Ozuna is day-to-day with a groin strain. At least it's not an oblique.
-
23rd-round C Ben McMahan has signed and been sent to Helena.

There usually aren't official DL moves in the AZL, but if you don't see C Cameron Garfield's name in the box scores for awhile, this is probably why: Jim Breen is hearing that Garfield dislocated his knee yesterday. Turning into a lost season for the young backstop.

I just realized the best part about this promotion: I no longer have to type out either his or Kentrail Davis's full name when referencing them in game recaps. To "Davis"!

Final: @Nashville 5, Iowa 2 Sounds Notch Fifth Straight Win In Series OpenerNashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds continued their recent hot play on Friday evening at Greer Stadium, defeating the division-rival Iowa Cubs by a 5-2 margin in the opener of a four-game series. The win was the fifth in a row for Nashville (48-52), all against the I-Cubs. Center fielder Logan Schafer enjoyed a solid Triple-A debut for the Sounds, going 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, run scored, and stolen base. In addition, he made an outstanding running catch of a Ryan Flaherty fly ball at the wall in right-center in the fifth. Iowa catcher Welington Castillo - who recorded three of the Cubs' four hits on the night and missed the cycle by a triple - gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when he belted a one-out solo homer to center off Sounds starter Amaury Rivas, the backstop's 14th longball of the season. The Sounds took a 4-1 lead in the third when they batted around against Cubs starter and former Milwaukee Brewer Dave Bush. Nashville tied the game when Schafer recorded his first career Triple-A hit, an RBI single to left that plated Caleb Gindl from second to make it a 1-1 contest. Later in the frame, the Sounds took a 3-1 lead when Erick Almonte (2-for-3) ripped a two-out, two-run single up the middle to bring in Schafer and Edwin Maysonet. Mat Gamel blooped an opposite-field ducksnort to left that dropped right onto the foul line for an RBI single that knocked in Taylor Green and increased the Sounds' advantage to 4-1. Jordan Brown added a run for Nashville in the fourth when he lifted a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to center to drive in Gindl, marking the eighth game in his last nine that Brown has recorded an RBI. The I-Cubs got a run back in the fifth when pinch-hitter Jonathon Mota drove in Castillo with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly of his own. Rivas (7-9) picked up his team-leading seventh victory for the Sounds after allowing two runs on two runs on two hits while walking three batters and striking out seven in five frames. Left-hander Daniel Meadows followed Rivas with an outstanding relief effort, working 3 1/3 scoreless innings and allowing only two hits while striking out five. The southpaw threw 25 of his 33 pitches for strikes. Jim Henderson closed out the contest by retiring the final two batters. Bush (0-1) was saddled with the loss for Iowa after giving up five runs on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings of action. The teams continue the series with a 6:35 p.m. matchup on Saturday night. Right-hander Frankie De La Cruz (3-6, 4.42) will make the start for the Sounds and face Iowa right-hander Alberto Cabrera (1-2, 6.53). Nashville box scoreSchafer also walked; great to see him get off on the right foot. We'll just pretend he played all year last year at Huntsville and has spent this season at Nashville--see, right on track. Nice strikeout total for Rivas, though seeing him leave after just five innings and 78 pitches is a little odd, and his spot in the order did not come up in the previous half inning. Love that line by Meadows. He is left-handed. The Brewers do not have a left-handed reliever. Ergo, all men are Socrates. Green did not get on base and thus is ineligible for promotion for another two months; however, had he gotten on base, it would merely be evidence of the inferiority of AAA pitches and he would be ineligible for promotion for another two months. Sorry, Taylor--when you play the game of third base, you either win or you die. Nashville play-by-play

Final: @Huntsville 3, Chattanooga 2 Huntsville box scoreFor once Michael Bowman didn't get annihilated, and scoreless innings from Lucas Luetge, Santo Manzanillo, and Rob Wooten let the Stars come back for the win with runs in the 7th and 9th. This was Manzanillo's sixth inning at AA, and he finally recorded his first strikeout; thankfully, he's also walked just one (one walk used to be a good inning for Santo Manzanillo). Zelous Wheeler was the only star with multiple hits, though Erik Komatsu doubled and walked and Martin Maldonado was also on twice with a hit and a free pass. Khris Davis did not start but struck out as a pinch hitter in his first AA at-bat. Final: Wisconsin 7, @Lansing 2 Rattlers crack LugnutsChris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers LANSING, MI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 7-2 Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium behind a fast start from the offense and a strong start from Jimmy Nelson. TJ Mittelstaedt got the Rattlers (49-48 overall, 11-16 second half) off on the right foot. The Wisconsin leadoff batter crushed the first pitch of the game for a long home run to right-center. Later in the inning, Greg Hopkins made the score 2-0 with an RBI double. Lansing (55-39, 17-10) had runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the first inning. But, Rattlers starting pitcher Nelson avoided allowing a run with a popup and a ground out. The Rattlers went right back on the attack in the top of the second. Franklin Romero, Jr. singled and stole second to start the inning. Mittelstaedt reached on an infield single and an ill-advised throw to first let Romero score. Mittelstaedt would take second on the play. Nick Shaw made it 4-0 with an RBI single. Michael Crouse put Lansing on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to left-center. That home run by Crouse was the only run allowed by Nelson. The right-hander tossed six innings, gave up four hits, and struck out six. The Rattlers offense scored three more times in the top of the seventh inning. Mittelstaedt drew a one out walk. Shaw followed with an RBI triple. Mike Walker’s double plated Shaw. Later in the frame, Walker scored on a wild pitch for a 7-1 lead. Lansing scored a run in the bottom of the eighth without a hit off reliever Adrian Rosario. A pair of one out walks, a passed ball, and an RBI grounder by Marcus Knecht made the score 7-2. Alan Williams, one of the new Rattlers relief pitchers, relieved Rosario and got the final out. Williams worked a scoreless ninth inning to close out the Lugnuts. The Timber Rattlers continue their road trip with a game against the Great Lakes Loons on Saturday night at Down Diamond in Midland, Michigan. Charly Bashara (3-3, 4.69) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Ryan Christenson (7-6, 4.68) is the scheduled starter for the Loons. Game time is 6:05pm CDT. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 5:45pm. Wisconsin box scoreExcellent start by Nelson, especially in the walks departments; seems like he's good for at least a couple every game, but he didn't walk anyone tonight, though he did hit a batter. Nice A-ball debut for Alan Williams, too--he'll be on my Power 50 ballot. Mittelstaedt didn't play between the 16th and yesterday, so while he had consecutive three-hit games just four games ago, it seems like it's been awhile. Anyway, nice to see him get on four times; he also swiped his 17th bag. Jason Rogers contributed two hits and a walk. No Cody Hawn again. I really wish the Brewers had signed Marcus Knecht in 2008. Final: @DSL Mariners 12, DSL Brewers 11 DSL Brewers box scoreUnbelievable. The Cerveceritos overcame 6-1 and 10-7 deficits only to lose, yet again, to their nemesis. LHP Marcos Padilla had a particularly poor game, allowing four runs in just one inning. Figures that in a game where they scored 11 runs Orlando Arcia would only record one hit, but at least it was a double; he struck out twice after having done so only 11 times total entering today. Congrats to promising 17-year-old 3B Esthervin Matos, who cracked his first professional homer and also singled and walked; he's now hitting .370/.482/.543 through his first 15 games. Once-promising Jose Pena had three hits, including two doubles, but is still hitting just .195. Along with Pena and Matos, unheralded middle infielders Francisco Castillo and Alejandro Mendoza led the charge with four and three hits, respectively; Castillo tripled and doubled, while Mendoza joined Pena with two two-baggers. DSL Brewers play-by-playThe walk-off ending was pretty shoddy stuff on the Brewers' part: DSL Mariners Bottom of the 9thWestlonder Marcelino walks.Offensive Substitution: Pinch runner Wilton Martinez replaces Westlonder Marcelino. With Diego Mina batting, wild pitch by Angel Ventura, Wilton Martinez to 2nd.With Diego Mina batting, wild pitch by Angel Ventura, Wilton Martinez to 3rd.Pitcher Change: Carlos Sosa replaces Angel Ventura.Diego Mina singles on a fly ball to center fielder Dionis Hinojosa. Final: Nashville 8, @Iowa 7 Nashville box scoreTaylor Green is good at baseball. On four out of five times, including his 14th homer of the year, but Ron Roenicke thinks because Mat Gamel hit poorly in a tiny sample of chances that Green doesn't deserve a shot. Whatever. In this case, I think the grass is actually Greener on the other side. Jordan Brown had three hits, including two doubles. mat Gamel went hitless and committed another throwing error at third base. Doubtless that will be held against Green as well. Sam Narron pitched into the 7th but gave up an impressive 12 hits and six runs; thankfully, the I-Cubs' pitchers were worse. Mike McClendon picked up the save despite allowed an unearned run in the 9th. Nashville play-by-play

Final: Chattanooga 4, @Huntsville 3 Huntsville box score A fine start by Kyle Heckathorn: 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 HR, 8/5 GO/AO. He needed just 79 pitches to go those seven innings, 54 of them strikes. A run in the 9th off Jesus Sanchez broke the three-all tie and decided the game. Lee Haydel had two hits and stole his 12th base. I was dimly away the Haydel had been scuffling, but I had no idea of the severity: he was hitting .143/.192/.143 in July entering tonight, which has turned what looked like a breakout season into a mirror image of last year's. Logan Schafer tripled once in five trips; he's been the opposite of Haydel in July, hitting a fine .328/.431/.410. Tonight's three-bagger aside, would be nice if one of Haydel, Schafer, or Erik Komatsu would stumble onto some power. Komo walked twice tonight.Huntsville play-by-play Hecakthorn's unearned runs were legitimately so: Chattanooga Top of the 5thTravis Denker grounds out, third baseman Zelous Wheeler to first baseman Steffan Wilson.Jaime Pedroza reaches on fielding error by right fielder Erik Komatsu. Final: St. Lucie 14, @Brevard County 3 Brevard County box scoreOuch. Nine runs charged to Hiram Burgos's ledger. Skyler Crawford was the only Sea Cow hurler to emerge unscathed, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings in his BC debut. Kentrail Davis was only 1-4 but stole three bases to give him an even 30 on the year. Khris Davis walked twice, and D'Vontrey Richardson contributed a walk and a sac fly. Each of the four different BC pitchers hit a batter. Kind of surprised Rolando Pascual hit only one, but they don't list "pitches behind batter" in the box score.Brevard County play-by-play Nah.

Final: @Lansing 5, Wisconsin 4 Lugnuts edge Rattlers by a runChris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers LANSING, MI – The Lansing Lugnuts charged out to a 5-1 lead on Wednesday night against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Cooley Law School Stadium. Wisconsin charged back to get close, but the Lugnuts held on for a 5-4 win. The Lugnuts (55-38 overall, 17-9 second half) scored first. Oliver Dominguez singled in a run with one out in the second inning. In the third, Jake Marisnick high chopper to the mound was enough to get Michael Crouse home from third for a 2-0 lead. Wisconsin (48-48, 10-16) took advantage of a pair of errors in the top of the fourth inning to get on the board. Greg Hopkins reached on an error with one out. Then, he tried for third on a single to center by Chad Stang. The throw had Hopkins at third, but he made a great slide to avoid the tag of third baseman Bryson Namba. There were still runners at the corners with two outs when Tony Pechek’s grounder towards right was flagged down by second baseman Dominguez. But, Dominguez threw wildly to first allowing Pechek to reach and Hopkins to score to cut the deficit to 2-1. But, the Lugnuts padded their lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth off Wisconsin starter Maverick Lasker. The first two batters reached on a single and a walk. Jack Murphy cashed in both runners with a double. Murphy would score on a two-out single by Crouse. Wisconsin chipped away with a pair of runs in the sixth and one more in the eighth. In the sixth, Stang tripled to drive in a run. Mike Brownstein’s grounder to first was misplayed and Stang scored to make it 5-4. In the eighth, Stang tripled – for his fourth hit of the night. This time, a misplay by the third baseman on a grounder off the bat of Brownstein let Stang in to cut the Lugnuts run to one. Wisconsin tried to put together a two out rally in the ninth. Jason Rogers drew a two out walk and Hopkins followed with a single. But, Stang struck out to end the game. The final game of the three game series is Friday night. Jimmy Nelson (4-7, 4.36) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Lugnuts send Egan Smith (4-3, 3.71) to the mound. Game time is 6:05pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 5:45pm. Wisconsin box scoreWell, Lasker's pretty much fallen off the map this year; he had four wild pitches today. Brian Garman and Eric Marzec showcased their strikeout stuff, Garman fanning three in two innings and Marzec two in one. How about Stang with two triples? Who was the last Brewers farmhand to do that? Figures he'd make his only out of the game with the tying run in scoring position and two outs in the 9th inning. TJ Mittelstaedt had a rough night, 0-5 with three whiffs. No Cody Hawn today.Wisconsin play-by-play

Final: Nashville 10, @Iowa 2 Sounds Win 3rd Straight In Iowa, 10-2Nashville Sounds DES MOINES, Iowa - The Nashville Sounds recorded their third straight win over the division-rival Iowa Cubs, triumphing 10-2 on Wednesday evening at Principal Park. The victory was the season-best fifth consecutive road win for Nashville (46-52), which has won seven of its last 10 contests overall. Every Sounds position player contributed to the club's 16-hit effort except Wil Nieves (0-for-4), paced by three-hit, two-RBI efforts from Jordan Brown and Caleb Gindl. Mat Gamel also logged three knocks on the night. Nashville's 10 runs in the contest were scored by nine different players; Brown scored twice on the evening. Iowa second baseman D.J. LeMahieu put the home team on the board in the first when he belted his first career Triple-A home run, a two-run shot to center off Sounds starter Josh Butler. Tyler Colvin, who preceded LeMahieu with a double, also scored on the blast. The Sounds rallied to grab a 3-2 lead with a three-run outburst in the top of the third inning against Cubs starter Jay Jackson. Brett Carroll and Taylor Green put together back-to-back, one-out singles to put runners on the corners for Gamel, who put Nashville on the board with an RBI double to center. After Nieves popped out, Gindl ripped a two-run single to right to give the visitors the lead. Butler left the game early due to injury for Nashville. He was carted off the field during the bottom of the fourth inning after Iowa catcher Chris Robinson smacked a line-drive single off the pitcher's lower right leg, which was immobilized on the field. It marked the second time this season that Butler departed a game early; he took a line drive off his head during an April 19th outing in New Orleans. Nashville increased its advantage to 4-2 in the top of the fifth. Donovan Hand led off with a single to center, moved to second on Eric Farris' PCL-leading 11th sacrifice bunt of the year, and scored when Brown laced an RBI single to left, which extended the outfielder's hitting streak to nine games. He has driven in a run in six of his last seven contests. The Sounds put the game on ice in the seventh, when they tacked on five more scores as the first seven batters of the frame all reached base against Cubs pitching. Nashville batted around in the inning to up its lead to 9-2. Pinch-hitter extraordinaire Erick Almonte got the rally started when he plated Gindl (double) and Edwin Maysonet (bunt single) with a double to the wall in right-center that made it a 6-2 game and chased Jackson from the contest. Justin Berg took over on the Iowa hill and was greeted by a Farris single before Brown doubled off the base of the wall in left-center to drive in Almonte for a 7-2 lead. The right-hander then issued consecutive walks to Carroll and Green, the second of which forced home Farris with Nashville's fourth run of the inning - all with no outs recorded. Brown scored the Sounds' final run of the five-run seventh when he trotted home on Gamel's bases-loaded double play grounder. Nashville tacked on the game's last run in the ninth when Brown scored on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly off the bat of Nieves to make it 10-2. Sounds relievers retired the final 12 Cubs batters in order to close out the victory. Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Mitch Stetter made his second rehab appearance for the Sounds by working a perfect bottom of the ninth, throwing 11 pitches in the frame. Hand (2-4) picked up the win in relief of the injured Butler, working 2 1/3 scoreless frames for the Sounds. Jackson (5-9) absorbed the loss for Iowa after surrendering seven runs on 10 hits over six-plus innings of work. The Sounds will look to complete their second series sweep of the season when the teams wrap up the four-game set with a 7:05 p.m. finale on Thursday. Left-hander Sam Narron (4-4, 3.79) will take the hill for the Sounds to face Iowa right-hander Casey Coleman (3-2, 4.07). Nashville box scoreJust awful luck this year for Butler. The recap makes it sound like he has a broken leg, unfortunately. It's great that Eric Farris leads the league in sac bunts and all, but it's a little perverse that he's doing it despite Don Money inexplicably batting him leadoff all year--imagine how many he'd have if he was batting 6th! Final: Chattanooga 3, @Huntsville 1 Huntsville box scoreAs was pointed out just above, Wily Peralta twirled a phenomenal game, and could have even gone back out for the 8th. As it stood, though, it was in the 9th that the Stars really needed him; Santo Manzanillo pitched a perfect 8th, handing a tie game to Rob Wooten, who promptly untied it by giving up a two-out, two-run homer. Huntsville got two hits off the Lookouts' excellent closer Josh Lindblom, whom I wanted the Brewers to draft in 2008, but it was for naught. Hainley Statia, still just 25, had a fine night, cracking his first homer since 2009 to go with a single and a walk; he's now hitting .279 with decent patience, albeit no power. Zelous Wheeler also had two hits, and Logan Schafer was on twice with a single and a walk. Erik Komatsu had a bad game, 0-5 with two strikeouts.Huntsville play-by-play The bottom of the 9th was promising but quickly snuffed out. Final: DSL Brewers 7, @DSL Athletics 3 DSL Brewers box score17-year-old RHP Gian Rizzo and 16-year-old SS Orlando Arcia continue to steal the show. Rizzo went six innings, allowing just one run on seven hits and a walk while fanning five, and now has a precocious 43/8 K/BB in 42 professional innings. Arcia collected two hits for the sixth time in his last seven games, one of them a double, which pushed his line to a sterling .316/.403/.504, including 17 walks against just 11 strikeouts. Crazy kids. Two other crazy kids, Esthervin Matos and Elvis Rubio, were both absent from the lineup after not starting game two yesterday. Raul Mondesi is mentioned by official sources more than any other Cervecerito, one suspects mostly because of his name, since he's never hit much; nevertheless, he was the only player besides Arcia to reach more than once today, with a single and a walk.
