  1. I hope you're not just going by runs, because the Brewers having an above average offense and bad pitching staff would, y'know, increase that. By Park Factors on Fangraphs Miller Park has been ~104 over the last 3 seasons, so 4% above league average. http://www.fangraphs.com/guts.aspx?type=pf&season=2014&teamid=0
  2. I think he meant that you have to have a guy for the full year to offer him the QO. So if we traded Yovani in July, the other team wouldn't have the QO option.
  3. Mark Buehrle (37) A.J. Burnett (39) Chris Capuano (37) Bartolo Colon (43) R.A. Dickey (41) – $12MM club option with a $1MM buyout Marco Estrada (32) Doug Fister (32) Gavin Floyd (33) Jeremy Guthrie (37) – $10MM mutual option with a $3.2MM buyout J.A. Happ (33) Aaron Harang (38) Dan Haren (35) Tim Hudson (40) Hisashi Iwakuma (35) Scott Kazmir (32) John Lackey (37) Cliff Lee (37) – $27.5MM club/vesting option with a $12.5MM buyout Tim Lincecum (32) Kyle Lohse (37) Mike Pelfrey (32) Alfredo Simon (35) Ryan Vogelsong (38) Jerome Williams (34) Chris Young (37) Who ya got? There's only one guy on that list I'd want.... and that's for pure comedy gold.
  4. I want nothing to do with him. I guess I don't understand the interest. I'd rather see the front office rebuilt and someone with actual vision (and not a billionaire owner funding the team) brought in.
  5. It's tough to judge him in CF.... I'm going Friday, hopefully I'll get a good look sitting in the Terrace Box. However, after 8 years of some of the best CF MLB had to offer (Cameron and Gomez) it's going to be tough to put a line on things.
  6. Doesn't that make him Brady Clark?
  7. They better have more details by now if they plan on breaking ground in October! The initial 2-3 months of breaking ground will be simply removing the old freeway infrastructure and rerouting/rebuilding the sewer system -- which won't really chance no matter what it looks like above there.
  8. Ross has the weirdest ERA splits I've seen from a Padres pitcher. 4.47 ERA at Home. 2.63 on the road. That's just amazing.
  9. Here in Manitowoc/Two Rivers we have the Mariners Trail which goes along the lake and next to Memorial Drive. My wife and I get incredibly frustrated by bikers who ride on the road when there is a perfectly good trail. Memorial Drive is 45 MPH with a few roads to turn on to. I understand walkers being a hassle but the trail is there for a reason. http://www.wdc-online.org/index.php/wdc-journal/wdc-journal-archive/summer-2011/liability-considerations-in-bicycle-accident-cases-a-bike-law-refresher The idea that you're more important or better because you drive and that somehow, your time is more valuable than my safety, is amazing to me.
  10. Can Mark Kotsay come play CF for a couple months?
  11. I'll take a moment and try to explain the reasoning to you, being a cyclist and someone who used to regularly go that route, biking with any sort of speed is completely impossible on that path, due to the sheer incompetence of people who are running and walking and biking side by side and taking up the entire path. It's much safer for ME as well as the runners and walkers for me to be on the road when I am clipped in and cruising.
  12. That the argument, "He's hitting .270" somehow is the trump card and means Jean Segura is a good hitter to my friends.
  13. This is Doug Melvin's job...he doesn't miss calls and even if he does I bet it takes moments to call back. This is what these guys do. If you can write an email or send a text you could have called. Yep. It's what they do. Good thing Doug has his trusty hammer to pound those nails. Hopefully there aren't any screws to turn on the job.
  14. Personally, I love the number system, it's easy to tell what numbers do what -- even interstates are east/west, Odds are North/South. For prefixes, even's are bypasses of areas and odd prefixes are spurs into areas. As someone who drives through Chicago twice a year, I have no idea what the names of their highways are, and would have no idea where I was traveling on that mass of concrete without the numbers system.
  15. Two notes, first, that's why you trade guys early. Second, on the homerun to right center that went 400 feet, Braun broke in on the ball.
  16. WAR has major sample size issues with defense as it is let alone using small samples for everything. If a guy plays 3 games and goes 3 for 9 with an intentional walk and has one great defensive play his WAR is going to look might good. That in no way implies he is truly better than Segura. I seriously doubt there are a number of bench or utility guys who are actually better than Segura. If WAR says they are then it's time to look at what WAR really tells us. IMHO not much. No, that isn't true at all. WAR is a counting stat. The more you play, the more you accumulate. You can't have a "Mighty good WAR" after 3 games. Segura since the start of June 2013: BA: .260 OBP: .296 SLG: .343 OPS: .639
  17. I'm 6'1, 195 lbs and share your desire to walk the course and carry my clubs. My whole family is actually that way. There are some courses that the cart is included with the green fee and I will still walk it, especially when it is 90 degree or carts on path. I've also noticed I find a lot more balls when I walk the course. I've always preferred FootJoy shoes. I usually spend $75 - $115 on shoes and they last for 3-5 years before they start falling apart and no longer are waterproof enough for morning dew or if it does happen to rain a little bit. During the summer, I probably go golfing at least once a week, so you can figure out the number of uses from there. My next pair will be a FootJoy. My brother is 6'1" and 215 and he just switched over to Puma. I'm pretty sure he is happy with his selection. If you really want an off the wall recommendation, my dad (6'2" 220 lbs) just switched from FootJoy to Allen Edmonds. He is in love with their work shoes in terms of comfort and their durability. When he saw they made golf shoes, he immediately bought a pair last year. Those I want to say were more like $275 but you can get them re-crafted rather than buying a new pair when they start to wear. The best advice I can give anyone is if you plan to buy good shoes, don't skimp on the insoles. Go get fitted for some superfeet or something similar. They are amazing.
  18. Got in trouble trying to spike fan interest by trading "unknown" prospects for "name" veterans, trading a long-term strategy for immediate gratification. What it took the Brewer management several years to accomplish, the Padres did in one offseason. I think we should wait more than half a season to determine is what Preller did was a disaster. I'm pretty sure Justin Upton is the only guy they acquired that is gone after this season so it's not like they gutted the farm system for only 1 season. It was an unmitigated disaster. From the article:
  19. It's a pretty amazing documentary. I cannot believe how much those guys carried on their backs (I might top out at 40lbs on my heaviest day, one of them was pushing 70 with all the camera gear).
  20. Basically, outside of 3 months in 2013, Segura hasn't been a competent MLB player.
  21. Quoting myself, in bad taste, but this thread has been dormant for too long. I'm 5 weeks out from my trip, almost as prepared as I could be, and completely excited and nervous at the same time.
  22. B.M: "Can you see yourself retiring here?" Luc: "To me this game is about winning, and we haven't won here since 2011."
  23. The only option to them is if the stadium does not get built, the team is sold back to the NBA. Period. Otherwise, I have no doubt, they would've already sold the team to Seattle for a billion dollars.
