  1. Someone needs to start up a Thornburg thread for next year's deadline, because he if replicates his success for another year he will require a Ken Giles/Andrew Miller haul in return.
  2. He's 1 more failed drug test away from a lifetime ban. Yes he's good lately, but that has to play in a little bit I'm pretty sure guys on the 40 man roster are NOT tested for recreational drugs, which is what got Jeffress in trouble in the minors. I fully believe that he's gotten his act together anyways.
  3. Are you aware of anything (that you can divulge) going on with JJ in regards to the deadline?
  4. I just can't believe you would want a guy with people skills problems as a catcher for your team I don't know. Yadi Molina has had a nice career, and he seems like a thin-skinned jerk.
  5. Thanks, and I will definitely take your word for it as you would know for sure.
  6. Trade deadline is 3pm CST. So 2 hours from now.
  7. I might be confused, but didn't the Yankees get Clint Frazier for Miller? Not Zimmer?
  8. It sounds like the Braves wanted to do with us what they did with Kemp, but those are very different circumstances. Braun is much more valuable than Kemp, and I don't think we would have taken back the bad contract (and even worse person) they sent to SD who was then DFA'd. We don't want to just let Braun go for nothing because we have substantial payroll flexibility as it stands right now through the end of his deal where we would eat significant dollars if we got back quality players in return. Basically 100% the opposite of what the Braves did to the D-Backs (taking on a bad contract PLUS a quality prospect so AZ could dump salary).
  9. I think they got their lefty with Miller, even if he slots in as the closer. They might do that for Jeffress or Thornburg as a 7th/8th inning guy.
  10. That would be fine with me. I think most of the reactions to the initial Cleveland thread (including mine) were because we wanted to compare Lucroy's market to the relief pitching market. With the blueprint laid out by the Royals the last two years, relievers are not a hot commodity and the demand for Lucroy just wasn't as strong. Blows my mind that Andrew Miller could fetch Frazier & Sheffield, or a 39 year old Fernando Rodney could get Paddack. But both of those guys have long histories of being effective - much longer track records than our guys.
  11. To play devil's advocate, for all we know Stearns did give Lucroy's camp notice that he was entertaining an offer from the Indians and they indicated he would be open to it. I believe McCalvy had tweeted after the deal that the team had no reason to believe the NTC would be an issue. I find it hard to believe that things progressed this far without some sort of understanding that he would be cool with this. Which means that either Lucroy's camp misled Stearns, or he did not even engage Lucroy in a discussion on this. Like Robert says, this is the second situation (Davies) where Stearns could be perceived as being out of touch with his locker room.
  12. I've seen this done before I think by the Cardinals under LaRussa. He definitely could not come back if he were switched out of the game. In this case I'm assuming a new pitcher came in (in place of the LF) and Wood went to LF, and then went back to the mound when a new LF took the place of the other pitcher. Incredibly rare. What if this were done in a 2-0 game in the 9th inning? The other pitcher would be credited with a Hold, so could the starter (who ends up finishing the game) be credited with both a Win and a Save?
  13. Candidates would be incredibly limited if it's a contract issue as I believe just Braun and Garza have deals that may extend beyond 2017 (which is incredible). And most of our guys don't have an injury history other than Braun. So my money is definitely on Braun.
  14. I've gone through a range of emotions on this deal over the past 14 hours. I suspected right away that Lucroy may demand his option be done away with to get him to the market sooner, and regrettably it looks like my instinct was correct. But in the end, I can't blame him at all. I would have done the exact same thing in that position, even if it made me look like a hypocrite after all the "contender" talk.
  15. I hope the old saying "deadlines spur action" holds true, because with roughly 27 hours left before the finish line the only deal made thus far involved Aaron Hill.
  16. [sarcasm]Oh thank God. Here I thought we weren't getting any pitching back. Plus he's almost 26 and on the 40 man so we can appease the guys who wanted MLB ready talent.[/sarcasm]
  17. Per Heyman the other two players going to NY are minor league pitchers.
  18. I'm having a really hard time reconciling what we got for Lucroy against what the Yankees got for Chapman and Miller.
  19. It's two different players at two different positions, but it's hard to ignore the large gap in talent the the Indians gave for Miller in comparison to Lucroy. It's clear this market is placing an emphasis on shortening games in the postseason with elite bullpen arms, but shocked that an everyday all star catcher isn't on par.
  20. Frazier, Sheffield plus per Olney.
  21. Total speculation, but maybe the 4h player is contingent. Perhaps if Lucroy waives the NTC with no strings, we get Sheffield. If Lucroy pulls a stunt and will only waive it if they void his option for 2017, deal stands as is.
  22. The Trea Turner rule prohibits recent draft picks from being traded as PTBNL's, if that's what you're getting at. Outside of Rosenthal mentioning the 4th prospect, has it been confirmed by anyone else? Other than HighHeat saying his source said it wasn't a Top 30 Cleveland prospect?
  23. One year from now, I don't think they could even get Meija for half a year of Lucroy and no comp pick.
  24. Rosenthal saying deal may hinge on "financial inducement" to waive NTC. This ain't over yet.
