  1. OK, just so I have this straight: Mota pitches 9th inning to hold 6-run lead in relief of Sabathia = acceptable (Aug. 13 Box Score) Mota pitches 9th inning to hold 7-run lead in relief of Sabathia = UNACCEPTABLE!!! That's sound logic.
  2. When I think back to my childhood, spending time during the summer at my family's Northwoods lake cottage (where we listened to a ton of games on the radio), one of the vivid memories is Bob Uecker's "roll call" at the end of the game: "....by Hardware Hank - you've got a lot more going for you with Hank...Hardware Hank!" I must have heard that particular voice say that particular line about 1,000 times in my life. It's odd that I will always associate Uecker with Hardware Hank as much as the Brewers.
  3. This is why I advocate wearing the navy blue jersey tops. Sweet Jesus. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/183255142a9a2debae46713145ed9406405dac5.jpg
  4. Admittedly, my opinion of Netflix is based solely on my own positive experiences, and you bring up some very valid points, Toby. I'm a bit surprised because the reason I went with Netflix over Blockbuster initially was that I heard they had a larger catalog. That said, what impressed me most about the company was how they handled the last shipping outage in March. Direct admission of a mistake on their part, and monetary reimbursement for the downtime. http://consumerist.com/372385/netflix-gives-good-apology-to-customers-for-mondays-delays Just from reading the comments underneath that post, I got the sense that this company strives for excellent service and truly values its customers. That's why they have my business, and it makes me more willing to overlook any hiccups as they transition to broadband delivery. OK, I'll stop shilling now http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. I certainly hope not. Been a happy customer for a year now. The Wire: Season 5 came out on DVD on Tuesday, and the good people at Netflix shipped me the first disc on Monday so that I would have it, in hand, on Tuesday. The little things like that go a long way.
  6. There's never been a better thread for this clip...here's to you, MJS!
  7. The thing that bothers me the most is the "OMG NO BUNT HITZ!!!1!" thing. Does Tom even realize that the hitters receive coded messages, or "signs", from the 3rd base coach? I'm sure that if Dale Sveum told Rickie to bunt, he would bunt.

  9. I like going to Miller Park (a.k.a. "The Keg"). I did quite a few kegstands as an undergraduate at UW-Madison. Born in 1981.
  10. A little surprised that he was able to hold the gun steady after 25 cups of coffee.
  11. Isn't this one a matter of opinion?
  12. In a way, the Brewers are not alone... The Angels (best record in AL) just swept a 3-game series with the Red Sox (who now hold only a 1-game edge in the Wild Card over the Yankees/Twins), in Boston. Now obviously, Boston has had just a bit more to cheer about in recent years than Milwaukee has. Still, it made me feel good to see that we aren't the only team who's hit a rough patch and played poorly at home against the best team in their league.
  13. Nor is it OK to give away a strike by faking a bunt and not having the sense to pull the bat back when it's not a strike. Hart should be bunting approximately never, and giving the pitcher an 0-1 count is just absurd.
  14. Pardon my ignorance, but is there any way to tell just from looking at someone that they have Asberger's? I had to look it up just to remember what exactly it was.
  15. I swear, if there was an "unforced errors" stat in baseball like there is in tennis, the Brewers would lead the league. Stupid, stupid, stupid walks. For God's sake, just throw strikes and if Mike Fontenot beats you, so be it. Edit: What I mean to say is, a stat that encompasses things other than the usual "error" - such as walking batters that aren't power threats and running into outs (Hall)
  16. I really, really, really hope they don't use Catwoman in one of these films. What a sucky villain, and "played out" to boot.
  17. Branyan's defense seems to come and go. He had a rough day today, but on Friday when C.C. was pitching, it seemed like there were about 10 ground balls to 3B and Russell was making very clean picks with patient, accurate throws to first.
  18. I wear my sunglasses at night so I can, so I can watch you weave, then breathe your storylines. And I wear my sunglasses at night so I can, so I can keep track of the visions in my eyes. While she's deceiving me it cuts my security. Has she got control of me? I turn to her and say: "Don't switch the blade on the guy in shades, oh no. Don't masquerade with the guy in shades, oh no. I can't believe it! 'Cause you got it made with the guy in shades, oh no."
  19. I'll be sure to remember that when I'm watching Game 7 of the World Series on TV instead of in the Loge Bleachers. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Doug Melvin's press conference announcement that "we're going for it" reminded me of this clip from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia". The way I see it, Frank Reynolds = Melvin. The girls = the playoffs. Melvin is going to "try the move". We'll see if it works. GO FOR IT Edit: Also, notice how disgusted JJ Hardy (Mac) is with "The Move"....ha!
  21. I can relate to the plight of the poor college student (I recently returned to school full-time to pursue a Master's and currently living off loans), but I think the Brewers have done more than most teams to keep their tickets affordable. The last 3 years, my friends and I have purchased the 20-pack because of the guaranteed playoff tickets that come along with it. The $240 cost this year (field bleacher level) is probably only a little more than what I would have spent on tickets anyway during the course of the regular season. To me, that's well worth the chance to go to every game of the playoffs, without having to participate in some dumb ticket lottery and getting screwed over. Plus, now that you can re-sell your season tickets through Stubhub it's a lot easier to get rid of the ones I don't use. I go to school in Chicago, and I'm doing an internship in the Pac Northwest right now. Going to Sox and Mariners games really emphasizes how lucky we are as Brewers fans. Even the cheap seats were way more than I thought they would be, since I'm accustomed to $12-$15 bleacher and terrace level.
  22. Are we really arguing about the athleticism of white players? Cripes, they made a Hollywood movie about it. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/6305929718.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
  23. The problem is that even thought Fielder for CC seems reasonable to us BF.netters (and even I'm not totally convinced it's a good idea), if it happened there would be an army of Brewers fans marching toward Miller Park with torches and pitchforks.
  24. Blindcheck - I think the pitcher 4 days out is always listed as "TBD". When I was looking at probable pitchers the other day (the morning after Sheets pitched), it listed them as Bush, Suppan, McClung, Parra, and TBD...obviously, there's nothing wrong with Sheets, so I think the TBD thing is just standard practice.
  25. You know something, I didn't even look at the defensive rankings, but you're absolutely right Toby. Grudz is #2 in range factor and zone rating for all of MLB second basemen, while Ray-Ray is dead last in both. I was mainly intrigued by the OBP and the fact that (per Stark) Durham could be had cheaply. But I suppose the same could be said for Grudz. Edit: clarity
