  1. Hit tracker (via ESPN) is calling the Phillips bomb 480 ft. Third-longest of the season behind Hamilton (485 ft) and Colby Rasmus (483 ft). Edit: I believe that also ties 3TO for the longest HR in Miller Park history, but that is unconfirmed.
  2. I love that the article called the Brewers a "mid-market". I take that as a major compliment.
  3. When I visited Miami, I was surprised at the fan support for the Marlins. People are scared away from the ballpark because of the rain (up to 50% of the games have rain delays), the poor amenities, and the bad location.Unfortunately, the new stadium will also have accessibility issues, but they should see some improvement. I was also reading that the Red Sox will lose their #1 TV ratings ranking due to their significant decline. The Royals do surprisingly well considering how terrible they are.
  4. San Jose Sharks. One of these years they will break through and win it all.
  5. If they can get to .500 in 2-3 weeks and the Reds/Cards do nothing, they should get their playoff chance up to 5% or so. I'll be happy if they can recover to get a 5th 80-win season in the last 6 years.
  6. I finally sit down to watch a Brewers game after being busy for a week and...its BLANK!!! Stupid Charter!!! Edit: It works now
  7. Looks like the roof was closed at Miller Park, but Miller Park Way got the worst of it. There was probably flooding in the basement again also. Photo
  8. Another huge sewer overflow is ongoing. This might be one of the biggest ones ever (since the deep tunnel).
  9. The area around Miller Park got 4-5" of rain.
  10. They aren't going anywhere, unless MLB wants to give the finger to Nolan Ryan and a good baseball town. The weather is a big issue that hides the fan support. Look at the Florida Marlins--they are near the bottom of the league in attendance but have solid TV ratings.
  11. This game reminds me of some of the Brewers/Cubs games from the late 90's. Nobody wants to win!
  12. Do we actually have any evidence that Macha lost respect in the clubhouse?
  13. Although Macha (wisely) does not participate in meaningless bean-balling, I expect that the time has come to retaliate. They are the ones in the playoff race, not us.
  14. Yeah, the deep tunnel is about as good of a system as you can get. The real pollutant is the excessive phosphorous from poor farming practices/policy. The phosphorous ban in lawn fertilizer and detergent should help a little bit.
  15. The HR derby risks becoming the slam-dunk contest if they keep this up. I personally do not plan on watching the whole thing. It is missing 1) the historically good HR hitters and 2) this year's best HR hitters. It is missing most of the top stars: Pujols, Howard, Josh Hamilton, and Prince. It only has 2 of the top 10 HR hitters from 2010. That's absolutely pathetic. The fanfare from ESPN has been low as well (primarily due to the World Cup). This should be one of the most boring and lowest-rated HR derbies in recent memory. For the record, I'm predicting Miguel Cabrera with Vernon Wells as the runner-up. Ortiz will get tired after the first round.
  16. I agree--Trade Fielder, sign Hart to a long-term deal.
  17. I really enjoyed seeing Ichiro play this year. Count me in as a big fan of Interleague Play, although I wish we would only play the Twins one series/year. Anyone remember Opening Day in 2002? I think it was a Friday night game. Glendon Rusch hit a 3-run bomb to beat the defending champs.
  18. Great game. Small crowd for a Friday, but about 90% stuck around for the end. Can we please steal more bases?
  19. It's impossible, even if they pull a miracle and make the playoffs. They are down about 3,000 fans per game compared with 2009. However, this year's attendance has almost nothing to do with the poor play on the field. Attendance always follows the previous year's performance on the field. Attendance next year is almost guaranteed to be under 2.5 million, even if they make a big free agent signing.
  20. The lack of defense should be priority #1. Why would any free agent pitcher want to sign here? Out of the top 12 defensive teams in MLB, 11 are serious playoff contenders. Toronto is the only team out of contention, and they are 42-43.
  21. I'm not a fan of the buy/sell dichotomy. I do not like the Brewers to be called "sellers". It makes us sound like the Royals or something. What we really are is "Buyers for 2011".
  22. Wow, 15-1. Plus, we still have 10 outs to get. Now I know what the Pirates fans felt like.
  23. I should have known better and turned it off after the top 1st. I just hope they show up on Friday night.
