  1. speed and defense as the 26th guy . . . especially with ryan braun and lorenzo cain expected to be banged up and in need of rest? i don't think that's a terrible idea. yes, i'd start ben gamel ahead of keon broxton when a veteran needs a day off . . .
  2. keon broxton is back with the brewers on a minor league deal and has been invited to big league camp. broxton is out of minor league options. there are three non-roster invitees to 2020 camp.
  3. don't forget that his son, daron, was a brewers broadcaster for five seasons.
  4. omar narváez acquired from seattle in exchange a minor leaguer and a 2020 competitive balance round b selection. narváez has all three minor league options intact and is under club control (arbitration-eligible) for the next three seasons. the roster is at 32 players.
  5. it appears that narvaez has never been optioned to the minor leagues.
  6. grimm is out of minor league options and has already been outrighted to the minor leagues. grimm becomes the second non-roster invitee to big league camp.
  7. it's five years of major league service. entering 2020 spring training, neither player has achieved that.
  8. alex claudio and travis shaw each have an option remaining.
  9. a friendly reminder, please . . . thanks!
  10. the post above prompted me to dig up this thread. please take a look at it and quote/post accordingly.
  11. discussed amply here, the brewers decided not to tender contracts to five arbitration-eligible players, making alex claudio, junior guerra, jimmy nelson, tyler saladino and travis shaw free agents. the roster is at 31 players.
  12. trade is official with san diego. zach davies and trent grisham traded for eric lauer (three options remaining), luis urias (two options remaining) and a player to be named later or cash. the player to be named later is usually not on a major league contract. two subtractions, two additions to the 40-man. the roster remains at 36.
  13. eric lauer has all three minor league options intact. luis urias has two minor league options remaining.
  14. i disagree with this thread being moved to the minor league forum. the player got an invite to big league camp.
  15. the brewers signed rhp jesus castillo to a minor league deal and invited him to big league camp. it appears that castillo has two minor league options remaining. he has been outrighted off the 40-man roster before. castillo is the first non-roster player invited to 2020 big league camp.
  16. assuming pitchers are capped at 13, i could see the brewers grabbing a versatile position player with strong defense and speed.
  17. with the three adds today, the roster is at 36.
  18. but what about the requisite length of optional assignment for pitchers and for hitters? it was planned that it would increase to 15 days for pitchers, but stay at 10 days for position players . . .
  19. yardley was claimed off release waivers, not outright waivers.
  20. i still don't understand how this was a claim off outright waivers. yardley was designated for assignment on 4 november. clubs have only seven days to trade, release, or attempt outright waiver assignments. that seven-day window expired earlier this week. plus, it's stated on mlb.com that the padres released him 7 november. this should be a free agent signing a major league contract.
  21. the brewers apparently have claimed, rather than signed, eric yardley, who had previously been with the padres. yardley has all three minor league options intact. if he was signed as a free agent after being released by san diego, it's important to note that he was first outrighted off their 40-man roster. this would factor in if the brewers wish to send yardley outright to the minor leagues again. the roster is at 33.
  22. eric yardley has been claimed off waivers from san diego, which is a little confusing, because on his mlb.com profile page, it says that he was released by the padres on 7 november, after being designated for assignment three days prior. yardley spent his first time on a 40-man roster in 2019. he was optioned for less than 20 days, so he enters 2020 spring training with all three minor league options intact. the roster is at 33.
  23. deadline to protect players is two weeks from tomorrow. eight open spots on the 40-man, so plenty of room.
  24. the brewers officially announced picking up the option of manny pina. the brewers declined the option of eric thames. the brewers have traded chase anderson for a minor leaguer. the brewers have reinstated corey knebel and bobby wahl from the 60-day injured list. the roster remains at 32.
  25. it should be noted that spanberger is on a minor league contract and is not rule 5 eligible this year, so this transaction does open up a 40-man spot.
