  1. texas is considering paying their minor league players . . .
  2. minor leaguers do not get paid until after opening day. most work jobs in the offseason, but for obvious reasons, don't have much time to work for income during spring training. same deal with major leaguers, but most make enough money to be able to stay afloat. additional content in this post . . .
  3. also curious how it affects non-roster invitees with more than six years service time who finished 2019 on a 40-man roster or major league injured list--regarding their roster status and potential retention bonus. if the general language is that the non-roster player must be informed within five days of opening day, but doesn't specify when opening day is, then presumably, the brewers could hang on to a player like logan morrison for a bit longer before deciding what to do with him. under normal circumstances, a non-roster player may make the opening day roster because another rostered player is injured. two weeks may be enough time for the injured player to heal, further hurting the chances of the non-roster player of making the club.
  4. both major league and minor league players don't get a paycheck until opening day (or shortly thereafter). keep in mind that even under normal circumstances, minor league opening day is two weeks later than major league opening day. the income inequities of minor league players have been well-documented in recent years. worth reading this twitter thread on what the cubs are considering doing for their minor league players . . .
  5. gotta cancel my wednesday flight to phoenix.
  6. as a non-roster invitee who's still in major league camp, you're in the dugout and the bullpen for every game and available to play. for a player like bickford, it's a game-by-game basis to be invited. also, as mentioned earlier, minor league camp players are playing on fields further away from the main complex in the maryvale neighborhood of phoenix, and i believe in the case of the san francisco giants (whose facility is on a very small footprint in scottsdale with only one additional adjacent playing field), minor league camp is held at a different site. use google satellite view to take a look at cactus league facilities. the brewers are quite fortunate to have all of their playing fields on one mass of land. many other clubs have their adjacent playing fields for minor league camp separated by public roadways. at the complex in the maryvale, it's safe and convenient for fans and players to be able to freely walk back and forth without having to worry about vehicular traffic.
  7. does morrison warrant breaking camp with the club on the 26-man roster? because he finished the season on a club's 40-man roster, he has an opt-out clause towards the end of spring training. the brewers may pay him a $100,000 retention bonus to keep him in the minor leagues until another potential opt-out date in june.
  8. corey ray has been optioned. if he spends at least 20 days optioned, he will burn his first option. trey supak has been optioned. if he spends at least 20 days optioned, he will burn his second option. there are 38 players on the active roster ahead of the deadline to submit a 26-man roster.
  9. these players have been reassigned to minor league camp: 3b lucas erceg c mario feliciano c payton henry lhp clayton andrews rhp thomas jankins rhp drew rasmussen rhp miguel sánchez lhp ethan small
  10. first non-roster invitee; one of the first reassigned to minor league camp.
  11. still a small sample size, but in 15 spring plate appearances, travis shaw has only one hit, one walk and nine strikeouts.
  12. small sample size, but travis shaw has struck out four times in six at-bats (zero walks) this spring. he struck out 25 times in 52 at-bats and zero walks with the brewers last spring.
  13. craig counsell has hinted that the rotation will be brett anderson, adrian houser, josh lindblom and brandon woodruff as locks. eric lauer and freddy peralta battle it out for the final spot, with corbin burnes next in line. non-roster invitee shelby miller in line after that.
  14. urias has been cleared to begin some baseball activity.
  15. tyrone taylor is out until late april or early may as recovers from left wrist surgery. makes the club less likely to trade gamel early in the season.
  16. 1. brett anderson 2. ray black 3. corbin burnes 4. alex claudio 5. josh hader 6. adrian houser 7. eric lauer 8. josh lindblom 9. freddy peralta 10. david phelps 11. brent suter 12. bobby wahl 13. brandon woodruff corey knebel on injured list 1. orlando arcia 2. ryan braun 3. lorenzo cain 4. ben gamel 5. avisail garcia 6. jedd gyorko 7. keston hiura 8. brock holt 9. omar narvarez 10. manny pina 11. justin smoak 12. eric sogard 13. christian yelich luis urias on injured list
  17. it appears that the 7-day injured list for concussion symptoms remains. thus, a pitcher could be placed on the 7-day injured list.
  18. deal with brock holt is official. one year deal with a club option for 2021. holt has one minor league option remaining, but enough major league service time to refuse the optional assignment. to make room on the 40-man roster, taylor williams has been designated for assignment. the club has seven days to trade or release williams outright, or try to outright him to the minor leagues. if williams goes unclaimed, he will be forced to accept the minor league assignment. the 40-man roster remains at capacity.

  23. it is reported that brent suter filed for $1.25 million and the club for $825,000. suter's hearing is reportedly scheduled for tomorrow.
