  1. mlb announces rule changes for 2020: --pitchers requisite stay for being optioned increases from 10 days to 15 days. position players can be recalled after 10 days. --pitchers and two-way players must remain on the injured list for a minimum of 15 days--an increase from 10 days.
  2. brent suter's hearing reportedly is monday. have we heard anything about hader's?
  3. i'd happily trade the extra l in his name right now.
  4. and on the transactions page as well. i may or may not have tweeted the club to alert them of the omission.
  5. a club can bring over any player it wishes to for spring training games, and traditionally does so for every game. if you view the pre-game notes, you know who those players are. i visited maryvale last year. the minor league playing fields are farther away to the south from the main complex, and have limited public comfort station facilities nearby. if i recall correctly, there was one facility (used by the players and the public) within the vicinity of four or five playing fields on the south end of the complex. but when a non-roster player in big league camp, he's working out on the main playing field, which is adjacent to the new, state-of-the art facility. and he does get a per diem, and he definitely gets better meal services inside the clubhouse. minor league players don't get paid during spring training (they start getting paid opening day). and i believe that they are responsible for their housing while in arizona. it's not uncommon for 8, 10, 12 guys to be living under one roof at a short-term rental house. it's unclear if that non-roster player under a minor league contract is paid during spring training, or if his pay starts on the opening day of his minor league season, like everyone else.
  6. check again, as the current list is 19 players. while shelby miller is not listed on brewers.com, his deal was officially announced by the club. there are 20 non-roster invitees thus far.
  7. tried in vain to find an old thread on high numbers of non-roster invitees. i know that its title was something like "we're taking this thing national(s) . . . or a record number of non-roster invitees?" i compared the brewers to the nationals, who always seem to have 25+ non-roster invitees in camp.
  8. 10 players on minor league contracts with the brewers have been invited to big league camp. 3b lucas erceg c mario feliciano c payton henry lhp clayton andrews rhp zack brown rhp thomas jankins rhp drew rasmussen rhp miguel sanchez lhp ethan small rhp aaron wilkerson if added to the 26-man roster, all have three minor league options, except for wilkerson, who has one minor league option remaining. this brings the total of non-roster invitees to 20. i need to check on the last time the club had so many non-roster invitees in camp.
  9. i don't see record of blanco ever having been optioned to the minor leagues. he's been outrighted to the minor leagues quite a bit, and having gone unclaimed, he's exercised his right to free agency. if added to the 26-man roster, he does have enough major league service time to refuse optional assignment to the minor leagues. he becomes the 10th non-roster invitee to 2020 spring camp.
  10. no surprises here, but brent suter is not being considered for the 2020 starting rotation . . .
  11. deal with david phelps is official. it appears that he has two minor league options remaining, but enough service time to refuse the optional assignment. to make room on the 40-man roster, deolis guerra has been designated for assignment. the club has seven days to trade him, release him, or try to outright him to the minor leagues. if he clears outright waivers, he reserves the right to refuse the minor league assignment and become a free agent. the 40-man roster remains at capacity.
  12. will be interesting to see if guerra is the corresponding move when the david phelps deal is official . . . being out of options doesn't help his cause.
  13. mlb has ruled officially: 13 pitchers maximum on the 26-man roster. in other words, pretty much what the brewers have done for the majority of the past two seasons.
  14. it appears that david phelps has two minor league options remaining, but enough service time to refuse the optional assignment. a corresponding move needs to be made on the 40-man roster. the last time the brewers acquired an infielder with a full 40-man, they bumped a pitcher. the injury to luis urias may protect an infielder from being bumped.
  15. shelby miller signs a minor league deal with the club with an invitation to big league camp. it appears that miller has two minor league options remaining, but enough service time to refuse the optional assignment. miller has been outrighted to the minor leagues before, so if he makes the 26-man roster and is outrighted off the 40-man, he can refuse the minor league assignment.. he is the ninth non-roster invitee to 2020 spring training.
  16. craig counsell says that corbin burnes and freddy peralta will be considered starting pitchers at spring camp for preservation of rotation depth.
  17. it is believed that brent suter's hearing will be 17 february in phoenix.
  18. they have? i honestly haven't paid that much attention to roster construction other than milwaukee's, so i'd welcome a source. i find it hard to fathom that an american league team would carry only 12 hitters for the majority of the season.
  19. what still hasn't been decided upon formally regarding roster construction? maximum number of pitchers allowed on a roster? has it been made official that the requisite stay for all players (pitchers and position players) on optional assignment must be at least 15 days instead of 10?
  20. morin is out of minor league options if he makes the 26-man roster. he has been outrighted to the minor leagues before, so if the brewers add him to the 26-man and then wish to send him to the minors upon clearing waivers, morin can refuse the assignment and become a free agent. morin becomes the eighth non-roster invitee to camp.
  21. 26-man. but everything else is correct.
  22. jake faria has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to the minor leagues. he has been invited to big league camp and is the seventh non-roster invitee in camp. if added to the 26-man roster, jake faria is out of minor league options. if the brewers wish to send him to the minor leagues again after clearing outright waivers, he reserves the right to refuse the assignment and become a free agent.
  23. ryon healy is on a major league deal and can be sent to the minor leagues on optional assignment.
  24. ryon healy is on a major league deal and can be sent to the minor leagues on optional assignment.
  25. suter is headed to arbitration.
