  1. Invader, I think I know what you're talking about - my best guess. I believe the organ piece you're referring to is a little portion of "Inna Godda Da Vida" that they play sometimes when there's a lull in the action (e.g. when a pitch is fouled off into the stands and the pitcher takes 10-15 seconds to walk around the mound, use the rosin bag, etc.) Am I right?
  2. There's gotta be another Chris Saenz out there somewhere...
  3. Jason Kendall - perhaps the reason that your SLG sucks is that you don't grip the bat tightly until 0.0000001 seconds before you have to swing. Stop doing that. Ned Yost - switch to decaf.
  4. I can't even fathom why this would be considered. They should share US Cellular with the Sox, end of story. Just need to work out the schedule so that they're never in town at the same time. Shouldn't be too difficult, what with these newfangled computers and such. I'm sure there would be some complaints about the field being torn up from having 162 games played on it instead of 81. But if that's the case, just make the Cubs pay for new sod and whatever else is needed to keep the field in tip-top shape. It's their fault we have to deal with this anyway.
  5. I saw this last week, and was waiting for a LaRussa thread to share it: LaRussa (fake) MySpace page
  6. Yeah, I have to say that I fail to see why this gets on anyone's nerves as well. Nor do I understand why booing the pickoff move somehow equates to my level of baseball intelligence. Just because I understand the strategic purpose behind a certain play, doesn't mean I shouldn't voice my displeasure when it annoys me. After 3 consecutive throws to first, I'd generally prefer that the pitcher grow a pair. This is, in part, how you end up with 9 innings that last for 4 hours as we did on Sunday. Plus, the boo is generally delivered in a silky baritone that is quite easy on the ears. What I wouldn't give to hear the late Bing Crosby heartily boo the opposing pitcher for checking on the runner. I do agree with FTJ that a high-pitched shriek is a faux pas.
  7. Wes...to put it bluntly, go to Hell-ms. And take your stupid 7th grade bowl cut with you. And take a shower. And lose some weight.
  8. 2 quick thoughts: 1) Turnbow is a big golfer? I wonder if his slice is as dramatic as his off-speed pitch. I shudder to think of his "fairways hit" percentage. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif 2) I never understood why players on the visiting team would go to the mall...that seems like an ultra-lame thing to do. The mall? Seriously? I haven't wanted to go to the mall without an expressed purpose since I was a junior in high school. Especially if they're staying in a hotel downtown...why would you ride all they way out to Mayfair if you're Griffey or Dunn? I guess I could understand Grand Avenue if they had a couple hours to kill, but still.
  9. Reminds me of that Adam Sandler sketch..."those are just pencil shavings in a bag!"
  10. I just wish we would have scheduled better non-conference opponents....if we're on the bubble at the end of the season, it could cost us a tournament bid. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. What's bugging me today is that every time I watch a baseball game on FOX or FSN, they have to play that crappy, ear-splitting guitar solo every time they go in & out of a commercial. The song sucks, it's sucked for 10 years, and it's just freaking annoying.

  13. Pretty generous with a B for Yost too....do you teach grad school classes? I could use the help! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

  15. Unfortunately, that's not an option due to board rules. What I find useful is to take a piece of 8.5x11 paper and a Sharpie marker, and just write all the swear words out, first printing them and then repeating in cursive. Works wonders.
  16. He's not going to want to pitch in Milwaukee again? That makes two of us.
  17. Why the hell is Gagne even holding a baseball right now? YOST!!!!!!
  18. It seems like at least once a week, Lil' Stein opens up his yapper and undermines Cashman, Girardi, the players...it's great! I was a little too young to fully appreciate the battles between his dad and Billy Martin back in the 1980's. As Georgie's health had been deteriorating recently, the constant grandstanding and vitriol was sorely missed. Nice to see that Hank is picking up the slack: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3356490 "I want [Joba Chamberlain] as a starter and so does everyone else, including him, and that is what we are working toward and we need him there now," Steinbrenner told The New York Times. "There is no question about it, you don't have a guy with a 100-mile-per-hour fastball and keep him as a setup guy. You just don't do that. You have to be an idiot to do that." Yankees general manager Brian Cashman apparently disagrees. "Joba's staying in the bullpen right now," Cashman told Newsday on Monday. "That's where we're at. [Putting him in the rotation is] not something that's going to happen here early on, and [Hank] knows that. We've talked about it. I don't know what set him off." "The mistake was already made last year switching him to the bullpen out of panic or whatever," Steinbrenner told The Times. "I had no say in it last year and I wouldn't have allowed it. That was done last year, so now we have to catch up. It has to be done on a schedule so we don't rush him." I also liked this gem: "[Mussina] just needs to learn how to pitch like [45-year-old Phillies pitcher] Jamie Moyer," Steinbrenner said, according to The Times. "Moyer is known as a crafty pitcher who doesn't have an overpowering fastball."
  19. We know that Terry Francona would have held back Papelbon. Let's look at a similar situation from 2007, almost 1 year ago to the day: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070421&content_id=1921707&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos Francona then quickly acknowledged that after saving the last two games in Toronto this week, the fireballing Papelbon was not available for Friday's opener with the Yankees. "It's important to close a game," Francona said. "The way we won -- not having Pap available or not wanting to Pap to be available -- is good for our staff, good for our team. To win a game like that against that team is very helpful. It'll help down the road."

  21. We're that much closer to "Manager Ted Simmons".
  22. Ned Yost DO NOT WANT
  23. And that includes a $20 concession voucher, too, so it's like you're only paying $55 for the seat (I'm one of those people that will probably drop $20 on concessions anyway if I'm at the ballpark).
  24. The Sun-Times has an article today about the racist shirt: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/901817,CST-SPT-gordo18.article "I don't know what the creator of the shirt meant this to be, but they should make it right,'' Fukudome said through his interpreter after being shown one of the shirts Thursday. ''Maybe the creator created it because he thought it was funny, or maybe he made it to condescend the race. I don't know.'' Popular sports blog We Are The Postmen also picked up on it: http://www.wearethepostmen.com/2008/04/18/with-racist-apparel-cubs-fans-actually-are-obnoxious/
  25. Is Rivera to blame for this? I noticed while following the game on MLB.com Gameday that 11 of the first 12 pitches were fastballs. Is this because of what the catcher was calling or was Gagne shaking him off? I know that he previously said that he "learned his lesson" about shaking off Kendall, but is there a trust issue with Mike?
