odd. part of something bigger?

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

This looks like the Axford trade last year.  I think we paid like $50 for him, so hopefully the same deal here. Anything more would be an overpay.  He's pitched 39 innings in the last five seasons...

Why? How many BP arms do we need? Don't we have Cousins and Topa coming back soon too?

And optioned Perdomo today despite a good rehab assignment, because presumably there isn't a place for him in our bullpen.

Just signed on July 21. Why didn't we do it then if we liked him so much?

The Giants did give him a 4.5 million dollar guarantee

I mean, I have no idea why Stearns doesn't think they need a bat. What an incredibly disappointing trade deadline...again.

Is it 5:00 CDT where you live?

Patience man.

This move is obviously weird.  I'm guessing it's for cash or an extremely low level prospect.

obviously I'm not in the room, but my guess is that the brewers just bought a 4.5MM Lottery ticket at Kwik Trip.

It’s probably just taking the 4.5 million dollar contract off their hands if he’s weeks away and they’re breaking up their team for this year.

It's not 5:00 but when I saw Stearns's quote this morning that "there is no obvious place to add a bat", I knew then they weren't going to acquire one. Even if they do at this point, it won't be the big bat they need. It will be some slap hitting utility guy. Also known as a Non needle mover.

At this point, keep him on the DL and see if he has anything, add him in September.  My guess is that SF is picking up most of his salary.

Dude ... you need some anti-depression meds or something.

There is no scenario, apparently, where we feel we have enough BP arms.

The Cardinals were a mediocre team in 2011, traded for some bullpen arms and rode them to a title so who knows?
