  1. But why do they race (the sausages)?
  2. Ultimate Rickroll And yes, that is Stacy Ferguson, or "Fergie" of Black Eyed Peas fame.
  3. This is the best suggestion so far, in my opinion. The over-use of this song in "The Brothers Solomon" was an extremely funny component of an otherwise OK movie.
  4. All of you grammar-heads remember that there is a "What's Bugging You?" thread, right? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Unless, of course, you agree with me that such petty concerns are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else. If that's the case, carry on.
  5. The thing is, it wasn't a do-or-die game for the Americans. I'm sure that if they were facing elimination, Braun would have started in LF and McCann would have started at C. Davey probably set the lineup differently based on winning the first game vs. Canada. I do agree that the SS stituation is pretty stupid, though. There should be a baseball reason for making the substitution.
  6. I really want the Batting Stance Guy on mlb network to end. Maybe not the BSG to which you refer, but seriously this guy's got to go away. When I saw the acronym, the first thing I thought was, "Badger State Games?" BSG, not to be confused with the GSB (Grilled Stuffed Burrito), possibly the best fast food item in existence.
  7. Honestly, I'm not sure how excited I am about an outdoor game in Madison. Part of what made the Lambeau experience so great was the tailgating (we rolled like 20 deep in the parking lot with a wide array of food & drink - a lot like a Brewers game), and the fact that you could buy beer during the game was also a big plus. This game will mean crowded bars like Luckys or Big 10 Pub, which will be even worse than usual because everyone's going to try and cram indoors rather than freeze in the beer garden. And then standing for 3 hours on concrete or sitting on metal benches in subzero temps, with no "antifreeze" to consume. It will be neat to see how they setup the ice and all that, but I might get bored really quick.
  8. I've been impressed by Spike on occasion.? His "Comedy for Stoners" sketches are always good. Honestly, if Lorne Michaels was insistent on using one of his pets as the next host of Late Night, I would have gone with Seth Meyers.? He already does a "monologue" of sorts every week on Weekend Update, and as head writer on SNL he has experience writing sketches too.? I could definitely see him hosting one of these shows some day.
  9. It's a Playstation-only release, unfortunately. I may pick it up for PS2, if it has a lot of the new features. Anyone who could advise about this, I'd greatly appreciate it.
  10. Considering that the 2 times Kendall has been the leadoff hitter were also days that Weeks wasn't playing, I wouldn't read anything into it. You have to hope that a healthy Weeks gives you around 140 games (I realize he hasn't done that yet in his career, through combinations of injuries or cold streaks). Assuming that finally comes to fruition, I'm OK with having Kendall as a leadoff option for the other 20 or so games.
  11. The adoption of Powerpoint by UW lecturers is directly correlated to the number of Herald crosswords that I was able to complete during my 4 years. Oh, Rocky the Herald Raccoon, your zany quips sure do break up the malaise of Marketing 300.
  12. They could even try to randomly assign who gets first dibs on the Opening Day seats....a sort of "virtual waiting room", as it were. Dare to dream!
  13. World's Best Name for a Website, by the way.
  14. It depends, I suppose. I'm a renter (never been a home-owner) and I'm able to pay rent to my building's management company online using a credit card. Then again, I've also rented from companies that only accepted checks. No clue how mortgage companies handle that stuff. But there's always the ability to get cash advances from your credit card company....I get junk mail from AmEx constantly, imploring me to do so....and it's a pretty sizable amount that they're willing to extend me for some godforsaken reason. I was just trying to point out how the media is sensationalizing this whole ordeal.
  15. "I'm down to the last 13 bucks in my wallet!" Yeah, that and the credit cards with $50,000 limits. Those aren't frozen (or shouldn't be, at least). Should be enough to buy groceries and even make a mortgage payment, assuming that your house is not made of solid gold like Chester J. Lampwick.
  16. Good call, I forgot about Stein. His hatred of all things Cubs knows no bounds.
  17. I'll go with: FTJ Homer temke because it seems like they are actually funny in real life, and struggle to censor their own R-rated sarcasm and irreverence on this board as much as I do.
  18. I should probably pay more attention to improv. However, I will say that nothing disappointed me more than when Comedysportz Madison started doing shows at the Pizza Hut on State St. You'd go there planning to watch a game on the big screen TV and gorge on that wonderful buffet and WAM!...denied. It was the cause of many clenched fists and scowls among my friends in college.
  19. If a radar gun legitimately clocks him in the low-90's, I wouldn't have a problem signing him to 1 year at the league minimum.
  20. The name made me instantly think of Telly Savalas, which made me think of how great it would be if the Brewers' sideline reporter was just a guy in a bald cap doing Savalas impressions. "Prince Fielder....who loves ya, baby?" I would SO tune in just for that.
  21. I guess all I can say in response is that the point I made is the same regardless of what word is highlighted in bold. You are correct, the many different random & confounding & confusing aspects of life are what make it hard to say that Player X will hit Y #of home runs and steal Z bases. That level of uncertainty is why the projection models were developed in the first place. The computer runs a simulation thousands and thousands of times. Sometimes Bill Hall hits .380. Sometimes he misses 100 games after getting arrested for mopery (subsequently acquitted and returning for the tail end of the pennant chase). The projection that is published is the average of all of those thousands of simulations. Nobody is pretending that the projection is gospel (or they shouldn't be, at least). It's just a "best guess" - which is why I think it's weird that so many people get bent out of shape about them. My friends would be the first to tell you that I have a lot of theories about baseball that most stat-heads would consider inane - that hitting coaches do matter, that clubhouse morale does count for something, and that grit does have (marginal) value. I completely agree with you that a guy using a different grip, or a different arm slot, could make the projections look silly by comparison. But to completely dismiss the predictive qualities of data analysis really irks me.
  22. You realize that the science of statistics = the study of the interaction of variables, right? Head asplode.
  23. I would LOVE to have a talk with your grandpa. That sounds like an incredible story. iHARTbrewCREW, your comment reminded me of the final episode of HBO's "Band of Brothers" (adapted from the book by Wisconsin's own Stephen E. Ambrose). According to the Wikipedia article, there's some dispute over who was the first unit to the Eagle's Nest...historians credit the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division, but the real-life Major Winters insists that it was Easy Company. It would be interesting to hear your grandpa's side of the story. Do you know which unit he served with?
  24. Probably because Shawne Merriman tested positive and was somehow still elected to the Pro Bowl in the same year. Can you imagine the same scenario playing out in MLB?
