  1. Ouch! Not a big fan of Gagne right now. I guess he isn't very good pitching four straight games in a row.
  2. What's the point of having 14 pitchers on your team if you are going to let Gagne pitch for a fourth straight day?
  3. Cubs fans are fine upstanding folks. Look for a Steve Bartman day at Wrigley soon to give them a chance to apologize to the guy.
  4. I'm fine with the trade. I don't have the stats at my fingertips to prove it, but I watched every game last year and I don't recall Bill Hill ever getting a big hit to help us win. He never made a great defensive play. He was not a good influence in the clubhouse because he is not gritty nor is he a battler. Bill Hill is un-clutch. Good riddance!
  5. Mass, Why isn't Escobar, Palmisano and Hinton eligible for the draft? Escobar signed in 2003 at age 16 - so this is his fifth rule 5 draft. Capt Lou signed in 2003 at age 20 - so this is his fifth rule 5 draft. Hinton signed in 2004 at age 19 - so this is his fourth rule 5 draft. What am I missing? From the Brewerfan FAQ (updated rules in italics): How does the "Rule 5 Draft" work? A player is eligible for the offseason Rule 5 draft if he is not on the 40-man Major League Roster if he was 18 or younger when he first signed a pro contract and this is the fifth[/i] Rule 5 draft since he signed or if he was 19 or older when he first signed a pro contract and this is the fourth[/i] Rule 5 draft since he signed.
  6. They could drop Mike Jones or Drew Anderson from the 40 to make room.
  7. This is my understanding. The Brewers have 10 days to either trade, release, or outright him to the minors. There is little point in outrighting him to the minors since I believe he is a six year minor league free agent. According to Cot's, So does this mean that if he is traded to another team, he is not going to be a free agent? Seems kind of odd, but I can't explain why a team would be interested in trading for him is he is going to be a free agent. If anyone has any better understanding on this, please chime in. This is awfully confusing.
  8. Next year he'll be 27 and out of options. I hope DM can work some magic and get a nugget back in a trade. However, I'm not expecting much.
  9. I believe these guys are eligible: Alcides Escobar (#11 on Power 50) - AA Lou Palmisano (#14) - AA Charlie Fermaint (#18) - A+ Robert Hinton (#21) - AA Callix Crabbe (#25) - AAA Tim Dillard (#28) - AAA Adam Heether (#36) - AA Steve Sollman (#38) - AA Steve Bray (#45) - AAA Steve Moss (#49) - AA Marino Salas - AAA Luis Pena - AA Bo Hall - AA Jeff Housman - AA Sam Narron - AA Vince Perkins - AA David Johnson - AA Carlos Corporan - AA Josh Wahpepah - A+ I think Escobar, Palmisano and Crabbe will be added. Depending on which free agents we keep, there may be quite a few spots on the 40 man open, so a few more of these may also be added.
  10. I did not see this posted yet. Baseball America published a list of best tools in the NL. Link Brewers are well represented. Here are the highlights... Best Power: #1 - Fielder Best Fastball: #3 - Turnbow Best Curveball: #1 - Sheets Best Control: #3 - Sheets Best Pickoff Move: #1 - Capuano Best Reliever: #3 - Cordero and last but not least... Best Manager: #3 Ned Yost! Huh? Are we not giving him enough credit?
  11. The way he is pitching, the brewers are going to have a hard time dropping Gallardo from the rotation to limit his innings. They will continue to keep his pitch count per start below 100 which I think is more important than total innings. Just a side note: Villanueva threw 50 more innings in 2006 than he did in 2005 and his arm didn't fall off.
  12. I'm shocked the Padres did not ask for any hitters back. Tony Gwynn is an improvement over Sledge (and would be a big PR move for SD). I'm Ok with the trade but I just hate giving up Inman. This does follow with DM's philosophy of trading - Sell High, Buy Low. Garrison and Thatcher are probably having their career years and Linebrink just got beat up recently and the Pads bumped him from being their 8th inning setup guy. This trade doesn't happen if Linebrink had a better July. If I was a Padres fan, I would be mad. Playoff teams don't trade for prospects.
  13. Has Sheffield ever been happy? He gets to "play" for a living and is paid an obscene amount of money to do it, yet he's always complaining to the media. I guess some people will never be happy. My favorite line from the article:
  14. obobo makes some good points but I think they are reason FOR the adopt a prospect. Sure there will be those who will adopt the top prospects and report on them, but I think there will be more who will adopt some of the lesser known guys. Just take a look at those who have already put in dibs for players. Not one of the top 10 prospects were mentioned. They were mainly the 20-30 range prospects. If I had a choice, I would pick M. Brantley because I am intrigued with his ability and want to learn more about him. That's why I suggested this in the first place. The Brewers have a ton of mid level prospects that I know very little about. It is true that I could get it from the Link report, but I don't always have the time to go through the whole report each day to see how some of my favorites are doing. It would be great if all I had to do was go to the adopt a prospect forum and find all the info in one place! Yes, this may fizzle out after a while, but is that a reason for not doing it? It could also turn out to be one of the most popular features. What's the harm in just trying this out.
  15. Mass, You make some good points, but what I was originally thinking was that we would have one thread where discussion about that prospect can occur. This would make it easy for someone to find out what's new with a prospect (sort of a one stop shop). Also, we have lots of "How good of a prospect is..." threads in the minor league forum. These quickly get buried in the forum and we end up having lots of duplicate threads. This would organize that a bit. You are right that there could be some redundancy with this and other features (such as daily link report and even the player page). The daily link report is great to read but it contains info on all the players. Its tough to find out the latest news on a particular player. The player page would be a great place to put this, but that would be the responsibility of Brian (or whoever updates that). That would be a lot of work to do for all P50+ prospects. Brewerfan.net staff does a amazing job keeping us up to date, but I am sure that is a lot of work. By adopting players, the responsibility could be spread out a bit. I certainly don't want to replace any features. Instead I think this would complement them. I also think it would be a lot of fun for the "player owners" and would likely drum up more participation and interest to the site.
  16. lol, I love it! You'll have all these posters rooting for a higher P50 slot for their adopted prospects. Should make for some interesting discussions. So, it looks like everyone is on board with this. How do we get it started? Note: I'm not looking for extra things to do, but I don't want to just suggest an idea and dump all the work onto someone else. If I can be of help in coming up with rules or whatever, I'll be glad to. Just let me know. edit: Oh man, I should have waited 10 minutes longer to post this.
  17. Glad to hear the interest. I think a new forum would be best (as long as Brian is OK with setting it up). Not sure how we determine who adopts which prospect. First come first served? (If so, I got dibs on Michael Brantley). Also, I suggest some rules be established for posting so there is some consistency and fairness. For reference, this is from sons of sam horn: This is a good starting point. We can customize it from here. Any comments/suggestions?
  18. One of my favorite features of Sons of Sam Horn site is the "Adopt a prospect" forum. Link Essentially, a member selects a prospect and reports on that player on a regular basis. Other people can chime in and ask questions and add to the discussion of that prospect. It becomes a running thread on how that player is performing and how "prospect worthy" he is. Brian, have you considered this for Brewerfan.net? I would certainly volunteer to adopt a needy prospect. I'm sure we would have no problem finding people willing to adopt.
  19. I'm surprised Estrada has seen that many pitches/PA. The only reason I can think of is that he missed the first two.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. Nice analysis on Michael Brantley. Link He has been a fantastic OBP guy so far in his career. He could be the Brewers future leadoff hitter in a few years. At worst, he's Mike Felder as our 4th OF.
  21. Here's a little love from Rotoworld (from yesterday):
  22. I'm sorry, but there were two things in that article about Jenkins I found very humorous (underlined for effect): Obviously, I have underated Jenkins value to other teams. He makes it sound like it would take a blockbuster deal in order to obtain him. Maybe the writer works for Doug Melvin.
  23. According to Rotoworld, the Dodgers are looking to sign Randy Wolf which would make Brad Penny available. Would they be interested in Jenkins? I assume we would have to kick in more to get the deal done. As long as it does not include one of our top 3 prospects, it would be tempting. Penny would be a nice replacement for DD.
  24. Wow! Great job on the article. Really well written. These are the people that get forgotten in history ... and shouldn't.
