  1. I wouldn't count them out. They were in the hunt for the playoffs until September last year. I am mildly surprised that Pedro has yet to sign a deal especially considering Smoltz's deal. Probably a good thing for the Astros that Puerto Rico was knocked out last night to give Pudge and the Astros pitchers a little more time to get to know each other.
  2. Not likely. The Brewers are pretty well set with catchers at AA and AAA between Salome, Lucroy, Corporan, Maldonado and that's not even counting Rottino. I thought the rules were that he would have to be returned if he didn't make the 25 man roster, like Crabbe last year?
  3. This results most likely in the return of Palmisano, correct?
  4. I had some troubles with the base running. I turned what should of been a seven run inning into a 2 run inning with some horrible base running or lack of really. I had no trouble with the hitting, but I assume that you guys were playing at a higher difficulty .
  5. I think we can carry both with a pitching staff of 12. Making up the 13 pos. spots. 1. Kendall 2. Rivera 3. Fielder 4. Weeks 5. Hardy 6. Lamb/Hall/McGehee 7. Lamb/Hall/McGehee 8. Counsell 9. Hart 10. Cameron 11. Braun --------------- 12. Duffy - need an OF capable of playing CF 13. Nelson - backup at 1st and corner OF, PHing I see no reason not too at the moment. He has sure outplayed Nixon.
  6. I wonder with Rivera out and Rottino playing for Italy if Melvin is wishing he would of waited to reassign Maldonado.
  7. It always blows my mind looking at pictures or walking around places like that. I am in the profession of facility maintenance and every time I mount something remotely expensive or important I get really nervous. Can't imagine the pressure of mounting some of those classic baseball artifacts. I also wonder how many pairs on unmentionables did the person charged with mounting, say the Mona Lisa go through.
  8. Wisconsin too. The enacted laws like this to protect the other person. You don't want the husband getting mad at her for calling the police and really beating her after they leave. Hence, someone is taken into custody for a "cooling down" period. It wasn't until the early 80s that charges could be filed by someone other than the battered spouse (a.k.a. the state steps in to charge the husband in cases when the wife is too afraid to press charges). I hope it was all just a big misunderstanding, and things got a bit out of hand for Spurling, but sadly we see this kind of stuff all the time in and out of the sports world.
  9. 21 games in LF two years ago for the Braves. None last year. About 40 games in LF in the minors throughout the years. Interesting that he played 13 games at 3B last year, and that appears to be the only time in his pro career. I wonder if the Braves were testing him out there to see if he could be a decent util guy?
  10. If he is cleared to play he is cleared to play, and its nobody's decision besides his. Looking at Canada's roster at the infielders it looks as if Koskie may be their best option. Two 1B's in Monreau and Votto. Barnwell and Orr probably are probably playing the middle infield. Don't know who Iorg (is this Garth's kid?), Bowman, or Clapp are though.
  11. Good news. I hope that he can catch on with some team and make it back to the majors someday. Its a shame that his career was derailed because of one play. http://blogs.twincities.c..._play_for_canada_in.html
  12. Lets also remember that we have not lost Pena yet. It is still possible that we could resign him.
  13. It's not a question of whether he would find a job or not. The issue is that the Cardinals didn't even give him an opportunity to find a job. Plus knowing what we know about the FA market now vs. what we thought it would be like in Nov. is a tad different. Would anyone predicted that so many top notch players would still be unemployed a day before pitchers and catchers report?
  14. Supposedly he turned down a minor league deal with the Nationals.
  15. It just seems like the classy thing to do for the Cardinals would of been not release him so close to spring training. At least give the guy a shot at finding employment elsewhere, plus the longer he has to look the larger the chance he finds something and the less money the Cardinals have to pay him. This all just seems odd to me.
  16. Melvin can do what the Cubs did with Bako, sign him, but do not make it official for awhile so that they can clear a 40-man spot.
  17. Why didn't the Cards do Kennedy a favor and waive him earlier in the season? Were they shopping him?
  18. If you are running Firefox download this add-on, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006 It allows you to download YouTube and similar flash videos. Of course you will also need to download a video player that can play .flv files.
  19. I was surprised that no sports writer attempted to link us to Smoltz. He would of been a good fit as either a starter or a closer. I am happy with the Hoffman signing. Now lets hope that Melvin works some magic and gets a solid starter.
  20. It is pretty sad that our highest paid player is Suppan. I would think that Prince would get closer to 10 mil in arby instead of 7.5. Look at Howard last year. I do not think that this is overpaying for Hoffman at all. He saved almost saved half the of the Padres wins last year. I really like this move.
  21. It would be cheap. Macha liked him. Could be a risk worth taking. The Boston Globe seems to think of it as a possibility. http://www.boston.com/spo...ts_the_offseason_of_hope/
  22. From Wikipedia, Attempting to hit every batter in the Cincinnati Reds lineup on May 1, 1974. In an effort to prove a point to teammates, Ellis hit Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, and Dan Driessen in the top of the first. The clean-up batter Tony Perez avoided Ellis' attempts, instead drawing a walk, and after two pitches aimed at the head of Johnny Bench, Ellis was removed from the game by manager Danny Murtaugh. Ellis' box score for the game reads: 0 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K.
  23. Meh, I seem to remember people getting upset over the Kapler signing last year and that was a major-league deal. Lets see how it pans out.
  24. MLB teams can't actually trade with Japanese teams, can they? Wasn't Tomo Ohka a gift to the Red Sox?
  25. According to baseball-reference.com he has played 1 game in CF in his career. Not that he is not capable, but I do not expect to see him in the OF anytime soon.
