  1. i couldn't agree more sbrylski, every post i've made involving anything about the roster for next year has included Gross in CF... usually with a platoon mate, but i'd be just as happy seeing him start every day out there, watching him at the plate he reminds me of overbay, and from what i remember with overbay was everyone was trying to think of a way to keep him on the team / in the lineup when Prince was coming up.. plus gross seems a lot more athletic than overbay
  2. john, take a look at crawfords first years in the majors..... all i see is his OPS going up.... not up, down, down, up ... like wells, crawford is also younger, provides a lot more speed and will develop about as much pop as Wells has now, at the same age (3 years from now) ... plus an added bonus that crawford is signed through the 2010 season i believe , instead of a one-year rent a player that Wells would be, and there is no way the brewers will give him a 6 year $100+ mil. contract which many are saying he will get this next offseason
  3. How do you call Sheets and overrated ace, and bring up wood and prior and not say the same thing? ... wow.... you're exactly the type of guy that keeps me away from posting very much ... closed minded / know-it-all / better than everyone else
  4. There was a reason we were well under .500 this season and please, don't say injuries. So, I guess with the injuries of Sheets and Ohka didn't cause the brewers to lose any more games than if they would have been healthy? because jackson, eveland, hendrickson, et all, productions was just that great? i guess i must have been watching a different team than you were
  5. Starters C Miller 2.25 1B Fielder 0.40 2B Weeks 0.75 SS Hall 3.00 3B Koskie 2.00 LF Gross (or CF) 0.40 CF Hart (or LF) 0.40 RF Jenkins 7.00 Bench C M. Rivera - hopefully Closser makes it thru waivers to AAA 0.40 OF Clark 3.80 OF Mench 3.00 INF Cirillo 1.20 INF Hardy? / Graffy? / other veteran utility player 2.00 about $26.40 million? Starting Pitching Sheets 10.00 Capuano 2.50 Bush 0.40 Davis 6.00 Villanueva 0.40 $19.30 Relief Pitching Cordero 5.40 Turnbow 2.30 Wise 1.00 Capellan 0.40 Shouse 1.00 Hendrickson 0.40 Veteran LR / 6th SP 3.00 $13.50 Total of $59.20, leaves some room for dealing and some minor free agent pickups to fill holes If Koskie isn't able to return, either bring in another veteran to platoon with Cirillo at 3B, or if Braun actually looks like he's ready for playing 130 games in the majors this season, stick him at 3B Start Hardy in AAA just to get him back to playing ball, hopefully he forces Doug to bring him back up to the big leagues soon If Mench wants to play fulltime, Doug should be able to find a decent enough deal to bring back something useful in return, either a couple mid-level prospects or some bullpen help Can start Clark and/or Mench for Gross and/or Jenkins vs LHP or an occasional day off for Hart to keep him fresh (once every two weeks, or a few more times if he is in a slump) Fielder / Jenkins(RF) / Hall / Gross(LF) (if he plays mostly vs RHP) should be able to post .850 OPS Weeks / 3B / Hart should be able to post an OPS in the .800 - .850 range and Miller / Rivera combo should be able to post an OPS of .750+ C - Miller / Rivera 60/40 split 1B - Fielder 2B - Weeks SS - Hall 3B - Koskie/Cirillo RH / LH platoon OF (plus pinch hitting AB's) Hart - 500 ABs Jenkins 500 AB's (mostly all vs RHP - pinch hit when lefty starts) Gross 400 AB's (mostly all vs RHP - pinch hit when lefty starts) Mench 400 AB's (start verse all lefties, and some starts vs. righties, and pinch hitting duty as well) Clark 400 AB's (start vs lefties, and pinch hitting role as well)
  6. So because Crawford posted a .830 OPS in 2006, he's going to continue to put up a .830 OPS the rest of his career? .781, .800, .830 the guy is only 25 years and getting better -- developing more power to go along with his amazing speed and base stealing ability --- if people are willing to compare weeks to henderson in the leadoff capability... i'd be more willing to compare crawford to henderson
  7. If the brewers were to deal cappy for crawford, that'd give the brewers 2 for sure starting OFers (Hart and Crawford) to make up for the loss of cappy , there would be a few OF available to deal, Mench, Gross, Clark, Jenkins, Nix, Gwynn, there would really only be room for 2 of those guys on the roster at that point, so a few of them could be flipped for some pitching depth - granted, not the quality of cappy however
  8. Colby, don't those statistics not count for what was accumulated in September? I'm pretty sure Villenueva will be considered a rookie next year, Prince was considered a rookie coming into this year, as well as Zimmerman, Mike Jacobs, and Matt Cain
  9. I don't really want to see anyone up on the major league roster to learn anymore. how do you then find out if a player will be able to cut it or not at the major league level? you have to have people on the roster to learn, just hopefully we are past the time where it seems like half of the roster is trying to learn. look at the white sox, they brought up their CF Anderson to learn this year, but they have enough other good players, they are able to wait it out and let him develop, i hope that's what the brewers are planning on doing as well
  10. from what i took from that article, is that between August of 2003 (when Rickie signed the deal) he is/was owed $5.1 million. He received $2 million before January of 04 for part of his 3.6 million dollar signing bonus, leaving $1.6 million to be spread out over 04,05,06 and 07... 400,000 a year? add that onto his salary this year from the big league team 330,000? .. that should equal about 730,000 for him? not? am i missing something?
  11. wooooooooooooooooooooooooow....sllloooooooooooooow, i think a 2nd grader can run faster than Mench .... awful
  12. However, in bizarro world, this was a terrific win for the Crew! because we're turnblowing our way back into the top 10 of the draft as we're more used to? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. So, now we find out that there probably was something wrong in that start against the Giants..... great...... Teddy H. jr?? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif i hope not....
  14. In mid-may, after school was done for the year, i took a trip down to nashville for the four game set vs the 51's, i ended up talking to a couple guys in the stands during the series, and they all were talking about how the city was talking about building a new stadium, down next to their river, with prime real-estate(which used to be a land-fill, if i remember correctly) and seemed to be very very excited about it. The current stadium is in a decent, but yet kind of shady part of the city, and, from the proposals the people were telling me about, this new stadium should attract many more fans than what they were/are drawing now
