    This Braves/Phillies game is an old school one where neither manager wants to pull their starter.

    Currently $220 to get actual seats in San Diego next week, less for standing room. Seems high, I'm going to wait it out. The Padres have so many season ticket holders that almost nothing makes it to public sale.

    Who are they going to start against Miz on Saturday? Buehler? Robbie Ray? Michael King looked pretty good and can go games 2 and 5. They have Pivetta for game 3. But they don't have anyone for games 1 and 4. If both teams were starting fresh I would be worried, but the advantage we get with the bye will tilt the series in our favor.

    They have too big of a lead and will save the leverage arms, otherwise I think it would happen.

    I’m enjoying the beat down with Craig squirming in the dugout. The Cubs’ pitching does not belong in the postseason, I don’t care how good the Padres look against it.

    Let this be a warning sign for hiring a team legend as your manager. It's been clear for a long time that Dan is a great guy but a poor manager. Everybody knew he was done at the end of the year and it was going to be sold as one of those "chose to step down" type decisions. A change was needed mid-season, but they were basically stuck with him because of his stature within the organization. Rodriguez tossing the ball into the stands with 2 outs in that 22-0 game against Milwaukee was not an isolated incident. The team was mentally checked out for the majority of the season. We'll never know if a different manager could have turned things around mid-season. There was more than enough talent on the Seattle roster to finish with more than 81 wins.

    Strongly agree with this -- Murph seems to have a pulse on the clubhouse and knows when to hit the right buttons. It's not one fixed style either -- each of the last three iterations of the Brewers has looked and felt a little different. The first year had the Wily Adames energy and fun. Last year was the "win it for Ueck" year -- a team that was grieving but loaded with unsung heroes. This year it's all business. Whatever Murph said to these guys in that closed door meeting after the Padres series won him the award. I get the impression that it's largely a player-lead clubhouse (made official perhaps with Yelich getting the C), but Murph knows the right moments to interject.

    I think that logic works down the line as well. You want Henderson to go game 2 so that he's available out of the bullpen in game 5 if necessary. I get OP's logic. Your opponent is going to throw their #1 in games 2 and 5, so why not put Miz against them. That's where having the strong #2 comes in handy to put against the opponent's #1. Assuming it's the Padres, I'd do a Patrick opener to Gasser in game 3 to attack their platoon vulnerabilities against LHP. Then start May on a short leash in G4, followed by a lefty reliever to attack their platoons again.

    I'm biased since I live in San Diego...I want to see them come play here. Main rooting interest should be that the series goes 3 games and both teams burn as much pitching as possible. We have a massive advantage in pitching depth over either of them. The reality is also that even with our massive advantage there's still like a 30% chance of losing the DS, so if that's to the Cubs it would be pretty brutal.

    Running the table in the meaningless games is a real cherry on top of this regular season. This team is on a mission.

    Vogey seems like a good vibes guy as well. Can't deny the results either, you don't become the #2 offense in baseball by accident.

    Arizona is only going to be one back of Philly if they hold on, and they have the tiebreaker.

    Or, as we know all too well, they have an unfortunate bad break in the short wild card round and they are golfing 4 days after the postseason starts.

    If I could change one thing it would be to make the division series 7 games. Easily done if they would cut out a few unnecessary off days. I don’t care what gimmicks they do for the Wild Card round(s) but once it’s down to the actual good teams it should take 4 wins to knock them out.

    Everybody knew they were far better than 2025 on Opening Day, the concern was that the summer hot streak from 2025 couldn’t be repeated. Turns out that concern was correct, but when you’re consistently good for all 6 months it adds up to more total wins.

    100 has to be a lower probability outcome for a small market than winning a pennant. You can get hot in the playoffs, but winning 100 games??? Nobody at all has done it since 2023.
