena box score The Brewers fell behind 7-2 and couldn't recover. Backup catcher Michael Turay was the offensive leader, ending up a triple short of the cycle. Taylor Brennan also reached base three times with a single, double, and walk. Newly minted Pioneer League MVP Michael Ratterree did not play. Starter David Otterman continues to post abysmal K/BB numbers, today walking five in three innings while fanning two. He allowed six runs (four earned); honestly, I'm surprised his ERA is only 4.79. Andy Hillis, in contrast, tossed two scoreless frames to drop his ERA to 0.46. Helena play-by-play Angel Ortega was lifted for a pinch hitter in the 4th after participating in a rundown the previous inning.
-
Final: @Helena 11, Missoula 3 Helena box score Nice game. Adam Giacalone and, in his Pioneer League debut, Jack Cleary each had three hits to lead the Brewers. Taylor Brennan also reached three times with a single and two walks. Zach Quintana allowed on run in four innings to lower his ERA to 7.07. Helena play-by-play
-
Final: @Helena 7, Missoula 5 Helena box score The Osprey tied it at 4 with a three spot in the top of the 7th but the Brewers answered right back with three runs of their own to push ahead for good. The first two hitters in the lineup, Omar Garcia and Charlie Markson, combined to reach in six of eight plate appearances. Garcia did it the more conventional way, with three singles; Markson also singled but was twice hit by a pitch as well. Garcia also stole two bases to run his total to 28. Clint Coulter did not play. Weird start from Tyler Linehan--five innings of one-run ball is good, but five walks against one strikeout is scary. Eduard Reyes and Sean Albury followed and each managed to throw three wild pitches in two innings. Helena play-by-play This is the opposite of a Rickey Rally--a Rick Ankiel Rally: Missoula Top of the 8th Pitching Change: Sean Albury replaces Eduard Reyes. Stryker Trahan walks. Jamie Westbrook called out on strikes. With Jake Miller batting, wild pitch by Sean Albury, Stryker Trahan to 2nd. With Jake Miller batting, wild pitch by Sean Albury, Stryker Trahan to 3rd. With Jake Miller batting, wild pitch by Sean Albury, Stryker Trahan scores. Jake Miller flies out to center fielder Omar Garcia. Yorman Garcia pops out to third baseman Jalen Harris. Angel Ortega was ejected after popping out to end the 8th. Not sure what he took offense too; maybe he thought he'd earned ball four earlier and was grousing?

Link Report for Tue. 8/27 - Timber Rattlers Matinee
battlekow replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Final: Helena 8, @Grand Junction 4 Helena box score Adam Giacalone, Clint Coulter, and Jose Pena all went deep for the Brewers, and Nathan Orf cracked two doubles. Pena also doubled, and Michael Ratterree tripled and was hit by a pitch. Trevor Seidenberger made his first start and allowed only two runs in four innings. Brandon Moore followed with four innings of one-run ball. They got a lot of help from their defense, though; between them they struck out precisely zero Rockies. Helena play-by-play -
Final (game two): Helena 16, @Grand Junction 3 (7 innings) Helena box score The Brewers took a 5-2 lead into the 6th...and then tacked on a few Badger Mutual insurance runs--11 to be precise. Somewhat improbably they tallied one nine hits, though as you might expect they did draw a bunch of free passes (11). Of the nine hits, four came courtesy of Renaldo Jenkins and included a double and a triple. In the previous post I highlighted Jalen Harris's surprisingly good numbers, and now it's Jenkins' turn. This monster game raises the 20-year-old middle infielder's season batting line to .318/.369/.442. The wart here is that he's drawn only five walks, but hey, otherwise you might have heard of him. Omar Garcia, Michael Ratterree, and Michael Turay each reached base three times, all with one hit and two walks. Since we're posting batting lines, Garcia's at .306/.427/.328 (only four doubles!), and Ratterree is at .321/.401/.615 (he's 22, but hitting well can't hurt, right?) Danny Keller remains extremely wild, walking four, hitting a batter, and unleashing two wild pitches in his four innings of work. Tyler Alexander posted a rare four-strikeout inning to close out the game; in fact, he also had two wild pitches, and the other Brewers pitcher, Tristan Archer had one as well. Helena play-by-play Helena Top of the 6th Pitching Change: William Waltrip replaces Manuel Montilla. Jalen Harris walks. With Michael Turay batting, wild pitch by William Waltrip, Jalen Harris to 2nd. Michael Turay walks. Jesse Weiss walks. Jalen Harris to 3rd. Michael Turay to 2nd. Ruben Ozuna reaches on a missed catch error by first baseman Jordan Patterson, assist to second baseman Cesar Galvez. Jalen Harris scores. Michael Turay to 3rd. Jesse Weiss to 2nd. Renaldo Jenkins triples (3) on a line drive to right fielder Raimel Tapia. Michael Turay scores. Jesse Weiss scores. Ruben Ozuna scores. Omar Garcia walks. Pitching Change: Scott Firth replaces William Waltrip. Nathan Orf reaches on a force attempt, throwing error by third baseman Miguel Dilone. Renaldo Jenkins scores. Omar Garcia to 2nd. Michael Ratterree doubles (20) on a line drive to left fielder Ryan Garvey. Omar Garcia scores. Nathan Orf to 3rd. Adam Giacalone walks. With Jalen Harris batting, passed ball by Robbie Perkins, Nathan Orf scores. Michael Ratterree to 3rd. Adam Giacalone to 2nd. Jalen Harris strikes out swinging. Michael Turay walks. Jesse Weiss out on a sacrifice fly to right fielder Raimel Tapia. Michael Ratterree scores. Ruben Ozuna walks. Adam Giacalone to 3rd. Michael Turay to 2nd. Terry McClure strikes out swinging. Terry McClure advances to 1st, on a throwing error by catcher Michael Turay. Wild pitch by pitcher Tyler Alexander. Robbie Perkins to 3rd. Raimel Tapia strikes out swinging.

Final (game one): @Grand Junction 3, Helena 2 (8 innings) Helena box score The Brewers coughed this one up by allowed the tying run in the 6th and the the winning run in "extras". Anthony Banda nevertheless went seven pretty strong innings, allowing the two runs on four hits with a 4/2 K/BB and a 10/1 GO/FO. Banda, who turned 20 a couple weeks ago, is having a decent, under-the-radar kinda year, at least from my perspective (he may be more or less under the radar for those of you who listen to Steve regularly). Anybody got a pro scouting report on him? Andy Hillis picked up the loss, but his microscopic ERA was preserved by the winning run being unearned. Michael Ratterree had two hits, including his 12th homer. Banda's roommate, Jalen Harris also had two knocks and has quietly put up a nice August to really boost his numbers (.350/.409/.450 in August, .289/.348/.389 overall)--of course he's also struck out 20 times in 60 August ABs, so his >.500 BABIP is probably not something you want to count on going forward. Clint Coulter was 0-4. Helena play-by-play Grand Junction Bottom of the 8th Pitching Change: Andy Hillis replaces Anthony Banda. Wesley Jones grounds out to first baseman Jalen Harris. Terry McClure singles on a ground ball to right fielder Michael Ratterree. Raimel Tapia grounds into a force out, first baseman Jalen Harris to shortstop Angel Ortega. Terry McClure out at 2nd. Raimel Tapia to 1st. Cesar Galvez singles on a ground ball to pitcher Andy Hillis. Cesar Galvez to 2nd. Raimel Tapia advances to 3rd, on a throwing error by pitcher Andy Hillis. Ryan McMahon singles on a ground ball to shortstop Angel Ortega. Raimel Tapia scores. Cesar Galvez to 3rd.

Link Report for Sat. 8/24 - DSL Season Concludes
battlekow replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Final: @Grand Junction 9, Helena 6 Helena box score Despite 13 hits, the Brewers were outgunned by the Rockies. Zach Quintana continues to struggle, here allowing five runs in three innings. The 2012 3rd-rounder's ERA now sits at 7.41. Chris Razo did have a nice game in middle relief, allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Angel Ortega, Jose Pena, and Jalen Harris had three hits apiece. Pena has three or more hits in three of his last five games. Omar Garcia stole his 26th base. Helena play-by-play -
Final: Helena 11, @Orem 2 Helena box score Boom! The Brewers put 22 men on base today, and that's not counting the three Owlz errors. Omar Garcia set the table quite effectively, reaching base in five of six plate appearances. Garcia also stole his 25th base, though he was also picked off. Several other Brewers were on three times, including Michael Ratterree and Taylor Brennan, each of whom hit their 11th homer. Angel Ortega also went deep. Barrett Astin and Taylor Williams each pitched okay in short appearances. Astin continues to burn worms, posting a 6/0 GO/FO tonight; for once, though, he didn't allow a homer to go with all the groundouts. Helena play-by-play
-
Final: @Orem 4, Helena 3 Helena box score Tough loss to snap a six-game win streak. The Brewers took a 3-1 lead into the 9th but allowed the Owlz to walk off with a win. The three runs and loss were charged to Estevenson Encarnacion. Danny Keller managed two scoreless innings, but he walked two and fanned none. Keller hasn't had more strikeouts than walks since his first appearance of the year, on June 22nd. As a bright spot, Clint Coulter had a big game in his first Pioneer League action since early July, going 3-4. Omar Garcia and Adam Giacalone each reached twice, and Garcia stole his 24th base. Nice little debut season he's putting together for a 19-/20-year-old. Helena play-by-play Orem Bottom of the 9th Pitching Change: Estevenson Encarnacion replaces Daniel Keller. Kody Eaves hit by pitch. Jose Rondon singles on a line drive to center fielder Omar Garcia. Kody Eaves to 2nd. Cal Towey triples (6) on a ground ball to right fielder Michael Ratterree. Kody Eaves scores. Jose Rondon scores. Michael Fish hit by pitch. With Mark Shannon batting, Michael Fish advances to 2nd on defensive indifference. Mark Shannon walks. Alex Allbritton strikes out swinging. Eric Aguilera out on a sacrifice fly to left fielder Jose Pena. Cal Towey scores.

Nice game for Helena. If someone could post the recap for me again tonight, that would be grand. I should have Internet back tomorrow.
