  1. Are there slots for picks past the 1st round?
  2. I have heard nothing but good things about the Black Market Organ Donor Program. In the end what does it matter if you were a "willing" or "unwilling" donor. On a side note, if you do a Covance study does it affect your medical insurance? I am afraid to do one and then have my insurance be messed up or void because I was selling my body to science.
  3. TLB, of all the sports we are discussing, baseball/softball is the least physically demanding. In terms of making calls, baseball/softball is pretty difficult, but not physically.
  4. Forgot about that. Yeah it is Hockey hands down. The violence and speed of the game, plus a small little puck screaming around the ice, and you have to do it on skates.
  5. One of my friends has harped to me that print, as a medium, is dead. I am not willing to take it that far yet, but with the introduction of the wireless reading devices at amazon and other places it seems that it will not be long before newspapers, books, magazines, etc will all be electronic. At least the trees will be happy...
  6. I have officiated high school football and basketball. Basketball is significantly harder for a few reasons. You are so close to the action that everyone in the stands sees you, can yell directly at you, and any call can be very critical. You control the flow of the game as a basketball official. In high school with 2 man crews there are places on the floor that are hard to cover. Physically it can be difficult because there is a ton of running. Football officials are on an island, there are a couple of them to divy up the field and responsibilities, and you can meet after the call and figure out what is going on. I still think it would be very hard to call a consistent game behind the plate. Every call in essence is a judgement call.
  7. It was Dean Keaton.
  8. I am spreading around the love. I got about 1500 dollars back total. Finish off the Best Buy Credit Card Finish off another credit card Pay Rent Got a gym membership (It makes me mad that as an employee of the University, that I do not get free gym access on campus) Took the girl out to a real expensive meal Save the rest for law school
  9. The sport of kings....
  10. The question is how informed and valid can your opinion be if you do not watch or follow a sport that "sucks"? This deal is risky for the Suns, but it will take playing out the rest of the year to evaluate.
  11. It makes me laugh when someone starts a post "I do not watch that much NBA..." then gives an opinion about a player or situation. If you do not watch then you are not very interested. What would draw you into an NBA thread? I watched the Suns last night and they lost by 2 in double overtime to the Hornets. Would Shaq have made a diffrence? I don't know, the game was played at a pretty break neck speed with CP3 and Nash going at it all night. Brian Skinner (former Buck) played 14 minutes. He scored no points and grabbed 1 rebound. If Shaq plays the same amount of minutes I think he would have been way more productive. I know this was a risky trade for the Suns but I do not think it was utterly foolish. If they win the title they got all they needed out of the trade. If not, you have to ask the question, "Would the Suns have won the championship if Marion was still there?" Banks has the chance to be a good player, but how was he going to crack the starting lineup in front of two very good players? For Phoenix, unloading him is nothing. This was a great trade for the Heat. They dump the massive contract of Shaq. If things play out they should get a top half lottery pick and now they have the inside track to Marion.
  12. This is a pretty big risk for the Suns, but I think it will work out. Shaq plays for the playoffs, if he can be healthy enough when the playoffs come around the Suns will benefit from this. Will they make the finals? Who knows. But Shaq can still do so much especially when he is not the focal point. He still draws double teams (taking away guys to guard Amare, Nash and the 3 point shooters they have on the team) he will guard big men (Yao, Duncan) and he can rebound. The Suns had to do something after the Gasol trade, there were rumors of Shaq going to the Mavericks and the Suns jumped ahead of the Mavs and got Shaq. Gasol was awesome last night and the Lakers look very tough now. If they get Bynum back this year (there has been speculation regarding how bad his injury is, and if they should rush him back) it looks like they have a great shot at the finals. This makes me think that the Mavs are going to go after JKidd real hard now. Devin Harris may be on the move...
  13. Woman: Oh. How do you do? King Arthur: How do you do, good lady? I am Arthur, King of the Britons. Whose castle is that? Woman: King of the who? King Arthur: King of the Britons. Woman: Who are the Britons? King Arthur: Well, we all are. We are all Britons. And I am your king. Woman: I didn't know we had a king. I thought we were an autonomous collective. Dennis: You'rw foolin' yourself! We're living in a dictatorship. A self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working class... Woman: Oh, there you go bringing class into it again. Dennis: Well, that's what it's all about! If only people would... King Arthur: Please, please, good people, I am in haste. Who lives in that castle? Woman: No one lives there. King Arthur: Then who is your lord? Woman: We don't have a lord. Dennis: I told you, we're an anarco-sydicalist commune. We take it in turns to be a sort of executive officer for the week... King Arthur: Yes... Dennis: ...but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting... King Arthur: Yes I see... Dennis: ...by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs... King Arthur: Be quiet! Dennis: ...but by a two thirds majority in the case of... King Arthur: Be quiet! I order you to be quiet! Woman: Order, eh? Who does he think he is?
  14. I think that people are just "coming back" to the Brewers this year after a few marginally successful years. Packer loyalty runs very deep as the Pack have been around since the 20's. I think that if the Brewers play well all year next year and make the world series people would tune in over the Packers. I really believe that. But this is a football country, and a Packers state, so some people will watch the Packers no matter what.
  15. Thanks for the suggestions. I picked up "Manhunt" last night and I am really enjoying it, but there are a bunch of great suggestions. I have read a fair share (because of my History degree) but I think after I want to go a little farther back in time. Maybe to the Romans.
  16. Hawing, I know the building well, being a History/Poli Sci grad I spent many hours lost in the stacks. This is huge, I did not think I could check stuff out from you guys without having to pay. I can use MadCat again, which make me happy. ( I used it for 4 years working at a library on campus) I may stop by after work and pick some stuff up. I walk by the place 4 times a day. \ FTJ- I am going to pick up Manhunt, it looks great.
  17. EDIT#2: -- I keep thinking of more dudes -- Bob Poser -- recently passed away -- but both him and his (Chub?) brother played at the UW -- After retiring he opened the Poser Clinic in Columbus, and his son/nephew still operate the clinic. His nephew is our family doctor. He has a display in his office to his baseball prowess. Poser though was fascinating as he was a Dr. when he pitcher (I think). Sort of like Doc Medich. I am from Columbus and Bob Poser played in the Majors. It was a cup of coffee, but still as famous as our little city gets. http://www.baseball-reference.com/p/poserbo01.shtml
  18. So I am usually a big reader but for the past two months I have not been reading anything outside of the internet and magazines. I am looking for some new stuff to read to get out of my reading rut. Tonight I am going to the library and finding something I like. I had been reading a ton of Stephen King lately but I guess I am looking to branch out. I would be interested in most genre's but I am looking for some Non-Fiction, or historical Non-Fiction/Fiction. So does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
  19. ALDS: Boston in 4 NY in 5 NLDS: Cubs in 3 Philly in 5 CS: NY in 6 Cubs in 6 WS: NY in 6 When I look at the teams in the NL I think that Chicago is the most complete, and since the Universe hates me, they will go to the World Series and for the next month all I am going to hear about is the Cubs. Ugh. In the AL, a couple of weeks ago I would have picked the Angels to win it all but I am starting to think they will not get out of the first series. The series between the Indians and Yankees will be really fun to watch. I think that all three teams Boston, NY, and Cleveland all have a good shot of making it to the World Series.
  20. So he has that going for him. Honestly, God owes you 6 burgers for 5 dollars.
  21. TLB, A guy at Riley's told me to watch out for green bottled beer because it tends to get skunky fast. He explained to me why. When you go to college not everything you learn is in the classroom, you also learn some of life's most important lessons. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif
  22. There is a difference, I believe. I checked the net and found this. Green bottles are a marketing gimmick designed to convey a "premium" image, but they are bad for beer flavor. Unlike their brown brothers, green bottles can't stop the light-induced reaction that produces skunky aroma and flavor in beer. The effect is so common that many consumers now accept it and may even complain when it is not present. Those who prefer to avoid it should buy from closed case boxes that have never been exposed to light or stick to draft products. http://www.allaboutbeer.com/features/packside.html
  23. In my senior year of high school. I was always late to my high school (it didn't matter) and I had gym first thing in the morning with our football coach. I rolled into gym about 45 minutes late to see everyone just standing by a TV that had been set up. I walked over and saw that no one was talking. It was so strange. Another thing I remember was that night going to the gas station to fill up because everyone was saying that there would be an extreme gas shortage.
