  1. It's like a 12 Step program. Step 1 is realizing we are NEVER in the running for $300m contracts. After that, you understand the economic jiggery pokery required to make the Crew competitive, which, as the last few years under Stearns has shown, we can be. Throwing stupid money, to appease the fanbase, at 'meh' players (ahoy, Mr Suppan), is not DS' M.O. which can only be a good thing.
  2. You hit the nail on the head. The Brewers in regards to pitching sign guys that would normally be back end of rotation guys and make them amongst their top starters. NOT a sustainable strategy. Surely, if the last 2 days deals totaling a half BILLION have taught us anything, it's the ONLY sustainable strategy for a small market team. You're in for a looooong winter if you think for a second any of the top FA starters are coming here.
  3. So what you're saying is.... We can revive Narvdog?!? NarvPerro, maybe?
  4. The Brewers have done a bunch of something so far, or did you mean "hurry up and sign Gerrit Cole"? And, not to keep pointing at the calendar, it's Dec 4th...
  5. It's Chicken Little season already? I swear I never even saw the decorations go up!
  6. Where did I say walk Rendon. pitch carefully doesn't mean put him on. Your sense of superiority is pretty annoying sometimes.
  7. I'd have zero problems in being very careful vs Rendon and going after Soto. He seems like the guy to swing outside the zone.
  8. Now we're getting none of the calls. New York must have had a word and used the phrase "small market viewing figures".
  9. We've won games we had no right to, we've lost games like last night. Last time I checked, even Mo Rivera gave up homers. I'll still feel confident with Hader and a lead in a playoff game, frankly.
  10. If they couldn't win when trying for their own benefit, why would we think they'll win when trying for OUR benefit? Maddon would 100% moan if the tables were turned, but he's probably coaching his last weekend in MLB, so screw him, anyway!
  11. Re-reading this thread in the light of the subsequent 7 weeks of baseball, and tonight's playoff-clinching win, has been enlightening. To paraphrase one poster, so many in this thread posted opinions as facts. I'm glad I never attended the "funeral", makes this run all the sweeter. Go Crew!
  12. Really amazing that the Cards give a homeless guy a chance to pitch in the majors!
  13. I want the Cards to take care of the Nats. I want ZERO part of a one game shootout with Max Scherzer. The Cubs starters are gettable.
  14. Customary Grandal complaint about a strike, ahoy!
  15. Let's be clear here. I don't for a second think I'm a "better" fan than anyone else because I refuse to be defeatist until math says so. It's a comment on the same posters who manage to suck whatever joy there is about the team by proclaiming "game over, man", often as early as June, fer cripes sake! Heck, there's a "Eulogy for the Season" thread, even. My point with the post was that, however much some deny it, there ARE posters who take pleasure in being "right" about being Chicken Little, and seem to delight in the Crew falling over. I dunno, that seems like a cop-out, but you do you, I guess.
  16. That's the great thing about being a pessimist. If the Brewers fail you get to say "look how clever I am, I predicted this", if they win you get to see your team do well. It's the easy cop-out, frankly.
