  1. Lopez is extremely lackadaisical defensively, especially being in a contract year. This team is flat out bad, headed by the pitching staff and followed by the defense as of late. Allowing 28 runs (possibly more to come) in a 3 game series against a team like the Padres is disgusting.
  2. Jeff Suppan is a rare breed MLB pitcher. There are very few pitchers and even less starting pitchers that have the combination of terrible stuff and terrible command. For all the good moves DM has made, the Suppan signing may end up being what he is remembered for. What a terrible, terrible move/contract for an at best 5th starter.
  3. After somehow swinging through the 89mph fastballs down the middle, that was the best AB I have seen Hall have in a very long time.
  4. Parra does still have options left, correct? If so I really hope he is sent down to Nashville as of tomorrow, cannot let this guy continue to pitch and expect to be a contender. That stupid lackadaisical look he always has on his face kind of makes me want to see Prince rearrange it.
  5. There was definitely a rule change, and I believe the rule change affected a Brewers @ Florida game a few years back. Does anyone know anything more about this?
  6. Good question, that was an absolutely doofus move by Macha, unless I'm overlooking something. The guy can't hit lefties, period. Don't set him up to fail. And I agree about the booing. Tasteless. The only right handed bat left was McGehee, who also was the emergency catcher in case Kendall got injured (Kendall came in for Rivera earlier in the game due to ankle injury). I believe this is why Macha had Nelson bat.
  7. Seriously Milwaukee Brewer fans, booing Nelson? Show some damn class, nobody is more pissed off than he is right now and I don't believe booing him will solve anything. That really angered me.
  8. We all know why Suppan is still starting, and we all know why he is still on our team....but really, isn't it time DM swallows his pride, and MA eats the payroll? Not only is there no spot on the Brewers for Suppan, there is no spot in MLB for a pitcher who has no stuff AND no command. That combination cannot be successful.
  9. Maybe he's already into the dead arm stage....then again, maybe he just got lit up, which wouldn't be his first blow up start...2007 @ colorado and 2007 @ san fran
  10. Brown used to be unable to discern between flyballs and home runs Uecker seems to have more and more trouble distinguishing between the two as well. I think that's partially why I liked Powell so much, he called a great game and never allowed something to transpire without thoroughly explaining it. Meanwhile, Uecker sometimes prioritizes his stories over the actual game. Close games I always looked forward to Powell's innings and lopsided games I always looked forward to Uecker's.
  11. He met with the Rangers yesterday according to Rosenthal, Rangers GM gave no indication if an offer was placed though. Sheets visits with Rangers
  12. I am not sure how anyone on this website, unless you have inside knowledge, would just assume that it is Doug who is making Sheets feel unwanted and not Sheets rejecting the Brewers attempts to bring him back. maybe it's safe to assume Melvin would like Sheets back, but I don't see Sheets returning unless it's a last-minute thing. This seems to be a common theme in this thread...but when has there been anything to suggest that Sheets is not interested in returning to Milwaukee? He rejected his arbitration offer, because at the time, it seemed as though he would be able to land a large contract somewhere. As far as I know, he has never expressed disinterest in returning to Milwaukee. At this point, unless a team becomes awfully generous, it makes the most sense for Sheets and the Brewers both if he returns to Milwaukee for 2 more years.
  13. I am still amazed at what Burnett got, when Sheets is apparently looking for a 2yr/18mil contract. One could easily argue that Sheets is the better option of the two. He's younger, he's at least as good if not better when both are healthy, and he's had less significant injuries and less injuries overall than Burnett. Obviously, the major difference is their current health....Sheet's not being able to complete the season healthy is literally costing him upwards of $50 million, ouch. If he really is looking for 2 yrs/18 mil........I hope DM is seriously considering it. He would solidify the rotation (for at least half the year), and make us serious competitors for the WC. Of course, it all depends on how healthy he really is right now....and our organization should know best.
  14. It sounds like the DBacks have some interest in Sheets If DM doesn't resign him, this would be the best possible outcome for the Brewers in my eyes. Dbacks have the 16th overall pick (highest possible pick we could receive since top 15 are protected). Of course, if he becomes a Brewer killer and shuts us down in the playoffs then this outcome wouldn't be so good.
  15. Sure would be nice if Powell is scanning the brewerfan threads....I know he's made reference to brewerfan on occasion...so maybe seeing how much our community appreciates his services will make it more difficult for him to part (if he ends up being offered the Braves job).
  16. Are the Braves replacing both their announcers from last year? Yes, after Carey passed away the other announcer (Pete Van Wieren) retired. Here is the link... http://www.ajc.com/blogs/...replacing_skip_and_p.html
  17. The lack of interest in Sheets baffles me, there really has been no substantial talk (that has surfaced at least) between Sheets and anyone. The Yankees were rumored for a bit.....but they are interested in everyone so that's not a surprise. Burnett is one year older and has certainly experienced more serious injuries in his past than Sheets, and he did not have a problem drawing interest ( I recall the Braves offering a large contract). At this point....I don't see any other teams signing him besides the Yankees or the Brewers. If this is the case, we all should be hopeful he lands with the us because I don't think anyone wants to be slapped in the face again by the Yankees (we would receive their 4th round pick+ compensation pick). A contract with a lot of incentives may be just what he needs.....
  18. Why is everyone acting like this is official? Speculation has been reported that the Braves are interested in Powell to be their lead guy........yet he hasn't commented and nothing has been confirmed. I would assume the Braves have more than just him in mind....
  19. Lets change the deal all together......Weeks, Cameron, Hall for Cano, Cabrera, Hughes
  20. 1250 is generally terrible, except for 11-2 when Rome is on. The local 1250 guys lack talent and any sort of knowledge in general. 540 is better locally, as the D-list presents hosts that can think logically.....but homer can get annoying in the afternoon. The 540 shows also have daily contributions from Tom Haudricourt and Jason Wilde during season (arguably the best brewers and packers beat writers).

  22. Now that we lost out on CC.....does anyone else think that Abreu would be a perfect fit for this lineup? Consistent lefty with a very high OBP......abreu, braun, fielder would be nice
  23. As I was trying to find information on Macha's coaching philosophies I came across some interesting audio from May 2nd 2007 when he was interviewed about the stresses/pressures of managing. Around the 3 minute mark he begins to really talk about his managing past, before that they talk about his new role as an analysis for the Red Sox. Most interesting of all, around the 8 minute mark he talks about the relationship between GM and manager (which he himself and Beane seemed to lack)....and he actually brings up Doug Melvin and Ned Yost as an example of a really good relationship. He really seems to respect the way Melvin stood by Yost. http://audio.weei.com/m/a.../ken_macha_ex_a_s_mgr.htm
  24. Hart and 3rd base. They cannot rely on the platoon of Counsell and Hall again next year, unless if Hall could somehow return to 2005-2006 offensive #'s he obviously wouldn't be a problem. I think they should look for a starting 3rd baseman to take the job on...but I wouldn't be so quick to unload Hall because of his versatility. He almost seems to be best when he's bouncing around from position to position filling in for injured/giving guys a day off. For Hart, I would really like to see them make a run at Bobby Abreu...of course only if its a reasonable contract because he'll be 35 to start next season. His production and patients at the plate would be huge to have in our lineup (OBP of .400 or higher 9 of the last 12 seasons and 100 RBI or more 7 of the past 12). I really believe they should trade Hart while he still has some considerable value.....a package of Hart and a combination of players for a #2 starter would be nice.
  25. As it's already been stated, the way to get at Moyer is to try and wait back and go to opposite field. I honestly cannot recall a time this entire season that Mike Cameron has even put the ball in play to opposite field. However, does anyone remember how good Bill Hall used to be at going to the opposite field gap? (The year he hit .290 and was arguably our team MVP)......I sense a big game from Billy.
