  1. I've been wondering the same...could actually really use the gio they got for the first handful of starts he gave them Also, not sure if I like a 2 inning save attempt by hader here...hope he can get it done It's only a 2 inning save attempt if the Brewers don't tack on at the top of the 9th. I gotta think if it was 8 or 9 to 3, Hader would be in for one only.
  2. Dave Nilsson in '96 Thanks - it was only partially rhetorical, but looks like our favorite Aussie still holds the title!
  3. I'm curious but what is the difference in table position between overperforming against good teams and underperforming against bad teams, versus the opposite? Seems like we'd be right where we are, no?
  4. Isn't the mark of a good team that they can win when not playing their best? Despite many posters here suggesting they are gross, mediocre or SELLERS at the deadline fer gawd's sake, the Crew sits back atop the division. There's a few cylinders to fire, for sure, but the sky isn't falling just yet.
  5. Huira's kryptonite is that high fastball. He'll learn, I'm sure, but for now, get used to that happening quite a bit.
  6. The best thing about Perez being DFA'ed is that now we no longer have to get the "Hernan is playing everyday too much for my liking" posts, from certain BF.net members...
  7. I can kinda see both sides here. Jettisoning previously productive players after a slow start is just not something a team with the Brewers' resources can do. We aren't the Yankees, Cubs or Red Sox who can just buy their way out of roster difficulties. And one game back, approaching the ASG is by no means "panic button mode". Stearns and CC both suggested that we'd have to fix this internally, and would eventually have a point of no return. The main difference between fans and the HO is where that point was, I believe. Apparently, that point is now, with the HO and would have been a month ago with most fans. Had HP continued to completely OWN LH pitching, there's no way he'd have been on the chopping block, but versatility is useful right up until the point you can't hit in ANY position, against any hitters, whichever hand they throw with. I gotta think the balance between sentimentality/loyalty vs club success/chemistry is a tricky one to get right. I think too many fans see only the "I want what I want, now, daddy", Veruca Salt approach when these are ACTUAL people we are talking about, and what the Brewers do with them can have repercussions, both on the field, and in the locker room.
  8. Which hurts even more knowing we could have put some ground between us with just a decent little run. Pessimism in the optimism thread. Way to stay on brand!
  9. Interesting that a Shaw strikeout causes a half dozen rage posts, but a Yelich home run and it's crickets from the Chicken Littles in the IGT. Hmmmm....
  10. I would not be surprised if the Brewers get swept. This is the type of series we as fans go into expecting to take at least 2 of 3 but the Brewers crap the bed and get swept. Like against the Angels earlier this year. Based on that logic, no one should ever be surprised at an outcome of any series. Sweep, get swept, split, take 2 of 3, drop 2 of 3. It's baseball. Sounds about right.
  11. Or they just like how he matches up with a crappy Giants batting order when compared to the hot-hitting Astros in his second game of MLB action in 18 months. I think you may be reading a bit much into the situation. Astros lineup littered with AAA bats because of injuries, so their lineup isn’t exactly scary good. Seems pretty scary to me, and if Verlander pitches like he can, they might not need many runs! I wonder if the Crawford box short left field had anything to do with the decision. Either way - Go Brewers, back in #1 in the Central!
  12. This is right, except switch Shaw/Arcia. Get ready to see a LH reliever face 4-7 in the lineup at least once...probably twice today. Bench isn't long enough to realistically PH Thames for Aguilar in those scenarios. Neither Conley or Garcia is having a very good year, so I'm less worried about playing to avoid lefty lefty matchups, and if the Marlins run one out against FOUR guys in a row (two of whom have hit lefties well this year), I think it would go well for us.
  13. Through all this, my overriding take is that we're having a hard time deciding which great or potentially (historically?) great player(s) we leave out of the lineup. As a Brewer fan it was not always thus!
  14. Since our bullpen has arguably been the number one strength of the team during the recent couple of seasons, I'm inclined to keep that the way CC likes it, then.
  15. I'm conflicted here. Of course, like most of us here, I wanted Hiura to stay up, but he certainly had his flaws. Off the top of my head I remember at least 3 Ks with the bases loaded in those 17 days. Mediocre at best defense at 2nd. Certainly plays that Moose and Shaw at 2nd got slated for ("and that's why you have a real 2b", etc.). But, I put it down to small sample size, nerves, whatever. It's been said more than once that the Brewers don't owe Shaw anything. Really? All he did was AS quality play for 2 full seasons, with more than 60HRs - at times last year putting the team on his back for a spell. I think if optics are what they are trying to preserve, kicking a previously productive player to the curb after a bad start is WAY worse than sending down a player that was brought up initially as an injury replacement. Goldschmidt was hitting below the Mendoza line after the same length of time in 2018, and I can't imagine the Dbacks binning him for a slow start. He finished with 33HRs and a .290 average. I think Shaw has earned the right to play himself well again. I don't think SA is where he needs to be. Frankly, I'd have liked both to be up and productive, but I 100% understand why Stearns did it. He's succeeded WAY more with the moves he's made than failed. I'm gonna cut him some slack that many others won't. As often happens, I'm sure injuries and the like will make this all work out - it seems to happen more often than not in baseball... What I won't do is wish that ANY Brewer fails to make Hiura's journey back easier. I don't get that attitude at all.
