expect a minor league rehab assignment to be starting soon for j.c. mejia . . .

again, have to wait how things shake out post-trading deadline, but given the current roster, could easily option peter strzelecki and recall jason alexander for a spot start. then option alexander after the game and either recall trevor kelley or activate one of jake cousins, luis perdomo or justin topa.

per the brewers.com transactions page, connor sadzeck cleared outright waivers. it appears that he accepted the minor league assignment, but we'll have to wait for confirmation.

if victor caratini spends less than 20 days on optional assignment, he does not burn his option, and he's credited with a full season of major league service time and pay. also, any player who is optioned to the minor leagues after the third day following labor day shall receive major league service (but not major league salary) for the duration of his optional assignment. the former is a clever way to keep hiura's bat in the lineup for 20 days and not spite victor caratini too much.

5.0 innings in five games thus far on luis perdomo's rehab assignment. six strikeouts, zero walks. opponents batting .235 against him. not sure how long minor league rehab assignments can last under the new collective bargaining agreement, but under the previous one, it was 30 days for pitchers.

the brewers don't play a stretch of five games without an off day until 6 august. made sense to send ethan small on optional assignment. unless there's an injury, small won't be eligible to be recalled for that game, but jason alexander could certainly be recalled for a spot start. not worth speculating on 6 august's opening pitcher just yet, as it's after the trading deadline.

unless replacing an injured player or a player put on a leave list, ethan small will have to remain on optional assignment for a minimum of 15 days. this is small's second optional assignment since 2 may. he may be sent on three more optional assignments this year before having to be exposed to waivers.
