  1. I think if the WS success of the Royals and Nats, over recent history, tells us anything, it's that there's no "one true way" to build a successful roster. One built on a shutdown bullpen, with speedy position players, the other with dominant SP and some superstars combined with rookies with talent, and a few ho-hum guys like Parra. On paper, at least 10 teams look better constructed than the Crew to compete in 2020. 10 bucks says we will compete, and some of those 10 won't make the playoffs. I also still think there's one more decent move to come from DS ahead of FanFest - gotta keep that late January JuJu going!
  2. I'm amazed an organization as poorly-run as the Mets has been in recent years didn't find a way to screw this up, from a PR standpoint. Well, apart from Mendoza going around effectively siding with the cheaters, that is!
  3. Oh, I dunno, every off-season recently has been one of doom and gloom, then they actually start playing the games and somehow are competitive. It's like they maybe have an idea what they are doing in the Brewers F.O.
  4. I enjoyed those Buckethead nights, in mostly awful seasons. 9000 people in Miller Park - 8000 in that section!
  5. With all due respect, I don't consider guys like Moose and Grandal who were only around for a year "big" Free agent signings. Big in name, yes, big in $$ for one year, I guess so. To me(and it's me personally) "big" FA signings are guys you sign for 4-5 years and they are part of your core going forward. Cain was a "big" FA signing. The problem is, the Brewers will probably only have one of these types every 3-4 years. The rest will be cheaper one year guys or "filler" and "hope" type of guys, like we see this year. Which makes your disappointment at the Crew not landing Donaldson really about your expectations that we WOULD sign him. I'm disappointed ScarJo never picked up the phone before she started dating Colin Jost. Again, that's on me, it wasn't gonna happen!
  6. I think there's a statute somewhere that there must be a designated Whipping Boy!
  7. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/01/white-sox-hire-wes-helms-as-triple-a-manager.html *checks notes* - no games in Puerto Rico!
  8. As manager and GM, Hinch and Luhnow had to go. Either they were (a) complicit in the scheme, or (b) unaware of the very things they NEED to be aware of, as leaders of the team. I simply don't buy that 25 players, plus additional coaches like Cora, could have kept what was happening a complete secret from Hinch and Luhnow. Their "not my fault" statements yesterday ring hollow.
  9. What part of the phrase "small-market team" isn't true? On sheer demographics we are the SMALLEST market team. Add in the relative dearth of TV money and it's not unreasonable to suggest the Brewers punch above their weight MOST years. That doesn't mean we CAN'T be competitive, hell Tampa Bay and KC did pretty well with that business model. If you, or anyone else are bemoaning the lack of signings a la the Nats, Yankees, Dodgers etc. might I suggest following THEIR teams, where you'll get all the high-profile baseball your heart desires.
  10. The various comments similar to "there are too many questions going into 2020". Compared to what? Guarantees? This isn't a toaster, there ARE no guarantees. 30 teams are going into 2020 with questions all over their roster. Who made the sexiest trade going into 2019? Arguably the Phillies with Harper. How'd that work out for them last year? I'm not saying that buying better players doesn't give you more tickets to the lottery, but to a degree, it IS a lottery. We ABSOLUTELY are not getting any of Arenado, Bryant or Donaldson (and probably not a Seager,) so absolve yourselves of that fantasy, if sexy signings are what you're after. We've signed players in the past who've ended up being a "safety net" in case of not getting a bigger name. Maybe that'll happen before Spring Training, maybe not. I still don't think Stearns is done yet, but if so, I think DS has done pretty well given the cards that were dealt this off-season. Let's go Crew!
  11. That's ruined several BF.net posters' morning!
  12. 2nd worst in MLB in walks per 9 innings in 2019, with 4.3. Given the general IGT ire at walking batters, I'd hate to see what they would say about Teheran!
  13. He misses them so often, they tend to give the hitter first base!
  14. I'd rather have Seager/Turner at 3b, and maybe a Keuchel in the stocking too, please Santa. ....and while I'm dreaming, I'd also like pony and a Turbo Man!
  15. I, too, heard we were the semi-mythical "mystery team" in on Rendon. For what it's worth, I was "in" on marrying Megan Markle before she got wed to Prince Harry, and I think the odds of either were about the same!
  16. That's just mean - we did let them sign Hernan!
  17. Yeah, that line almost seems like clickbait. A 1 year deal at that price is the definition of low risk/high reward
  18. Wrong on both counts. Hey, since you obviously own a time machine, couldya lemme know which stocks I should pick up cheap that'll increase in value?
  19. I really, really want Hernan to cost the Cubs a game against us (as much as I like the guy), just because I love the phrase "come home Agent Perez, mission accomplished"!
  20. Careful what you wish for from Santa. Last time we acquired a "name" around Xmas, it was Jeff Suppan!
  21. On the plus side, this Winter's trades have shown who needs to be on the IGT ignore list for 2020!
  22. Straight up trade of Cain for Snell, was what I heard!
  23. People moan about what we pay Braun, and that's with him playing. Can you imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth paying that much for Kluber to NOT play?
  24. At some point in the next 3 months? How about before there all signed The only ones signed, so far, we couldn't afford, even if we wanted to. If you're waiting for a MadBum or Keuchel, yeah, good luck with that.
  25. At some point in the next 3 months?
