  1. Tomorrow is a must win. Definitely. If we don't win we have no chance at the playoffs.
  2. Well, at least their offense scored 6 runs. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing the same lineup out there tomorrow, except with Estrada in Miller's place.
  3. Oh Yost and his 360 F-bomb, gotta love it.
  4. Is it me, or have we not had the best lineup possible put out there the past few games? Wednesday was absolutely crap and tonight doesn't seem much better. If you could tell me a better lineup, I'd love to hear it. Miller is playing because he's raked against Maddux in his career with a fairly big sample size.
  5. And Bill Hall doesn't have anywhere near the range or experience that Gwynn has in center. It is downright silly to have Hall in CF and Gwynn in RF I'm sick of watching this argument, so I'm gonna jump and defend RyDogg. You have to realize Bill Hall is gonna rake for a centerfielder and that's his permanent position. Moving him out of CF is downright stupid right now because he is still in his adjustment period. Gwynn may never even be a major league starter, so that would be quite dumb to move Gwynn into Hall's position just because Gwynn is better defensively RIGHT NOW than Hall. I agree that Gwynn shouldn't be playing a corner outfield for this team right now, he should be playing the role he played earlier this year, and that's a bench guy who can pinch hit and maybe start a rally. Gross should be playing right field against righties if Yost is so stuck on benching Hart.
  6. Another start for Gwynn over Gross, ugh.
  7. For some reason, last night I was not at all disappointed in losing a close game. Maybe it's because I was once again pleased with Sheets' pitching performance, and the fact that LA is a good team. Let's reward my newfound maturity with a victory tonight!
  8. OK, Pierre seriously has the worst arm in the league by far.
  9. And of course it costs us a run. Stupid Estrada.
  10. Also, how was Prince's drop an error??? I thought someone had to advance a base for an error to occur? No, the rule is that even if its in foul territory, a missed catch is an error.
  11. Sheets is locating his fastball superbly so far. All of those fastballs were basically painting the outside corner.
  12. There is something to a guy who has a winning mentality. It means I will bear down and shut a team down if that's what it takes to win.when your team needs it, REGARDLESS of whether or not they are on a "winning" team. Case in point, last year the Cubs were 66-96, YET Carlos Zambrano was 16-7. So....techically a good pitcher on a bad team (like people argue Ben Sheets was for many years) CAN actually win. Do you EVER look at any stats? Zambrano went 16-7 with an ERA+ of 136, which is obviously very good. But the main reason he won 16 games on a bad team is because his team scored 5.83 runs a game during his starts. On the other hand, Sheets in 2004 had an ERA+ of 154 which is basically God-like, and his team averaged a measly 3.54 runs a game! Hmm, that's over a 2 run difference in support. My guess is that may have contributed to his low win total more than not being "grittier" than Zambrano. Don't you remember his 1 hitter against the Angels in 9 innings, but didn't get the win cause we didn't score til the 18th?
  13. I get your point DHonks, but I think it's more that Scully gives a very interesting background of a player on the opposing team, instead of just saying that they're "gritty" and a "battler."
  14. No, the Cubs will fall down the 6.5 down if we win.
  15. Wow, offense how I've missed thee!
  16. Rickie is SMASHING the ball tonight.
  17. Too bad Counsell can't bat every time with the bases loaded.
  18. OK, my argument for strikeouts vs. putting the ball in play: 2004 Boston Red Sox- led the league in strikeouts and won the World Series with a spectacular offense Adam Dunn Bill Hall last season Andruw Jones I'm pretty Grady Sizemore strikes out a fair share etc. EDIT: I'm obviously not trying to condone K's as a good thing, they're still outs. Just not nearly as bad as everyone says.
  19. Estrada gets a bloop single, refusing to walk there. Tomko threw 3 balls on ball 3, and Estrada swung at all of them.
  20. I'm glad Ned Yost is the manager and not you. I'll take a .300 hitting batter in the 5-spot on my team any day of the week. Sorry to always pick on you bucksman, but we have a better option for the 5 slot, that being Geoff Jenkins. There are more to stats than batting .300, such as Jenkins slugging almost .600 so far this year, with a much higher OBP.
  21. Who complained about my Johnny in the 5-hole? All you stats geeks can eat it! It was a nice homer, but us "stat geeks" like to look at more than one at-bat.
