  1. Are you sure you aren't talking about Uecker? I loved Joe, sad to see him go. It's odd that people complain about his blandness when he's by himself, considering, I believe, only two broadcasts do that anymore in MLB. Milwaukee and the Dodgers.
  2. Seeing my baseball friends again in the Molitor Lot... all those rabble rousers, hecklers, and grillers. Firing up my tiny grill and making amazing food for family and friends. That feeling on a summer evening, while cracking open a good beer and biting into a brat and knowing there's really nowhere else I'd rather be at that moment. Sitting at a game with my Dad while he questions "Who the heck is that guy?" and having my Mom chirp in and explain it to him (I'm not sure when she became a diehard fan, sometime during 2008, I think).
  3. Which one are you talking about? This one? http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/885/930/brewers_display_image.jpg
  4. How is shouting "air ball" or "you can't do that" an insult? If someone shoots an air ball and the crowd starts chanting "You are fat! You are fat!" then we can talk. Also, having been to many HS boys basketball games over the years I can pretty much guarantee 500 people don't chant. More like 50 maybe. And it lasts all of ten seconds. I stand by my comment. All rules like this accomplish is preventing teenagers from learning how to deal with situations in which someone dares to not treat them like a delicate little flower. How many in the last 5? It's gotten worse. Much worse. Airball is the least of the problems, and the easiest line to be drawn is any chant against the opponent or any derogatory chant what so ever. Watching kids chanting against an opposing goalkeeper, "Fatty five hole" after the kid gave up a goal.... well, yeah. Again, this rule has been around for 20 years, at least in the Madison School district.
  5. Yes, because 500 people shouting insults and taunting opposing players is good for a 14 year old kid. I bet you played a lot of sports growing up, I did too. How often did you have people individually targeting your personal flaws and shouting insults at you from the stands? Times have changed, hyper-competitive and obnoxious fans (parents included) have made enforcement of things like this necessary.
  6. Pretty sure, 20 years ago now (man I'm getting older) when I was in HS in Madison, no negative chants what so ever were allowed. Whether that was "AIRBALL" or anything else derogatory towards the opponent -- "Scoreboard" was not allowed either. Not surprised by any of this.
  7. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-impending-battle-over-the-future-of-televised-baseball/ Surprised this hasn't gotten more attention around, well, everywhere. Being a guy who refuses to play for cable, and uses a VPN to watch the Brewers on MLB.tv's streaming service, I'm rooting against MLB on this one.... Although the economic result of non-localized TV deals could be very interesting, and cause our local MLB team to fall even further behind the giants (Yankees, Red Sox) of the industry.
  8. I cannot believe they have a 10 player limit on HoF voting. If someone is a hall of famer, they should be able to be voted for. Cannot believe that once again, Tim Raines got denied entry. As for the "Steroids are illegal, no hall of famers" argument: Cocaine and Methamphetamine were illegal in the USA. Many players used them to help get up for games. Should we remove them from the Hall of Fame?
  9. That was a Tuesday. I remember getting done playing softball, and rushing to try to watch the end of the game.... then hearing Uke call the walk off and multiple people on the road all hitting their horns in excitement. I'd say my biggest non-clinch, non-playoff memory was Sheets out dueling Peavy in 2008. I was at that game, and Sheeter was amazing. 120 pitches. Never was the same after that game. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/print.jsp?ymd=20080906&content_id=3429852&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil
  10. Saw it Friday in a mostly empty theater in Menomenee falls which was awesome - my movie experience wasn't ruined by people questioning the movie or loudly explaining 'homages' during scenes -- yes a friend had this happen.
  11. There was hope going into last season. The listed attendance was upwards of 30k for many games in August/Sept, while the actual attendance was probably 15,000 for some of those weeknight games. This year, the scalpers and season ticket holders won't be having that big of an effect. I'd wager, 1,894,672.
  12. Was at the game last night (vs Golden State). The BC was rockin'. Electric atmosphere and an all around amazing game from quite a few guys.
  13. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/jason-heyward-as-a-center-fielder/ http://sports.cbsimg.net/images/visual/whatshot/HeywardCatch.gif I think he'll be fine out there.
  14. It was a great ending, but the Bucks should've won it going away. The Bucks were up 6 with 6 minutes to go, and proceeded to give up a 12-0 run to go down 6 requiring the end of game heroics. The defense has really stepped it up over the last 6 games (without Vasquez), giving up sub-90 points per game, compared to the 6 games previous where they gave up over 110 on average.
  15. http://www.hardballtimes.com/maybe-players-arent-aging-differently-after-all/ http://www.hardballtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/chart_aging_b2r-650x488.png Because you remember the famous single old PED user, doesn't mean the aging curves have changed at all. Sorry, I see this a lot and it just bugs me.
  16. American vs British English is the main difference there. Same as some words that throw an extra U in there, like colour. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_and_British_English_spelling_differences#-ise.2C_-ize_.28-isation.2C_-ization.29
  17. Congrats!!! Nice job! It's amazing how finding the right pace can completely change how effective you can be when doing something for endurance (something I've learned very well hiking)
  18. It wasn't when Brandon Knight was here. Nope. They were 20th in the league when Knight was traded at 1.007 Points per possession. Still terrible. As close to 28th as to 13th (.986 and 1.0028)
  19. Do you really think guys aren't doing PEDs right now? Of course they are. Just because Bonds was a once in a generation freak of nature doesn't mean the aging curves have changed that much in 15 years.
  20. That about sums it up Geezy. They could also get by on offense if they got to the line a ton every night, but that's not happening either. In theory, Giannis, Parker, MCW call all get to the rim- you would think they could/should draw more fouls. Monroe and Henson could draw more fouls in the post. Not the best recipe to depend on for offense, but at least it would be something to hang your hat on. Just amazing how just a couple changes in the course of a year ruined both their offense and defense. Their offense was terrible last year as well. Kidd is trying to run a late 90's offense when the defensive rules have completely changed (no more illegal defense). There's a reason the good offensive teams move the ball and constantly use pick and rolls instead of spending 10 seconds trying to throw the ball into the high post to iso a guy.
  21. $/WAR for free agents has gone up 50% in the last 10 years alone -- from just under 5, to nearly 7.5M per WAR this season. He could very well be worth his contract in 7 years.
  22. Bayless did a good job starting tonight. I also think MCW and Parker looked much better coming off the bench. Maybe its better to limit Giannis and Parker playing together since their games are similar. I think the biggest thing is not playing MCW/Giannis/Jabari and Monroe/Henson all together. Having only 1 shooter on the floor really mucks everything up offensively.
  23. I'll be happy if Vasquez doesn't see the court again this season. I want no part of him playing meaningful minutes. He's absolutely terrible on the defensive end and he pounds the air out of the ball on offense.
