  1. you want to trade for Kouzmanoff? the guy who had, what, a .300 obp last year? and, you want to deal escobar because he is "overvalued," well if that's the case, we should deal hardy as quickly as we can
  2. Any idea why rumors have said Melvin is not interested in Hoffman? Do you think Hoffman doesn't want to come here? Wants a multi-year offer? If he would accept a 1 year 6 million-ish dollar offer to come to milwaukee, i think that would be a good fit for the brewers this coming year?
  3. And he can never get on base, his career obs is .328, no thanks
  4. I don't think the Angels would trade Santana for Fielder straight up, although, it could be close, would you deal Gallardo for Fielder?
  5. I agree, Escobar has to be playing fulltime in 2009, and it sure won't be in the majors (ok, maybe a 5% chance of that?) but, TLB, the whole point what Cheez (i think) and i have been saying, is it's really easy to say, "we're going to go get a 3B that hits similar or better than Hardy, and sign him cheaper than what Hardy would make at SS, then trade Hardy b/c he has more value as a SS" but when you actually look at it, there aren't really any options at 3B available that would be near Hardy offensively (and probably defensively at 3B), you mention Blalock, have you looked at his numbers lately? well i guess you really don't need to because he has barely played the last two seasons, no more than 58 games each season - and the majority couldn't wait for sheets to leave town because he's so "injury prone" and his career stats don't say much either, he has a .702 career ops away from his nice home hitters park
  6. like said before, Escobar playing 2B would be just stupid, it would decrease his value a ton, i'm not saying Escobar should be with the team in 2009, I'd prefer him to stay in AAA all of 2009 and get more experience, he's only going to be 22 the whole 2009 season, after which, I believe he'll prove he deserves to be the starting SS in 2010
  7. I missed the likes of Rolen, Teahen, Reynolds, Blalock, Chavez, Crede, Figgins (i think he'd be a perfect fit, but don't see the Halos dealing him), but I don't see any of them as an upgrade over Hardy at 3B, also, I don't see how you can compare Adam Everett to Escobar, Everett's best offensive season in the minors was a .275 avg/.711 ops as a 25 year old in AAA in 375 at bats, Escobar just posted a 797 ops as a 21 year old in AA, i also don't think Escobar's defense is that far off of Everett, and I would for sure say it's better than Hardy, I was out in Spring Training this last year, the whole week that Hardy had his flu or whatever, and saw Escobar play that entire week at SS, and he is just so frickin quick out there in the field and gets to everything. That play he made on St Paddy's day in the hole towards 3B, backhanded pick, jump, and perfect strike to 1B was amazing. He's got as strong of an arm as Hardy. An Escobar/Hardy ss/3b in 2010 i think would be ideal (unless Gamel can stick at 3B, which i really don't think will happen)
  8. I know people keep saying to maximize Hardy's value (if Escobar is used at short and Hardy is either traded or moved to another position) is to trade him and sign another 3B, just as Ennder has stated above. I rarely post, but I often lurk and read, but I keep thinking to myself, "so who is this 3B we are going to sign / trade for? and are they going to be better than what Hardy could do at 3B, and if so, how much are they going to cost in FA or in a trade?" the only better 3B than Hardy (if he was moved there) that i can think of would be A-Rod, D. Wright, Youklis (when he plays there instead of 1B), Miguel Cabrera (who is a 1b now), Chipper (when healthy - big if, and coming to the end of his career), Longoria, and Aramis Ramirez. I would say none of those guys could be had. Ryan Zimmerman would probably be a bit of an upgrade, although he was injured last year, and I highly doubt the Nats would deal him, Alex Gordon has the potential, but he hasn't put up the numbers yet (yes, i know he's young and will probably get better over the next few years) but again, I don't see KC dealing him. That leaves the likes of Garrett Atkins (no thanks), Mark DeRosa, Jorge Cantu, Adrian Beltre (a possibility?), Aubrey Huff (no he's not a 3B, he's a DH or 1B), Troy Glaus, Casey Blake, Melvin Mora, E. Encarnacion, Kouzmanoff, Lowell, and I'll stop there. Would you really want any of those guys playing 3B instead of Hardy? Yes, it'd be ideal to get a "solid/average" 3B and trade Hardy for more value, but you have to look at what is actually out there, and I just don't see why Hardy couldn't help this team out at 3B, his range is about average and has a plus arm, isn't that what is usually looked for at 3B? Sorry for the long post, just needed to get that off my chest that this "ideal" 3B really doesn't exist out there at this moment
  9. I know this would probably be a long shot, but the Tigers are talking about dealing Magglio Ordonez and are in need of SP, SS, and catching I wonder if they would bite on something along the lines of Hardy and Suppan for Ordonez and possibly Ramon Santiago (fill Counsell's utl. role and insurance for Escobar) ? or maybe i'm way undervalueing Maggs. they would get their SS they're looking for and a #4 or #5 SP and the Brewers would be taking on about 3 million (suppan 12.5 + hardy 5 = 17.5? maggs 18 + santiago 2.5 = 20.5?) Hart could then be used in a deal to get a 3B/2B or help upgrade the SP If that's not enough for the tigers, maybe the crew could throw in Fryer seeing as he looks to be behind Salome, Lucroy, and now Lowrie
  10. the wind is brutal there, that's why it looked like he took such an awful route at the ball, that and you could see he slipped on the wet grass as he got his glove on it, then lost it - don't think they should be playing a PLAYOFF game in raining conditions like this
  11. i would take a rain delay, get hamels out of there, with having mcclugn, bush, suppan, parra, i would say the brewers are in much better position for a rain delay here than the phillies
  12. Peavey, I'm pretty sure they believe Jeff Kent is done for his career with some type of a knee injury he just suffered. I really like the idea of bringing in D. Lowe to fill out the rotation. Lowe-Gallardo-Parra-Bush-Suppan is a pretty solid rotation, obviously not as good as Sabathia and Sheets at the top, but it would fit the budget very nice and would gain 4 high picks (hopefully 2 first rounders and 2 sandwich) without losing any kind of a pick. I really hope they pick up Cam's option, there's no way you can trust Edmonds to play even 100 games next year, where Cam seems to be a solid lock for at least 140 (without being suspended for 25). Is it possible for Heether to be a utility player next year? some kind of combination of him, Dillon, Lamb, Nelson?

  15. Kendall vs. Estrada......HUGE upgrade with Kendall. I would say he's been the best FA pickup of the offseason, hands down. A very close 2nd would be Torres. I would agree with this, but Torres wasn't a FA pickup, he was traded from Pitt
  16. Colby, MLB.com lists him as a RHP in their draft tracker
  17. on tuesday, i was sitting right there and heard the whole thing, it was hilarious, it more or less went "hey griffey, what, are they paying you 10 mil to bunt now????" then he turns back with his normal smile, and replies in a quiet, but joking manner "well, 13, but yeah" haha it was great, wasn't cocky or anything... just in a funny manner
  18. i understand your skepticism Big Reed, but that collision between Beltran and Cameron was not "not very hard" ... if my memory serves me right, that was a very very very brutal collision, and both were really shaken up, and one missed significant time i believe?
  19. biggio had OPSs of .727 and .666 his last two seasons with over 500 AB's each season... that's not exactly helping the team. Biggio was amazing, growing up as a little kid, I loved Biggio and Bagwell - they were so much fun to watch and follow and Biggio's always been a classy guy. I think to get to 3000 hits, it would have been better for the Astros as a part-time player, although, they weren't really competing for anything so I guess Biggio at least drew a crowd to the park
  20. Can anyone help point me in the right direction to a site (preferably free) that lists both hitters and pitchers BABIP for 2007? Thanks in advance!

  22. each team gets 1 full and 4 20 second timeouts for the entire game, can use them all up in the 1st half and have none left in the second half if you really want
  23. I think it all depends on what type of front office job you're actually looking for, seeing as there are many different types, most of them have to deal with some sort of business degree and the new trend is leaning towards MBA grads or law school grads i believe
  24. I agree with the replies that a professional hitter is someone who works the count, has a high OBP, moves the runner over when the situation presents itself, all of the small things that add up over the course of the season, I'd hope if Melvin is able to pick up a hitter like this, he hits 2nd, with weeks still leading off, braun 3, prince 4 and hart 5, i would say a few examples of this type of player (although none of which i could see being on the brewers next year) would be placido polanco, edgar renteria, and freddy sanchez
  25. Brad Thompson and LaRussa not getting tossed after Hall was hit? Both teams had already received warnings and another batter was hit, they should have been tossed right away, no questions asked, I don't care if it was intentional or not (I'm 99% sure it wasn't) but once another man gets hit in that situation, the manager and pitcher should be tossed. I do believe the homeplate ump made the swift toss of the arm showing they were both gone once the 1st base umpire ruled Billy had been hit, but nothing happened after. Why issue warnings if a guy can get hit, but nothing happens? I understand McClung's looked more obvious, but that's besides the point, as has already been brought up, Prince getting hit was obviously intentional and LaRussa and Thompson should have been gone at that time. What makes it worse to me, is Thompson found his grove basically right after hitting Hall and went on to shut them down the rest of his time in the game. Once again, I believe the umps screwed us over ... well and yost
